This book was released on 1967 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power spectral techniques of generalized harmonic analysis were applied to determine the phase and amplitude of the transfer function between the vertical component of turbulence and the resultant pitch rate of a small swept wing jet fighter. The power spectrum analysis was based on actual flight test data. In addition, the amplitude and phase of the aircraft's transfer function are determined theoretically by two different methods and compared with the results of the power spectrum analysis. It was established that the power spectrum method, as applied to random turbulence, can be used to determine an aircraft's response to this random input on a continuous basis and that power spectrum techniques have considerable potential value in the study of aircraft gust loading. This book was released on 1960 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The joint tower-airplane experiment was designed to provide concurrent turbulence data for one flight level (at or near tower height) and at the same time to supplement these data with airplane measurements above, and tower measurements below, the tower height. Three tower locations were incorporated in this experiment in an attempt to determine the effects of diffn be simply related to turbulence measured at a fixed point as a function of time, (2) Obtain data for examining low level temporal and spatial homogeneity, (3) Investigate the influence of terrain variations on the turbulence power spectral densitrent topographical conditions on the turbulence spectrum. The 4 principal objectives were: (1) Obtain data to test the hypothesis of G.I. Taylor (1937) that turbulence encountered along a path in space aligned with the mean wind can be simply related to turbulence measured at a fixed point as a function of time, (2) Obtain data for examining low level temporal and spatial homogeneity, (3) Investigate the influence of terrain variations on the turbulence power spectral densities, and (4) Investigate the variation of turbulence characteristics with height above ground. Book Synopsis An Exposition on Aircraft Response to Atmospheric Turbulence Using Power Spectral Density Analysis Techniques by : Elijah William Turner
Download or read book An Exposition on Aircraft Response to Atmospheric Turbulence Using Power Spectral Density Analysis Techniques written by Elijah William Turner and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traditional power spectral density design procedure is reviewed. The evolution of modeling atmospheric turbulence is traced from the discrete gust to the present continuous representation. The modeling of an aircraft structure as a lumped parameter linear system excited by oscillatory air forces is outlined, and solutions to the resulting equations of motion are indicated. Expressions for the number of exceedances of specified load levels are presented and compared for stationary Gaussian turbulence and for stationary Gaussian patch turbulence. The motivation for modeling atmospheric turbulence as a nonstationary process is addressed, and several models for nonstationary turbulence are reviewed.

Book Synopsis Atmospheric Turbulence Simulation Techniques with Application to Flight Analysis by : Show-Tien Wang
Download or read book Atmospheric Turbulence Simulation Techniques with Application to Flight Analysis written by Show-Tien Wang and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical modeling of atmospheric turbulence is discussed. The statistical properties of atmospheric turbulence, in particular the probability distribution, the spectra, and the coherence are reviewed. Different atmospheric turbulence simulation models are investigated, and appropriate statistical analyses are carried out to verify their validity. The models for simulation are incorporated into a computer model of aircraft flight dynamics. Statistical results of computer simulated landings for an aircraft having characteristics of a DC-8 are reported for the different turbulence simulation techniques. The significance of various degrees of sophistication in the turbulence simulation techniques on the landing performance of the aircraft is discussed.
