Book Synopsis Brother Rook and I by : Brother Rook
Download or read book Brother Rook and I written by Brother Rook and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one man's journey through rebirth, self discovery, love, pain and growth. It is nothing profound, however it is simple poetry written mostly in verse utilizing play on words and conveying messages and lessons learned. My friends that have seen bits and pieces of this book have smiled, laughed and some have been moved. My favorite description that I've heard most often is "cute." This book is written mostly about me, and subjects and people that have touched and tested me. I believe I'm an interesting person and that my life has been also. This book has been compiled over the years and people have always requested copies of individual pieces. I have been prompted by many to publish my work so I thought others may enjoy seeing my poetry through my eyes also. I believe this book is insightful and that "old school" would describe it as "deep." This book will not be a best seller however it most certainly will be an enjoyable experience. Please come meet Brother Rook and I and see for yourself, Poetry through my Eyes. I was born "Edward Carl Colding" to the birth parents Father, Robert L. Colding, originally from Tampa Florida and Mother, Verna (Catanch) Colding originally from Ahoskie North Carolina. I was born and raised in the concrete jungle of West Philadelphia. I was always your average young boy that was exposed to more drama than I could comprehend very similar to the fictional character "Preach" in the movie Cooley High. I worked hard and finally freed myself of my many complexes and I developed an alter ego that I call "Brother Rook." In three years in and out of the classrooms of Overbrook Senior High School I moved from feeling unworthy and being a young boy to making a place for myself, proving I belong and in the process becoming an old man practically overnight. I erased my square dull points by becoming a well rounded 20 year veteran of The United States Air Force. I dealt with many different types of people and traveled half way around the world which sharpened my senses and gave me a passion for life. -- Once in grade school in the auditorium I was assigned to recite the poem "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. Like many kids I froze even though I knew that poem like the back of my hand. I'll never forget that day or that poem. From that day to this; I have loved to express myself in poetry and I enjoy an audience, because "poems are written, by fools like "me," but only GOD can make a Tree."

Download or read book Loonyology written by Charles Bronson and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2011-11-09 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifer Charlie Bronson's reputation precedes him - ‘Britain's most violent prisoner’ - or does it? Do we really know the true Charlie, or are our impressions the result of media hype? Well, what is in no doubt is that Loonyology is 200% Bronson and will transport the reader on the dizziest no-holds-barred roller-coaster ride of their lives, from suspense and shock to laughter and tears, and from Bronson the ‘Solitary King’ to Bronson the Philosopher, the Poet, the Artist, the Author, the Joker, the Walking Scar and the Freedom Fighter. Now 55 years old, and having spent most of his last 34 years as a maximum security ‘Bronco Zoo’ inmate, he’s a much wiser man as he looks back on his crazy journey of unpredictable behaviour, his ever-alert mind darting from reminiscences of his teenage years to memories of fellow-cons, the screws, the cranks, letters and news reports, prison life and procedures, and the overall madness (‘loonyology’) of the legal and penal systems, peppering his stories with diary entries, true gems of information, sound advice and hilarious one-liners. Together with his many supporters and with the aid of a top lawyer, Charlie is campaigning for the parole board to finally allow him his freedom, but begging is not his style: he calls a spade a spade and is determined to win with dignity, fighting with his pen and his brain to achieve his aim of a life outside ‘the cage’. In his words: “I chose to be a villain. I’m not proud of it, nor am I ashamed of it. I have paid my debt to society and it’s time to go home.”
Book Synopsis For the Love of Long Shots: A Memoir on Democracy by : Shawn Casey O'Brien
Download or read book For the Love of Long Shots: A Memoir on Democracy written by Shawn Casey O'Brien and published by Pumpkin Seed Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would happen if 40 million disabled citizens organized their vote and took power in America? Shawn Casey O'Brien's literary memoir For The Love Of Long Shots looks at the off-beat, humane possibilities as a rag tag group of disabled rebels lay the groundwork for just such a bloodless, democratic revolution. From motivating millions to register and vote, to ending voter suppression and wholeheartedly encouraging the electorate to "lie to the polls" and then simply vote their conscience, For The Love Of Long Shots takes an irreverent, if not realistic, look at what ails American democracy today and how best to save it-one disabled vote at a time.
