Book Synopsis Possible Measurement Errors in Calibrated AVHRR Data by : Robert Paul D'Entremont
Download or read book Possible Measurement Errors in Calibrated AVHRR Data written by Robert Paul D'Entremont and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Visible and infrared meteorological satellite data are a primary source of global cloud observations. Such data are calibrated in order to provide its users with a method for converting from 'raw' measurements, called counts, to physically sensible measurements such as albedo or brightness temperature. This report describes the procedure for converting National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (NOAA AVHRR) raw counts to albedos and brightness temperatures. This procedure involves the use of 'calibration coefficients' that help define the relationship between the raw counts and the physical measurements they represent. Such relationships are referred to as 'look-up-tables'. In theory, calibration coefficients (and therefore look-up tables) do not change noticeably from one scanline of satellite data to the next. This makes feasible the generation of a constant look-up table that can be used over long periods of time for all data. In practice, calibration coefficients can and often do change from one scan to the next. These changes imply accuracy errors in measured brightness temperatures that are significant for some satellite data analysis algorithms; others are less severely affected. This report addresses the potential errors that can be expected when using constant look-up tables, i.e., by assuming that sensor calibration does not change from one scanline to the next.

Book Synopsis Time-Varying Image Processing and Moving Object Recognition, 4 by : V. Cappellini
Download or read book Time-Varying Image Processing and Moving Object Recognition, 4 written by V. Cappellini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-07-25 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New digital image processing and recognition methods, implementation techniques and advanced applications (television, remote sensing, biomedicine, traffic, inspection, robotics, etc.) are presented in this volume. Novel approaches (i.e. digital filters, source coding, neural networks etc.) for solving 2-D and 3-D problems are described. Many papers focus on the motion estimation and tracking recognition of moving objects. The increasingly important field of Cultural Heritage is also covered. Some papers are more theoretical or of review nature, while others contain new implementations and applications. Generally the book presents - for the above outlined area - the state of the art (theory, implementation, applications) with future trends. This book will be of interest not only to researchers, professors and students in university departments of engineering, communications, computers and automatic control, but also to engineers and managers of industries concerned with computer vision, manufacturing, automation, robotics and quality control.

Book Synopsis Optical Radiometry for Ocean Climate Measurements by :
Download or read book Optical Radiometry for Ocean Climate Measurements written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state-of-the-art of optical remote sensing applied for the generation of marine climate-quality data products, with contributions by international experts in the field. The chapters are logically grouped into six thematic parts, each introduced by a brief overview. The different parts include: i. requirements for the generation of climate data records from satellite ocean measurements and additionally basic radiometry principles addressing terminology, standards, measurement equation and uncertainties; ii. satellite visible and thermal infrared radiometry embracing instrument design, characterization and, pre- and post-launch calibration; iii. in situ visible and thermal infrared radiometry including overviews on basic principles, technology and measurements methods required to support satellite missions devoted to climate change investigations; iv. simulations as fundamental tools to support interpretation and analysis of both in situ and satellite radiometric measurements; v. strategies for in situ radiometry to satisfy mission requirements for the generation of climate data records; and finally, vi. methods for the assessment of satellite data products. Fundamentals of measurement theory are taken through to implementation of practical ground based radiometers and their application to validate satellite data used to generate climate data records. This book presents practical solutions for those involved or contemplating the validation of optical climate measurements from satellite instruments. - Exhaustive coverage of important topics - Fundamental and advanced discussions of many types of instruments - Emphasis on calibration and uncertainty analysis of results
