Wie erlebt dieser seine Umwelt, oder sich als Mensch und Individuum und wie verhält er sich den diversen Lebenssituationen (Brendtro, Steinebach, 2012, S. 18)? Die Positive Psychologie forscht als erste Wissenschaft nach den Faktoren, die den Menschen glücklich machen. Der Fokus richtet sich auf die Fragestellung, wie eine gute Lebensführung eigentlich aussieht und wie man die Zufriedenheit am Leben halten und steigern könnte (Leimon, McMahon, 2011, S. 23). In der Vergangenheit wurden Menschen, welche eine positive Lebenseinstellung vertraten und ebenso optimistisch waren, eher einfältig betrachtet und galten sogar als naiv. Die "Positive Psychologie" spricht gegen solche Vorurteile, indem sie mit zahlreichen Studien aufzeigt, dass eine positive Grundhaltung ein konstruktives Verhalten ist. Dieses bringt Wohlbefinden, Erfolg und somit Zufriedenheit mit sich (Leimon, McMahon, 2011, S. 25). Durch den ausgerichteten Blickwinkel hinsichtlich Werte, Tugend, Bedürfnisse und Stärken gelingt es ihr vernachlässigte Fragen aufgreifen und beantworten zu können (Brendtro, Steinebach, 2012, S. 20). Zusammengefasst handelt es sich also um die Erforschung zu allem, was die Lebensqualität steigert. Es geht um positive Erfahrungen, die den Menschen in seinem Leben prägen, ebenso um die positiven Charakterzüge seinerseits, aber auch die seiner Umwelt, denn diese tragen entscheidend zu einer Verbesserung der Lebensqualität bei (Leimon, McMahon, 2011, S. 25f). Einer der bekanntesten Forscher der "Positiven Psychologie" ist Martin Seligman. Er war Präsident der "American Psychological Association". Seligman entwickelte bezüglich dieses Themas viele Theorien, forschte und führte zahlreiche Studien durch. Er widmete sich dem „optimalen menschlichen Funktionierens“ (zit. in. Leimon, McMahon, 2012, S. 25).
