Book Synopsis Practical Guide to Structures, Properties and Applications of Styrenic Polymers by : Norbert Niessner
Download or read book Practical Guide to Structures, Properties and Applications of Styrenic Polymers written by Norbert Niessner and published by Smithers Rapra. This book was released on 2013-03-18 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Styrenic polymers are among the economically most important plastics. They combine benign processing with a large variety of product properties - from stiff and transparent to tough and durable. The fact that styrene can be polymerized by different reaction mechanisms (radical, ionic and metal catalyzed) makes this line of products unique in regards to the variety of its properties and applications. The primary objective of this book is to provide a detailed understanding of structure and property relationships of styrenic polymers, and their specific use in various applications. By understanding basic chemistry, supermolecular assembly of block- and graft polymers and microscopic fracture mechanisms, the reader will be able to quickly derive macroscopic behavior and hence select the most suitable polymer for a given application. The second objective of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview about unique value propositions of styrenic polymers in different industries and applications. The reader will get an in-depth understanding of why specific styrenic polymers dominate in market segments like computer and printer housings, exterior automotive parts and the food packaging industry, and what the specific customer benefits of using these polymers are. Finally, the third objective is to provide an outlook for future product and application developments. Hence it serves not only as a quick reference guide for downstream industries, but also as a practical guide for students and researchers in this field of material science.
Book Synopsis Physical Properties of Polymers by : A.A. Askadski
Download or read book Physical Properties of Polymers written by A.A. Askadski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-12-17 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New polymeric substances and materials with new, often unusual properties arise frequently. This volume presents a problem in determining the physical properties of polymers and thus makes it difficult to tackle the question of the synthesis of polymers with desired properties. The author has approached this problem in a semi-empirical manner, which like van Krevelen's empirical method is based on the principle of increment and deriving calculations from it, but in Askadskii's approach each equation for the calculation of properties is physically based, and its parameters are connected with characteristics of atoms (Van-der-Waals volume, dispersonic interaction) which compose the reoccurring unit of polymer, as well as with characteristics of energy of intermolecular interaction. Particular attention is paid to the relaxation of properties of polymers, which determine the mechanical serviceability of materials.

Book Synopsis Polymer Materials by : Jean Louis Halary
Download or read book Polymer Materials written by Jean Louis Halary and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-04-04 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced reviews for Polymer Materials "Molecular modeling of polymers ... is a subject that cannot be found in any other [book] in any appreciable detail. ... [T]he detailed chapters on specific polymer systems is a great idea." — Gregory Odegard, Michigan Technological University "The polymer community needs a text book which can connect the macroscopic mechanics with mesoscopic and molecular aspects of polymer." — Liangbin Li, University of Science and Technology of China This book takes a unique, multi-scale approach to the mechanical properties of polymers, covering both the macroscopic and molecular levels unlike any other book on the market. Based on the authors’ extensive research and writing in the field, Polymer Materials emphasizes the relationships between the chemical structure and the mechanical behavior of polymer materials, providing authoritative guidelines for assessing polymer performance under different conditions and the design of new materials. Key features of this book include: Experimental results on selected examples precede and reinforce the development of theoretical features In-depth discussions of a limited number of polymer systems instead of a brief overview of many Self-contained chapters with a summary of their key points Comprehensive problems and a solutions manual for the different parts of the book Coverage of the basics with an emphasis on polymer dynamics An indispensable resource for polymer scientists and students alike, Polymer Materials is also highly useful for material scientists, engineers, chemists, and physicists in industry and academia.
