Book Synopsis Globalisation and Teacher Education in the BRICS Countries by : Ian Menter
Download or read book Globalisation and Teacher Education in the BRICS Countries written by Ian Menter and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-29 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume critically engages with the debate on teacher education systems in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), considering the effects of contemporary globalisation processes on each differing geographic location. Written by leading researchers from the BRICS countries, chapters reveal the processes present in these countries regarding the often-problematic relationships between research, policy, and practice, as well as the extent of integration between higher education institutions and basic schools, with particular emphasis on teachers’ professional development. With a particular focus on the role of research and positioning of the school practicum, the book offers new insights into the processes of educational globalisation. It presents comparative discussions of the development of BRICS and the significance of education and preparation of teachers between the five nations, each with differing educational traditions. Ultimately, this book provides a unique picture of teacher education systems across these five countries and offers new perspectives that will enrich the work of scholars, students, and researchers in the fields of international and comparative education, education policy and politics, globalisation, and teacher education. Policymakers and teacher educators involved in globalisation studies may also benefit from the volume more broadly.

Book Synopsis Business-State Relations under PT Governments by : Stefanie Tomé Schmitt
Download or read book Business-State Relations under PT Governments written by Stefanie Tomé Schmitt and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2022-02-21 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) – Workers Party, Governments in Brazil, non-electoral and extra-parliamentary political participation grew significantly. Both Lula and Rousseff used an increasing number of mechanisms of participation, known in Portuguese as órgãos colegiados – "collegiate bodies", for democratizing political decisions. Stefanie Tomé Schmitt's book addresses the impacts of participatory policy-making on business-state relations under the New Developmentalism. Her research uncovers business participation in 125 collegiate bodies based on data collected with the peak sectoral corporatist business associations of agriculture, commerce, industry and financial services. It discloses a formalized pattern of business politics linked to the use of Corporatist Institutions, exposing a gap between Political Sociology and Political Economy approaches to interest representation in Brazil. In joining the rule configuration assessment with a process tracing of participatory policy-making in employment, innovation, and biodiversity, her investigation also reveals that engendering a more formalized pattern of business politics relied on more than choices of institutional design promoting business inclusiveness: it was contingent on business and government commitment building within mechanisms of participation and in related policy networks.

Book Synopsis Life for the Academic in the Neoliberal University by : Alpesh Maisuria
Download or read book Life for the Academic in the Neoliberal University written by Alpesh Maisuria and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life for the Academic in the Neoliberal University investigates the impact of neoliberalism on academics in today’s universities. Considering the experiences of early career researchers as well as more experienced academics, it outlines the changing nature of working life in the university precipitated by the reality of de-professionalisation, worsening conditions of employment, and general precarious existence. The book traces the dramatic shift in the role and function of universities and academics over the last forty years. It considers how capitalist neoliberalism drives universities to operate like businesses in a cut-throat financialised education market place. Uniquely the book then provides a possible alternative in the form of the National Education Service (NES) and what this alternative system could look like. Thought-provoking and relevant, this book will be of use to postgraduate students as well as new, emerging, and established academics interested in the current state of higher education, academic life, and possibilities for the future.
