Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decay of a? hyperon produces a proton whose polarization is correlated with its momentum in the hyperon center of mass. The positive charge of the hyperon allows momentum selection both on it and on the proton. A beam of longitudinally polarized protons can be produced, by backward decays in the center of mass. The? hyperon being neutral, does not allow momentum selection. Transversely polarized protons, produced by the decay of? particles must be identified by tagging hodoscopes at an intermediate focus in the proton beam line. The use of?+ hyperons to produce polarized protons was first suggested by Rafil Rzaev, a visitor to Fermilab from Serpukhov. He was primarily concerned with the existing 200 GeV polarized beam in the Fermilab meson area. Since then interest has been shown in polarized protons by other experimental collaborations. These experiments are at the ends of beam lines in existing tunnels. These tunnels are curved an are well suited to a?+ produced polarized proton beam which has a net band. The expected fluxes and backgrounds for the beam are discussed here. 2 refs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the polarization (spin) physics of high energy particles and contains three parts. The first part presents the theoretical prefaces of polarization in the particle physics for interpretations, predictions and bases for understanding the following two parts. The second part of the book presents the description of the essential polarization experiments including the recent ones. This part is devoted to the innovative instrumentations, gives the parameters of the polarized beams, targets, polarized gas jets and polarimeters. The third part of the book concentrates on the important achievements in polarization physics. The book can be used in lectures on nuclear and particle physics and and nuclear instruments and methods. As supplementary reading this book is useful for researchers working in particle and nuclear physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Workshop “Polarized Antiproton Beams - How?” was organized to study the theoretical and experimental aspects of the currently accepted methods of producing high intensity polarized antiproton beams in storage rings. The main question discussed was if such beams can be produced, will they provide a powerful new tool for studying the spin structure of both nucleons and nuclei?
Book Synopsis Nuclear and Particle Physics at Intermediate Energies by : J. Warren
Download or read book Nuclear and Particle Physics at Intermediate Energies written by J. Warren and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Brentwood Summer Institute on Nuclear and Particle Physics at Intermediate Energies was the second of its kind organised by the TRIUMF group of Universities, the first taking place at Banff in 1970. With the advent of initial beams at the new meson facilities at LAMPF, SIN, NEVIS, CERN S.C. and TRIUMF it was an eminently suitable time for an in-depth study of some of the science which will be possible when these accelerators achieve their design intensities in proton and meson beams. The organizing committee, comprising: Univ. of Alberta G.A. Beer Univ. of Victoria J.M. Cameron J.M. McMillan U.B.C. D.F. Measday U.B.C. R.M. Pearce Univ. of Victoria J.E.D. Pearson U.B.C. J.B. Warren U.B.C. wishes to acknowledge the financial support provided by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the National Research Council of Canada, and Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., without which the Institute could not have been held. Also we wish to acknowledge the helpful advice of the Scientific Committee of NATO and of Dr. T. Kester, Secretary of this Committee. Many persons from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia helped with the local arrangements and we are grateful to them and particularly to the staff of Brentwood College who made the stay of the participants such a pleasant one.
Book Synopsis Polarization Dynamics In Nuclear And Particle Physics - Proceedings Of The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference by : Asim Orhan Barut
Download or read book Polarization Dynamics In Nuclear And Particle Physics - Proceedings Of The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference written by Asim Orhan Barut and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-12-22 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the four years since the first Trieste Meeting on Spin and Polarization Dynamics in Nuclear and Particle Physics, considerable progress has been made both in the theoretical and experimental aspects of this field. The polarization phenomena have given rise to many more detailed and crucial tests which enhance our understanding of particle physics. New information can also be uncovered in the process of conducting the various tests. For this reason, considerable efforts have been put into the present and future accelerators to extend the experimental data to measure polarization asymmetries for both polarized targets and polarized scattered and produced particles. The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference held in January 1992 brought together both theorists and experimentalists who presented many new findings. These findings have been compiled into this compact volume to give a complete picture of the wide range of theoretical and experimental problems, difficulties, results, prospects and hopes which are at the core of particle physics studies today. It will be a useful guide for the present status of polarization phenomena and their fundamental implications.
