So it was thought well to extend the use of this work to readers in other countries also, and with that object in view Mr. James P. Ogilvie, F.C.S., the technical editor of The International Sugar Journal undertook to prepare an English edition of the Handbook which is herewith offered to the very widespread circle of English-speaking cane sugar producers all over the world in the hopes that it will meet a very urgent need of the day. We have only to add that in our opinion the translator has completed his task with extreme care and praiseworthy accuracy, and we fervently hope that this labour of his will be as welcome in other tropical countries as was the original Dutch work in Java.
