Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The non-linear theory of a plane TWT model is presented. An infinitely wide electron beam interacts with an infinitely wide homogeneous slow wave structure whereby the difficulties associated with radial boundary conditions are avoided. The non-linear wave equation is solved to the third order accuracy by the use of the method of successive approximations. The one valued velocity assumption limits the analysis to the range well below the saturation level. Within this range, however, the results describe such effects as the dependence of fundamental frequency gain and output phase on drive power, the production of the first two harmonics, etc. Furthermore, it is shown that, by the use of suitable approximations, one can write the non linear plane TWT equation in a form very similar to the exact non-linear plane klystron equation. From this point on one can deal with the plane TWT using the methods which have already been successfully applied in the plane klystron case.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive resource presenting the fundamentals and state of the art concepts, design examples, relevant components, and technology Slow-wave Microwave and mm-wave Passive Circuits presents the fundamentals and state of the art concepts, design examples, relevant components, and technology of the subject, plus examples of circuit layout optimization using slow-wave circuits. In one volume, the recent advances in aspects of the slow-wave concept are covered. Potential applications include automotive radars, medical and security applications, and 5G and future 6G for very high-speed communications. The text considers a variety of slow-wave structures and associated concepts which are useful for circuit design. Each structure is electrically modeled with clear illustration. The highly qualified authors show that the use of the slow-wave concept can, in some cases, improve the performance of passive circuits. The techniques proposed make it possible to reduce the size and/or the performance of the circuits, with a beneficial cost-saving effect on semiconductor materials. Concepts are applied to several technologies, namely CMOS, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and nanowires. Sample topics covered in Slow-wave Microwave and mm-wave Passive Circuits include: Concepts of energy storage with examples of slow-wave CPW (S-CPW), slow-wave SIW (SW-SIW), and slow-wave microstrip (S-MS), Transmission line topology and application in integrated technologies (CMOS), including possibilities offered by the BEOL (Back-End-Of-Line), Effect of the geometrical dimensions on the transmission line parameters (Zc, α, εreff, and Q) and comparisons between conventional CPW and CPS, and slow-wave CPW and CPS, Performance of slow-wave coupled lines and comparison with conventional microstrip coupled lines. Slow-wave Microwave and mm-wave Passive Circuits is a highly useful resource on the subject for graduate students (best complemented with a basic book on microwaves), engineers, and researchers. The text is also valuable for physicists wishing to implement comparable techniques in optics or mechanics.

Book excerpt: Recent technological breakthrough in the field of Terahertz radiation has triggered new applications in biology and biomedicine. Particularly, biological applications are based on the specific spectroscopic fingerprints of biological matter in this spectral region. Historically with the discovery of new electromagnetic wave spectrum, we have always discovered new medical diagnostic imaging systems. The use of terahertz wave was not realized due to the absence of useful terahertz sources. Now after successful generation of THz waves, it is reported that a great potential for THz wave exists for its resonance with bio-molecules. There are many challenging issues such as development of THz passive and active instrumentations, understanding of THz-Bio interaction for THz spectroscopy, THz-Bio nonlinear phenomena and safety guideline, and THz imaging systems. Eventually the deeper understanding of THz-Bio interaction and novel THz systems enable us to develop powerful THz biomedical imaging systems which can contribute to biomedical industry. This is a truly interdisciplinary field and convergence technology where the communication between different disciplines is the most challenging issue for the success of the great works. One of the first steps to promote the communications in this convergence technology would be teaching the basics of these different fields to the researchers in a plain language with the help of Convergence of Terahertz Science in Biomedical Systems which is considered to be 3-4th year college students or beginning level of graduate students. Therefore, this type of book can be used by many people who want to enter or understand this field. Even more it can be used for teaching in universities or research institutions.

Book excerpt: The field of electromagnetics has seen considerable advances in recent years, based on the wide applications of numerical methods for investigating electromagnetic fields, microwaves, and other devices. Wide-Band Slow-Wave Systems: Simulation and Applications presents new technical solutions and research results for the analysis, synthesis, and design of slow-wave structures for modern electronic devices with super-wide pass-bands. It makes available, for the first time in English, significant research from the past 20 years that was previously published only in Russian and Lithuanian. The authors examine electrodynamics, multiconductor lines, and numerical methods for the modeling, simulation, analysis, and design of various super-wide-band slow-wave structures, including helical, meander, and gutter-type systems. The book features: The electrodynamic method for analysis of helical structures containing periodical inhomogeneities The multiconductor line method for analysis of complex helical, meander, and gutter-type wide-band slow-wave structures The method of moments for modeling and analysis of multiconductor lines containing a limited number of lines and meander structures with limited length Use of powerful software systems Microwave Office®, MICROWAVE STUDIO®, and MATLAB® for modeling, analysis, and design A synergy of various methods for investigating and designing wide-band slow-wave structures Solution of specific problems related to the design of wide-band and super-wide-band electrodynamic delay and deflection systems Principles of computer-aided design of slow-wave structures Presenting the theory, principles, properties, and applications of wide-band and super-wide-band slow-wave structures, this book will be of interest to students, engineers, researchers, and designers in the fields of electronic and microwave engineering.

Book excerpt: Do you design and build vacuum electron devices, or work with the systems that use them? Quickly develop a solid understanding of how these devices work with this authoritative guide, written by an author with over fifty years of experience in the field. Rigorous in its approach, it focuses on the theory and design of commercially significant types of gridded, linear-beam, crossed-field and fast-wave tubes. Essential components such as waveguides, resonators, slow-wave structures, electron guns, beams, magnets and collectors are also covered, as well as the integration and reliable operation of devices in microwave and RF systems. Complex mathematical analysis is kept to a minimum, and Mathcad worksheets supporting the book online aid understanding of key concepts and connect the theory with practice. Including coverage of primary sources and current research trends, this is essential reading for researchers, practitioners and graduate students working on vacuum electron devices.
