In Lynn Crawford’s Pitchin’ In, Crawford shares many of the amazing and simple recipes from her adventures and celebrates the local food heroes she meets along the way. She gives us her best food and cooking tips and recipes for many of her favourite dishes to enjoy with family and friends. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first autobiography by Leroy “Satchel” Paige, one of the best and most colorful pitchers in the history of professional baseball. Based on interviews conducted by Cleveland sports writer Hal Lebovitz, this book was first released shortly after Paige joined the Indians in 1948 (days after his 42nd birthday and after 22 years playing with various Negro League, minor league and Puerto Rican League teams). Told in a casual first-person style, Paige's stories provide a snapshot from a bygone era of Major League baseball. Paige tells how he began his pitching career by throwing rocks (”We had a pretty rough gang down on the South Side of Mobile, near the Bay, where I was born and raised”). He describes his early years in baseball, starting at age 17 with the Chattanooga Black Lookouts in 1926, and addresses the controversy over varying claims about his age and the source of his nickname. He talks about ballplayers he had known, in particular Josh Gibson (”the best of all”) of the Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays, and Bob Feller (with whom Paige barnstormed years before joining the Indians). Includes a foreword by Indians owner Bill Veeck and a note from Indians player-manager Lou Boudreau. With Paige's help, the Indians went on to win the 1948 World Series.

Even parents who sincerely love their children sometimes use the wrong methods of anger and frustration in an attempt to control their children. But angry parenting doesn’t just weaken relationships between parents and their children; it can, over time, destroy them. Few parents set out to become yelling meanies who no longer enjoy their children. Yet many feel stuck, unable to pull themselves out of their ugly habits. This book: Provides practical and biblical solutions to get to the other side of the issue Gives hope and freedom from the tyranny of stressed-out and angry parenting Offers solutions that are ideal for any family. If anger is in your home — even in small ways — this book is for you. It is time to replace that anger with something more powerful: patience and peace. Israel and Brook share candidly from their experience as parents.

Book excerpt: Gamer By: John Coppett Gamer by John Coppett is a unique tale of fiction based on the life of Millard “Frosty” Snyder, a 74-year-old widower. As we meet Frosty on an early April day, he is tending the garden that his late wife, Francine, had loved and cared for; it is the first anniversary of her passing. The couple had been childless, which had left Frosty without a support system. Gardening was an activity that provided some relief from his sorrow; it made him feel close to Francine. The story unravels in several realms of time and space, which gives the reader a deeper understanding of the life of Frosty Snyder. There will be glimpses of his past as a Minor League Baseball catcher and later as a scout for the Cardinals; with so many memories, his recollections prompt him to consult with Francine, even though she is gone. There is the present, which takes off with an unexpected invitation to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and makes him a celebrity in his hometown. And then there are the ghosts of players from the past, now playing for the Eternal League; will this be in Frosty’s future? With Frosty’s notoriety, come opportunities he could never have dreamed of at the age of seventy-four. Will the possibility of a scandal create more stress than he can handle; or, will Frosty Snyder succeed in fulfilling a promise made, showing himself to be a true “gamer”? Enjoy the rollercoaster ride that is the life of Millard “Frosty” Snyder. To quote the author, “Never give up on a dream.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's wrong with my butt? She means those words to be directed toward the woman beside her, not him. But he can't stop himself from answering. Not when her ass is the most magnificent thing he's seen in his life. Apparently, answering her with 'not a damn thing' wasn't what she was expecting. She likely wasn't expecting the baseball she took to the face at his next at bat, either. All it takes is one ill-fated foul ball, and George Hoffman, Lumberjacks center fielder, falls head over heels in love with Wrigley Field-and yes, that is her real name. From that point forward, George and Wrigley fall into a fast whirlwind love that ends with them eloping to Vegas. And he has his potty mouth, titty bar owning, pain in the ass grandmother to thank for it. Not that he's complaining or anything. Who wouldn't want to be married to a woman that made his heart race like he was in the final game of the World Series? The only problem is trying to convince her of that.
