In the Shenandoah Valley, in the region later known as Mosbys Confederacy, insurgency brews, and the time travelers must join the raiders to prevent a transhumanist trap from dooming the mission from the start. Book excerpt: Book #6 in Steve White's exciting Jason Thanou series. Jason and his team from the Temporal Regulatory Authority must travel to late 20th century Earth to prevent a device that allows its user to see back in time from falling into the hands of the Transhumanist Underground. Jason Thanou has fought for the continued existence of humanity across the centuries. As a special operations officer of the Temporal Regulatory Authority, he’s traveled though time to thwart the Transhumanists—genetically and mechanically enhanced beings that seek to destroy humanity—and their alien allies, the Teloi. But for all his work, the Transhumanist Underground has never been defeated. In possession of the same time travel technology as the Temporal Regulatory Authority, the Transhumanists have been busy planting “time bombs” throughout recorded history. Time bombs that are set to go off on The Day, when the secret history the Transhumanists have planted will be revealed, resulting in the overthrow of humanity. Now, Jason Thanou, along with fellow TRA agents Alexandre Mondrago and Father Julian Casinde, must travel through Earth’s bloody history to ensure the survival of the human race. They’ll find themselves in Italy, two days before the death of Pope John Paul I. Father Casinde has reason to believe that something much more sinister than a simple heart attack is behind the death of the Holy Father. Racing against—and through—time, Jason and his fellow officers must defeat the Transhumanists and their Teloi allies. Meanwhile, back in Jason’s home time of the 24th century, The Day grows ever closer! At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). STAND AGAINST THE ALIEN INVADER APOCALYPSE! The war with the profoundly alien Arduans has ended, and the Arduans have come to call humanity their allies. The Kaituni drive the Arachnid fleet ahead of them, inflicting untold damage. The war has been marked by retreat on the side of the pan-Sentient Union. It seems the best they can do is minimize their losses. But now the Arachnids and the Kaituni are at the doorstep to the Heart Worlds, Sol, and Earth: Alpha Centauri. The odds look bleak. But Admiral Ian Trevayne and Commodore Ossian Wethermere have faced down long odds in the past. It’s time to take a stand, for Earth, for humanity . . . and for the pan-Sentient Union! Book excerpt: ORIGINAL TRADE PAPERACK. Steve White, co-author with David Weber of the New York Timesbest-seller The Shiva Option, joins with Compton Crook Award Winner Charles E. Gannon to carve another notch in the Starfire adventure saga. The war with the Arduans—profoundly alien invaders who originally arrived in STL ships—is over. Most of those attackers are now probationary (and very productive) citizens of the Rim Federation. However, many among the Arduans’ warrior caste have neither accepted defeat, nor the personhood of any of the other intelligence races. Their leader, the ruthless admiral of the second Arduan exodus— Amunsit—is in firm control of the Zarzuela system. Along with a fifth column among the peaceable Arduans, she hopes to find allies in subsequent refugee fleets that abandoned their race's now-dead home system long ago. But as the victors’ diplomats attempt to soothe tensions with these warlike neighbors, two heroes of the last war—veteran Admiral Ian Trevayne and young trouble-shooter Ossian Wethermere--suspect they have stumbled upon a deeper Arduan plot: one which could shatter the Pan-Sentient Union, and perhaps interstellar civilization itself. Book excerpt: In film, pirates are romanticized as swashbuckling outlaws who defy authority, pursue danger, and cruise the world's oceans in search of wealth and adventure. They are celebrated in books, comics and rock 'n' roll lyrics. Their ruffled shirts and tricorne hats inspire fashion designers; their cruel exploits are immortalized in art. But pirates through time have not been lovable, witty tricksters, they were often societal outcasts and pioneers who helped forge political and social revolt.

Book excerpt: Running from a mutinous crew, sucked through a wormhole like in a bad sci-fi movie and slowly running out of booze . . . and that’s just the beginning of this non-traditional story that starts off as a simple captain’s log book and evolves into something more like a really warped and twisted TV show in text. Follow the Captain and crew on a series of seemingly random adventures, where it’s obvious it’s not just the Captain who’s been drinking. At some point you may ask yourself, is all this just coincidence or is there something dark and annoying on the horizon? The Captain seems to have a drinking problem, the problem being he never has enough to drink and people from his past keep showing up and ruining his buzz / Akki a corrupted artificial intelligence who occasionally takes over the Captain’s log has his own plans, mostly self-serving ones because he has nothing better to do. The rest of the crew, pirates, hot chicks, robots and a foul beaked little space penguin round out the Drunken Space Pirates and with all the wise cracks and shots aimed at everyone and everything its clear the alcohol flows rather freely within the D.S.P. Many of the off the wall characters of the D.S.P. are walking guilty pleasures who say what they feel, do what they want and just generally give it to life, pop culture and the universe in general with both barrels . . . and occasionally fish...

This second volume chronicles the record of Doctor Who stage plays, official and independent, from Curse of the Daleks to the Trials of Davros, including the reviews of the recordings and documentaries about these plays. We explore the bizarre copyright and legal structure underlying Doctor Who, that led the BBC to discard two hundred classic episodes to the junk pile in the 70s. And that same copyright structure allowed fans to legally make their own movies in the Doctor Who universe in the 90s using everything but the Doctor himself. And we'll look at many of these productions, from Colin Baker's 'The Stranger' series, to Downtime with the Brigadier, Sarah Jane, Victoria Waterfield (witht the original actors playing their original roles), as well as the Great Intelligence and the Yeti, to excursions with Sontarans and Rutans, Autons, Daemons and more. And we'll see how, despite the BBC's efforts, the fans managed to save every lost episode on Audio, were essential to the recover of over a hundred lost episodes on video, and the efforts to remake, reconstruct, and re-make lost adventures, including ones the BBC never actually filmed. Chock full of reviews and articles, the Pirate Histories pull back the curtains and show you the places and things in the world of Doctor Who that you never imagined.

Book excerpt: A thrilling sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller Nick of Time, in which the young time traveler Nick McIver must prove his courage once more, on two fronts: in World War Two-era England, where Nazis have invaded his homeland, and in America during the Revolution, where Nick stands shoulder to shoulder with General George Washington It's 1940 and the Nazis are invading Nick's beloved home, the British Channel Islands. So Nick takes to the skies: He has discovered an old World War One fighter plane in an abandoned barn. Determined to learn to fly, he is soon risking life and limb to photograph armed German minelayers and patrol boats, and executing incredibly perilous bombing raids over Nazi airfields by night. Meanwhile, the evil pirate, Captain Billy Blood, still desperate to acquire Nick's time machine, returns to Greybeard Island. He kidnaps Nick's sister, Kate, and transports her back to Port Royal, Jamaica, in the year 1781, leaving Nick a message that if he wants to see her alive again, he must come to Jamaica and make an even swap: Kate's life in exchange for Nick's wondrous time machine--that's Blood's bargain. Having traveled back in time, Nick discovers a plot that might change the outcome of the American Revolution. Disguised as an eighteenth-century cabin boy, he travels to the Caribbean and confronts his old enemy, who has assembled the world's largest pirate armada. From the battlefields of the New World to the brutal German occupation of English soil in World War Two, Ted Bell's The Time Pirate has Nick McIver fighting once again to defend his country, the outcome of two wars resting on his young shoulders.
