Book Synopsis Archean Rare-Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia by : Thomas Dittrich
Download or read book Archean Rare-Metal Pegmatites in Zimbabwe and Western Australia written by Thomas Dittrich and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites are important resources for rare metals. For Cs, only the LCT pegmatites with the zeolite group mineral pollucite at Bikita (Zimbabwe Craton) and Tanco (Superior Province Craton) are of commercial importance. Common characteristics of world-class LCT pegmatite deposits include their Meso- to Neoarchean age and geological setting within greenstone belt lithologies on Archean Cratons. This study presents the first coherent and comparative scientific investigation of five major LCT pegmatite systems from the Yilgarn, Pilbara and Zimbabwe Craton. For the evaluation of their Cs potential and of the genetic concepts of pollucite formation, the pegmatites from Wodgina, Londonderry, Mount Deans and Cattlin Creek were compared to the Bikita pollucite mineralization. The integration of the new data (e.g., geochronological and radiogenic isotope data) into the complex geological framework: 1) enhances our knowledge of the formation of LCT pegmatite systems, and 2) will contribute to the further exploration of additional world-class LCT pegmatite deposits, which 3) may host massive pollucite mineralisations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition has been brought up to date following the latest developments in the state. The human history of Western Australia, as of all Australia, stretches back some 60,000 years. It is often assumed that European colonisation was very recent relative to the rest of Australia, but in fact it was contemporary with the first penal colony in Queensland, and while a South Australian settlement was still a gleam in Londons eye. Albany was first settled in 1826 and the Swan River settlement (later to become Perth) in 1829. It was also the first part of Australia to be even seen by Europeans: the Portuguese back in the early 1600s. The first 60 or 70 years of European settlement were very difficult, but when the gold rushes came in the late 1800s, WA was set on the path of mineral wealth that still drives its economy today.

The original History of Australian Land Settlement, 1788-1920 was published in Melbourne in 1924, when the writer was a young lecturer in British History in the University of Melbourne. As the years and decades went by, more and more work was done to fill in research gaps and there were of necessity many re interpretations. This particularly applied to the initial squatting period and to the then-unknown stage between the gold discoveries and federation. This is a copy of the original version.
