Book Synopsis Hidden in Plain Sight by : Kimberly Mehlman-Orozco
Download or read book Hidden in Plain Sight written by Kimberly Mehlman-Orozco and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pimp-controlled sex workers, exploited migrants, domestic servants, and sex trafficking of runaway and homeless youth are just a few of the many forms of sex trafficking and labor trafficking going on all around the world-including in the United States. This book exposes both well-known and more obscure forms of human trafficking, documenting how these heinous crimes are encountered in our daily lives. What types of human trafficking crimes are being committed here in the United States? Who are the victims of traffickers? How do we all unknowingly consume the services and products of slavery? And why are human traffickers able to maintain their illicit operations with relative impunity-indeed, with less than .01 percent of human traffickers ever being held accountable for their crimes? Hidden in Plain Sight: America's Slaves of the New Millennium documents how human trafficking and its byproducts touch every community in America, from impoverished inner-city neighborhoods to middle-class suburbs and alcoves of wealthy estates. It presents information derived from narrative accounts of real-life trafficking cases, interviews with convicted human traffickers, empirical research, and criminal case files to expose the grim realities of human trafficking in America, perpetrated by Americans. Readers will grasp the origins, evolution, and extent of the problem; understand how trafficking plays an unrecognized role in our day-to-day lives; and see why advancements in awareness and anti-trafficking resources have not changed the status quo. The victims of trafficking continue to be criminalized by law enforcement, and the offenders continue to exploit and profit from new recruits. This book equips readers with the knowledge needed to identify human trafficking cases and advocate for policy changes to end this scourge in America.

It's the size of a small city.It has everything a small city would have like two hospitals and restaurants and shopping malls all over the ship. Captain Braymer also has a romantic attachment to a young lady by the name of Lieutenant Heather Courtney who is an Officers Aid.They have a few out of the ordinary experiences that they do not forget any time soon. And our new friends the Powleens have advanced us centuries ahead of our time. They also traded us for five of their newest ships in their space fleet all with light speed capability with all of their weapons in tacked. They traded us for all kinds of their gadgetrÝs and even some of their food. That's what they do go all over the Galaxy looking for friends and ultimate knowledge and trade with everyone they can find.Commander Braymer also has a mission to do a genesis on Mars that turns out surprisingly good with a few added benefits. One of the benefits was discovering a lot of Martian people and animals in a Noah ark kind of setup that has been frozen for over 100,000 years in life support chambers. They were all brought back to life again. There were many discoveries' not to mention all of the futuristic weapons they find with aircraft all superior to anything at present by anyone. And nobody expected the Martians to have special mental powers like telekinetic and telekinesis and all sorts of mental telepathy powers like mind transference and the power to levitate in the air. Well everything was going pretty smooth until Galactic war breaks out all over the universe and the final Battle happens in our solar system. It was Earth with the Powleen people and also the Martians against the snake looking people called the Arcons and their friends the Thracians who resemble dog like people with sharp claws. There were crashed ships all over our planets and their moons in our solar system. It was the Battle of all Battles. It decided the control of our Galaxy. If you think all of this sounds good wait till you read the book, its action packed from start to finish. I know you will enjoy Moon People Trilogy. It's some of my best work. And don't worry some day you just might see something that resembles "Moon People 3"coming to your local Book store near you. Thank you and God Bless. Dale M.Courtney Author
Book Synopsis Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States by : National Research Council
Download or read book Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day in the United States, children and adolescents are victims of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Despite the serious and long-term consequences for victims as well as their families, communities, and society, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes are largely under supported, inefficient, uncoordinated, and unevaluated. Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States examines commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States under age 18. According to this report, efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to these crimes require better collaborative approaches that build upon the capabilities of people and entities from a range of sectors. In addition, such efforts need to confront demand and the individuals who commit and benefit from these crimes. The report recommends increased awareness and understanding, strengthening of the law's response, strengthening of research to advance understanding and to support the development of prevention and intervention strategies, support for multi-sector and interagency collaboration, and creation of a digital information-sharing platform. A nation that is unaware of these problems or disengaged from solutions unwittingly contributes to the ongoing abuse of minors. If acted upon in a coordinated and comprehensive manner, the recommendations of Confronting Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking of Minors in the United States can help advance and strengthen the nation's emerging efforts to prevent, identify, and respond to commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of minors in the United States.
Book Synopsis Prostitution in the Digital Age by : R. Barri Flowers
Download or read book Prostitution in the Digital Age written by R. Barri Flowers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This candid book reveals the enormity of the commercial sex-for-sale industry in the modern era. For those without direct experience with the seamy, real-life world of prostitution, it can be easy to accept the glamorized depictions of the sex-for-sale industry as it is often portrayed in fiction and Hollywood or sensationalized in the media. In reality, the business of sexual exploitation such as prostitution, sex trafficking, pornography, and sex tourism is far from attractive. This latest book from literary criminologist R. Barri Flowers updates the subject of prostitution for the 21st century, explaining why the commercial sex trade industry continues to flourish and exploring its proliferation in the digital world of the Internet, cell phones, and text messaging. The grim ramifications of prostitution—such as victimization, substance abuse, HIV, arrest, or even death—are addressed. Careful attention has also been paid to the various individuals involved: those who are prostituted (female and male), customers, pimps, traffickers, and other players in the sex trade.

That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame-spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it. In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives. Download or read book Sonichu #0 written by C. C. and published by . This book was released on 2005-03-24 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonichu #0 is the first issue of Christian Weston Chandler's magnum opus. At this initial stage, the comic was almost entirely about Sonichu and Rosechu, although bits of Chris's life still managed to find their way in.The "hand-drawn premiere issue" is a special zero issue. In the comics industry, zero issues are used as either a sales-enhancing gimmick (Image Comics is a notable user of this) or a special preview of work that will not truly begin until issue #1. Given that it previews nothing, which one Chris was going for is probably the former, though given that it's not legally able to be sold, it fails even that. The comic consists of Sonichu's first three adventures. In "Sonichu's Origin", the core cast of the series is introduced as Sonichu and Rosechu are created. Then, in "Genesis of the Lovehogs", the two protagonists meet and immediately fall in love. Finally, in "Sonichu vs. Naitsirhc", our yellow hero does battle with his first real villain, who but foreshadows the challenges awaiting the hedgehogs in the following issue. Bonus material in Sonichu #0 includes various advertisements for imaginary Sonichu products, "classic" Sonichu comic strips drawn outside of the narrative of the main comic book, and the first "Sub-Episode".
