Book Synopsis Theory of Phase Transitions by : Ya. G. Sinai
Download or read book Theory of Phase Transitions written by Ya. G. Sinai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Phase Transitions: Rigorous Results is inspired by lectures on mathematical problems of statistical physics presented in the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. The aim of the book is to expound a series of rigorous results about the theory of phase transitions. The book consists of four chapters, wherein the first chapter discusses the Hamiltonian, its symmetry group, and the limit Gibbs distributions corresponding to a given Hamiltonian. The second chapter studies the phase diagrams of lattice models that are considered at low temperatures. The notions of a ground state of a Hamiltonian and the stability of the set of the ground states of a Hamiltonian are also introduced. Chapter 3 presents the basic theorems about lattice models with continuous symmetry, and Chapter 4 focuses on the second-order phase transitions and on the theory of scaling probability distributions, connected to these phase transitions. Specialists in statistical physics and other related fields will greatly benefit from this publication.
Book Synopsis Elements of Phase Transitions and Critical Phenomena by : Hidetoshi Nishimori
Download or read book Elements of Phase Transitions and Critical Phenomena written by Hidetoshi Nishimori and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an introductory account of the theory of phase transitions and critical phenomena, this book reflects lectures given by the authors to graduate students at their departments and is thus classroom-tested to help beginners enter the field. Most parts are written as self-contained units and every new concept or calculation is explained in detail without assuming prior knowledge of the subject. The book significantly enhances and revises a Japanese version which is a bestseller in the Japanese market and is considered a standard textbook in the field. It contains new pedagogical presentations of field theory methods, including a chapter on conformal field theory, and various modern developments hard to find in a single textbook on phase transitions. Exercises are presented as the topics develop, with solutions found at the end of the book, making the text useful for self-teaching, as well as for classroom learning.
Book Synopsis Phase Transitions of Simple Systems by : Boris M. Smirnov
Download or read book Phase Transitions of Simple Systems written by Boris M. Smirnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-24 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph develops a unified microscopic basis for phases and phase changes of bulk matter and small systems, based on classical physics. It describes the thermodynamics of ensembles of particles and explains phase transition in gaseous and liquid systems. The origins are derived from simple but physically relevant models of how transitions occur between rigid and fluid states, of how phase equilibria arise, and how they differ for small and large systems.
Book Synopsis Lectures On Phase Transitions And The Renormalization Group by : Nigel Goldenfeld
Download or read book Lectures On Phase Transitions And The Renormalization Group written by Nigel Goldenfeld and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering the elementary aspects of the physics of phases transitions and the renormalization group, this popular book is widely used both for core graduate statistical mechanics courses as well as for more specialized courses. Emphasizing understanding and clarity rather than technical manipulation, these lectures de-mystify the subject and show precisely "how things work." Goldenfeld keeps in mind a reader who wants to understand why things are done, what the results are, and what in principle can go wrong. The book reaches both experimentalists and theorists, students and even active researchers, and assumes only a prior knowledge of statistical mechanics at the introductory graduate level.Advanced, never-before-printed topics on the applications of renormalization group far from equilibrium and to partial differential equations add to the uniqueness of this book.

Book Synopsis Order, Disorder and Criticality by : Yurij Holovatch
Download or read book Order, Disorder and Criticality written by Yurij Holovatch and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second volume of review papers on advanced problems of phase transitions and critical phenomena, following the success of the first volume in 2004. Broadly, the volume aims to demonstrate that the phase transition theory, which experienced its ''golden age'' during the 70s and 80s, is far from over and there is still a good deal of work to be done, both at the fundamental level and in respect of applications. The topics presented in this volume include: critical behavior as explained by the non-perturbative renormalization group, critical dynamics, a spacetime approach to phase transitions, self-organized criticality, and exactly solvable models of phase transitions in strongly correlated systems. As the first volume, this book is based on the review lectures that were given in Lviv (Ukraine) at the OC Ising lecturesOCO OCo a traditional annual workshop on phase transitions and critical phenomena which brings together scientists working in the field with university students and those who are interested in the subject."
Book Synopsis Reconstructive Phase Transitions by : Pierre Toldano
Download or read book Reconstructive Phase Transitions written by Pierre Toldano and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the phenomenological theory of first-order structural phase transitions, with a special emphasis on reconstructive transformations in which a group-subgroup relationship between the symmetries of the phases is absent. It starts with a unified presentation of the current approach to first-order phase transitions, using the more recent results of the Landau theory of phase transitions and of the theory of singularities. A general theory of reconstructive phase transitions is then formulated, in which the structures surrounding a transition are expressed in terms of density-waves, providing a natural definition of the transition order-parameters, and a description of the corresponding phase diagrams and relevant physical properties. The applicability of the theory is illustrated by a large number of concrete examples pertaining to the various classes of reconstructive transitions: allotropic transformations of the elements, displacive and order-disorder transformations in metals, alloys and related structures, crystal-quasicrystal transformations.
Book Synopsis Phase Transition Dynamics by : Tian Ma
Download or read book Phase Transition Dynamics written by Tian Ma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-08 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to a comprehensive and unified dynamic transition theory for dissipative systems and to applications of the theory to a range of problems in the nonlinear sciences. The main objectives of this book are to introduce a general principle of dynamic transitions for dissipative systems, to establish a systematic dynamic transition theory, and to explore the physical implications of applications of the theory to a range of problems in the nonlinear sciences. The basic philosophy of the theory is to search for a complete set of transition states, and the general principle states that dynamic transitions of all dissipative systems can be classified into three categories: continuous, catastrophic and random. The audience for this book includes advanced graduate students and researchers in mathematics and physics as well as in other related fields. This second edition introduces a unified theory for topological phase transitions, provides a first-principle approach to statistical and quantum physics, and offers a microscopic mechanism of quantum condensates (Bose-Einstein condensation, superfluidity, and superconductivity). Reviews of first edition: “The goals of this interesting book are to derive a general principle of dynamic transitions for dissipative systems and to establish a systematic dynamic transition theory for a wide range of problems in the nonlinear sciences. ... The intended audience for this book includes students and researchers working on nonlinear problems in physics, meteorology, oceanography, biology, chemistry, and the social sciences.” (Carlo Bianca, Mathematical Reviews, December, 2014) “This is a clearly written book on numerous types of phase transitions taken in a broad sense when a dynamical dissipative system transforms from one physical state into another. ... The book is a very useful literature not only for the professionals in the field of dynamic systems and phase transitions but also for graduate students due to its interdisciplinary coverage and state-of-the-art level.” (Vladimir Čadež, zbMATH, Vol. 1285, 2014)
Book Synopsis Lectures on Phase Transitions by : V. I. Yukalov
Download or read book Lectures on Phase Transitions written by V. I. Yukalov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the problem of phase transitions, emphasizing the generality and universality of the methods and models used. The course is basically concentrated on the problems of vacuum degeneration in macroscopic systems and a fundamental concept of quasiaverages by Bogolubov playing a special role in the theory of phase transitions and critical phenomena. An analysis of the connection between phase transition and spontaneous symmetry breaking in a macroscopic system allows a unique description of both first- and second-order phase transitions. The unique features of this book are: (i) a unique approach of describing first ? as well as second-order phase transitions, based on the Bogolubov concept of quasi-averages.(ii) a detailed presentation of the material and at the same time a review of modern problems.(iii) a general character of developed ideas that could be applied to various particular systems of condensed matter physics, nuclear physics and high-energy physics.

Book Synopsis Evolution of Phase Transitions by : Rohan Abeyaratne
Download or read book Evolution of Phase Transitions written by Rohan Abeyaratne and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-05-08 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2006 work began with the author's exploration of the applicability of the finite deformation theory of elasticity when various standard assumptions such as convexity of various energies or ellipticity of the field equations of equilibrium are relinquished. The finite deformation theory of elasticity turns out to be a natural vehicle for the study of phase transitions in solids where thermal effects can be neglected. This text will be of interest to those interested in the development and application of continuum-mechanical models that describe the macroscopic response of materials capable of undergoing stress- or temperature-induced transitions between two solid phases. The focus is on the evolution of phase transitions which may be either dynamic or quasi-static, controlled by a kinetic relation which in the framework of classical thermomechanics represents information that is supplementary to the usual balance principles and constitutive laws of conventional theory.
