Book Synopsis Development of Guidelines for Practical and Realistic Construction Specifications by : Miller-Warden Associates
Download or read book Development of Guidelines for Practical and Realistic Construction Specifications written by Miller-Warden Associates and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A highway construction specification is a means to an end. Its mission is to provide the traveling public with an adequate and economical pavement on which vehicles can move easily from point to point. Specifications should be of the "end result", "materials and methods", or "restricted performance" types, depending on the conditions of acceptance. To achieve maximum economy, specification requirements must be geared to policy and cost considerations. To insure practicality, the given administrative and engineering guidelines should be consulted. This report presents guidelines for the preparation or a complete specification meeting all requirements.

Book Synopsis Moisture Damage in Asphalt Concrete by : Russell G. Hicks
Download or read book Moisture Damage in Asphalt Concrete written by Russell G. Hicks and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1991 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, construction engineers, maintenance engineers, and others interested in avoiding or limiting moisture damage in asphalt concrete. Information is provided on physical and chemical explanations for moisture damage in asphalt concrete, along with a discussion of current practices and test methods for determining or reducing the susceptibility of various asphalt concrete components and mixtures to such damage. Moisture damage in asphalt concrete is a nationwide problem which often necessitates premature replacement of highway pavement surfaces. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the underlying physical and chemical phenomena responsible for such damage. Current test methods used to determine the susceptibility of asphalt concretes, or their constituents, to moisture damage are described and evaluated. Additionally, current practices for minimizing the potential for moisture damage are examined.

Book Synopsis Effect of Highway Landscape Development on Nearby Property by : John H. Brinton
Download or read book Effect of Highway Landscape Development on Nearby Property written by John H. Brinton and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data were collected and disturbances were measured to determine the effects of physical disturbances by limited access highways on nearby property values. 3 types of analyses were made on the collected data: major-variable analysis, economic analysis, and interview analysis. In the major-variable analysis, relationships and correlations were examined between sound levels and sound level reductions at specific measurement points, and other variables such as sound level perception, present tree diversity, and homeowners' attitudes of buying another house next to the highway. The economic analysis evaluated the effect of highway disturbances and landscape/landforms on property values. The interview analysis was used to evaluate specific complaints or disturbances.
