Book Synopsis Phylogenetic Relationships Within Heliodinidae and Systematics of Moths Formerly Assigned to Heliodines Stainton (Lepidoptera by : Yu-Feng Hsu
Download or read book Phylogenetic Relationships Within Heliodinidae and Systematics of Moths Formerly Assigned to Heliodines Stainton (Lepidoptera written by Yu-Feng Hsu and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heliodinids are tiny, brightly colored dayflying moths. Phylogenetic relationships among genera of Heliodinidae are proposed using parsimony and character compatibility. We describe and illustrate 45 North and Central species (25 newly named) assigned to five genera (two new, two exhumed from synonymy). Larval host plants are recorded for 33 species (14 newly discovered), about 45% of the known fauna; 90% of these are specialists on Caryophyllales, primarliy Nyctaginaceae.

Book Synopsis International Advances in the Ecology, Zoogeography, and Systematics of Mayflies and Stoneflies by : F. R. Hauer
Download or read book International Advances in the Ecology, Zoogeography, and Systematics of Mayflies and Stoneflies written by F. R. Hauer and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2008-06-24 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this volume is to encourage and facilitate focused research and provide a forum for scholarly exchange about the status of Mayfly and Stonefly science. Professor John Brittain, whose research is focused on freshwater entomology, especially egg development and life cycle strategies of Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera, presents a chapter reflecting on the quality of mayflies as good indicators of global warming and the quality of streams and lakes. Professor Emeritus Andrew Sheldon, whose interests have encompassed community and population ecology of aquatic animals over a span of more than 40 years, especially insects and fishes, explores topics of Scale and Hierarchy and the Ecology of Plecoptera, discussing how studies emphasizing scale and perspective reveal importance of stoneflies to ecosystems. Other topics cover a broad base of disciplines including morphology, physiology, phylogeny, taxonomy, ecology and conservation. The chapters have been compiled into three sections for this volume: Ecology, Zoogeography and Systematics.
Book Synopsis Insect Biodiversity by : Robert G. Foottit
Download or read book Insect Biodiversity written by Robert G. Foottit and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-03-03 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect Biodiversity: Science and Society brings togetherleading scientific experts to assess the impact insects have onhumankind and the earth’s fragile ecosystems. It examines whyinsect biodiversity matters and how the rapid evolution of insectspecies is affecting us all. Insects and related arthropods make up more than 50 percent ofthe known animal diversity globally, yet a lack of knowledge aboutinsects is hindering the advance of science and society. This bookexplores the wide variety in type and number of insect species andtheir evolutionary relationships. Case studies offer assessments onhow insect biodiversity can help meet the needs of a rapidlyexpanding human population, and also examine the consequences thatan increased loss of insect species will have on the world. The book concludes that a better understanding of the biologyand ecology of insects is the only way to sustainably manageecosystems in an ever changing global environment.
Book Synopsis Species Revision and Generic Systematics of World Rileyinae (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) by : Michael W. Gates
Download or read book Species Revision and Generic Systematics of World Rileyinae (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) written by Michael W. Gates and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2008-06-24 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subfamily Rileyinae (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) is redefined to contain 6 genera and 69 species for which keys are provided. Two morphological data sets, analyzed via maximum parsimony with PAUP*, yield hypotheses on the placement of Rileyinae within Eurytomidae and internal relationships of Rileyinae. Tables detailing host utilization for Eurytomidae (genera), Rileyinae (species), and confirmed/suspected plant associations for Rileyinae are included.

This book was released on 2006-11-27 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: California has one of the world's most diverse chrysidid wasp faunas. These are large, brightly metallic-colored parasitoids of sphecoid wasps and bees. This study reviews the species and genera of Chrysididae in California, maps their overall distributions, and gives keys to California genera and species. In addition, three species described by Linsenmaier in 1994 are synonymized.

Download or read book Lepidopterorum Catalogus written by Poole and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The noctuidae of the world, a family with numerous important agricultural pests, comprises about a third of the entire order Lepidoptera. This new three-volume set is the first complete catalog for the world. About 38,000 named species (including known synonyms) are listed alphabetically under each genus name in over 1,000 pages of text. Genera area also listed alphabetically, but subfamily affiliations are noted for each of the valid names to enable users to segregate genera by subfamily. Valid names are noted in boldface. Synonyms are listed for each genus and species; the species synonyms are also listed alphabetically among the valid names, thus enabling users to make two kinds of searches in the text as well as in the index. The catalog provides citation data on all described names (other than infraspecific names), with references cited in the compete bibliography at the end. Reference is also made to more important papers on the biology, larvae, host plants, and illustrations for each species, again with full titles noted in the bibliography. The main host plants for each species, where known, are listed under each. Details of holotypes, where known, are also noted. The bibliography has entries for approximately 4,400 papers.
