Book excerpt: There is just something so provocative about rock stars. We can't get enough of their gently-weeping guitars, tuneful talents, and sexy shenanigans. Whether you plastered Jimi Hendrix posters all over your bedroom walls, danced to Love Is A Battlefield at your wedding, or dressed as Slash on Halloween - admit it: you've been beguiled by the guitar gods. Go behind the music and down the rabbit hole with five bizarre, outlandish, dark, droll, and just plain sacrilegious stories by Darren Gordon Smith (Blurt: Curses & Verses) and Staci Layne Wilson (Dark Lullaby). Fandom/Phantom - When Alberta magically brings her favorite departed rock n roll poet back to life, he's everything she dreamed... at first. Little Rosie vs. The Devil - When Satan tempts guitarist Strings McGee at the crossroads of his life, there's hell to pay. In(ter)vention - When alkie music critic Ian is ambushed with an intervention by his well-meaning but misguided family, things go from bad to super-bad. Depraved Indifference - When Hawkeye gets too obsessed with the flameout fatalities of famous hi-fi heroes, fantasy spills into reality. Fishing With Grandpa - When aging, entitled rock star Rhys Weedham takes a shine to his granddaughter's best friend, the unsuspecting young lady is faced with a Hobson's choice. PRAISE: "Anyone can write about rock n roll, but when you get heavy-hitters like Staci Layne Wilson and Darren Gordon Smith applying their combined knowledge of the genre for our entertainment, you know you're in for a rare treat. And what a treat it is. Electrifying, terrifying, and unique. I loved every minute I spent in these dark, deranged worlds. Bring on the sequel!" - Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award-winning Author 'Kin' and 'The Turtle Boy' "Uniquely nightmarish. There's a touch of Bret Easton Ellis in the stories' surreal mix of anxiety, satire, and obsessive pop music analysis and inventory." - Don Mancini, Saturn-award winning Writer 'Child's Play' films and 'Hannibal' TV series "Like a great rock song, this book stays in your head long after you finish it. Funny, macabre and fascinating!" - Jace Anderson, Co-Writer 'Mother of Tears' and 'Fractured' films "With backstories like these - Wilson's dad is a rockstar (The Ventures), Smith is a musician (Repo! The Genetic Opera) - their stories have to be great. And they are!" Bobby Smithe, Author 'Bowie Bible' "Fiery and fevered scribes Staci Layne Wilson and Darren Smith have delivered an anthology book devoted to rock n roll fuelled short stories which read as lyrical as the songs and music they pay tribute to. With an authentic and uncompromising dedication to musicians from decades past, Wilson and Smith deliver a highly energetic and equally nuanced set of stylish tales of obsession, cynicism, neurosis and rage - all driven by a street sensibility and catapulting from the varied voices of the angry outsider. Not to be missed!" - Lee Gambin, Author 'We Can Be Who We Are: Movie Musicals From the 70s' "This book shreds!" - Lisa S. Johnson, Photographer/Author '108 Rock Star Guitars' "Tales of the fantastic blended with the razor kiss of rock n roll." - Tristan Risk, Burlesque Icon 'Little Miss Risk'

Should she stay mortal and strengthen her connection to the werewolves, or leave it all behind to become a vampire? When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved? To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife have led her to the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or to pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fates of two tribes hangs. This astonishing, breathlessly anticipated conclusion to the Twilight Saga illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic. It's here! #1 bestselling author Stephenie Meyer makes a triumphant return to the world of Twilight with the highly anticipated companion, Midnight Sun: the iconic love story of Bella and Edward told from the vampire's point of view. "People do not want to just read Meyer's books; they want to climb inside them and live there." -- Time "A literary phenomenon." -- The New York Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A look at the development of the sport over the past six centuries. Once limited to trout and salmon, today fly-fishing techniques are used to catch every fish species from minnows to marlin in rivers, lakes and oceans from the Amazon to the Arctic. From the many thousands of fly patterns developed over the centuries, The History of Fly-Fishing in Fifty Flies focuses on fifty iconic flies chosen to represent the evolution not only of fishing flies and fly tying but also the sport itself. Filled with illustrations and photographs of the flies (the fifty are just the starting point—more than 200 flies are mentioned or shown in the book), as well as profiles of key characters, The History of Fly-Fishing in Fifty Flies charts the growth and diversification of this fascinating sport from the fifteenth century to the present day and its spread from Britain, Europe and Japan to North and South America, Australia and New Zealand, and now to every country in the world. The evolution of fly-fishing tackle—rods, reels, lines and hooks—is also covered in a series of essays spread throughout the book. Praise for The History of Fly-Fishing in Fifty Flies “A delightful ramble along the stream of fishing history.” —Star Tribune “This glorious book of lures will get you itching for a new toy, a new boat, a new rod—anything to experience the relaxation of this old hobby.” —Foreword Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories to Share with My Partner Book 2 is my second compilation of short stories and poems written in 2019 and 2020. The main reason for publishing these stories and poems is to again try, and I mean try, to make you smile and laugh at the outlandish storylines and to bring you a few minutes of fun. Once again, these stories should take you no longer than four minutes to read, so sit back and enjoy some very easy reading. From the first story, MY FIRST BOOK, which really got the whole idea of publishing in my mind to its fruition to SISTER KATE, based on a mostly true story in my youth. Ending with THE HAPPY VALLEY AGENCY FOR TIME TRAVEL, all these stories sprung from my mind during one of the many writing meetings I took part with a remarkable group of inspiring authors. Not to say that the story RETIREMENT PLAN did not cross my mind in my youth. Tell who you know that does not want an easier life if he/she can get away with it. My heroes in my youth arrive in my story SCIENCE FICTION WRITERS OF THE FUTURE. How I would love to have something like this happen in real life. Thank goodness for the imagination we humans have! My years at the orphanage are in some stories, for example, THE GREAT BATTLE and THE GREAT ESCAPE and THE MOST UNUSUAL JOB I EVER HAD actually happened but names have been change to protect many of those involved but if they purchase the book, they will see themselves and laugh. During my many trips into the city, the sounds of THE TRAIN JOURNEY came alive in my mind, so I had to put them down on paper. Going back to my youth, I based the story LISTEN TO YOUR HEART on a bullying moment that happen to me and stayed in my heart and soul ever since. Finally, the poem TWO OF ME reflects what many immigrants feel as they embrace their new lives. Once again, all these stories and poems are my attempts at the entertainment writing world. Do I succeed? Only you will know after reading the stories. Please shoot me a quick email at [email protected] and give me your thoughts. Thank you for your purchase and your support.

Book excerpt: John Dies at the End is a genre-bending, humorous account of two college drop-outs inadvertently charged with saving their small town--and the world--from a host of supernatural and paranormal invasions. Now a Major Motion Picture. "[Pargin] is like a mash-up of Douglas Adams and Stephen King... 'page-turner' is an understatement." —Don Coscarelli, director, Phantasm I-V, Bubba Ho-tep STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why? You just have to trust me. The important thing is this: The sauce is a drug, and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do. I'm sorry to have involved you in this, I really am. But as you read about these terrible events and the very dark epoch the world is about to enter as a result, it is crucial you keep one thing in mind: None of this was my fault.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A fascinating look at how consumers perceive logos, ads, commercials, brands, and products.”—Time How much do we know about why we buy? What truly influences our decisions in today’s message-cluttered world? In Buyology, Martin Lindstrom presents the astonishing findings from his groundbreaking three-year, seven-million-dollar neuromarketing study—a cutting-edge experiment that peered inside the brains of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world as they encountered various ads, logos, commercials, brands, and products. His startling results shatter much of what we have long believed about what captures our interest—and drives us to buy. Among the questions he explores: • Does sex actually sell? • Does subliminal advertising still surround us? • Can “cool” brands trigger our mating instincts? • Can our other senses—smell, touch, and sound—be aroused when we see a product? Buyology is a fascinating and shocking journey into the mind of today's consumer that will captivate anyone who's been seduced—or turned off—by marketers' relentless attempts to win our loyalty, our money, and our minds.

Book excerpt: Sergei Yesenin was a Russian poet who, in 1925, hanged himself after writing his farewell poem in blood. Jim Harrison's "correspondence" with Yesenin is an American masterwork. In the early 1970s, Harrison was living in poverty on a hard-scrabble farm, suffering from depression and suicidal urges. He began to write daily prose-poem letters to Yesenin, confiding to his unlikely friend about sex, drunkenness, family, politics - about living for another day. Although "the rope" remained ever present, Harrison listened to his poems: "My year-old daughter's red robe hangs from the doorknob shouting Stop."
