Eine Rekonstruktion dieser endemischen "Krise der Sprachwissenschaft" ware mehr als nlitz lich: Was heute als Konfrontation von sogenannteI' "harter" und "weicher" Sprachwissenschaft erscheint, steht der Konfronta tion VOl' 100 Jahren urn junggrammatischen "Positivismus" bzw. "Formalismus" gegenliber einer mehr ganzheitlichen bzw. kul turhistorischen Orientierung in nichts nach; sie reproduziert sich zykliseh unteI' gleichen Schlagworten in den Diskussionen nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg (Stichwort "idealistische Neuphilo logie"), in den 30er und 40er Jahren (Stichwort "Sprachso ziologie" bzw. "Sprachinhaltsforschung" gegenliber dem deskrip tiven Strukturalismus) und schlieBlich in den Debatten urn So ziolinguistik und "materialistische Sprachwissenschaft" gegen liber dem harten Kern der Grammatiktheorie seit dem Ende der 60er Jahre.
