Book excerpt: "It has become apparent that pharmacy education needs to respond to professional and social changes and renew its mission in terms of students and learning objectives. As such, this compilation presents approaches for bridging the theory-practice gap. Following this, the authors focus on pharmacists' role in oncology, and the current challenges and perspectives of pharmacist in oncology settings. Oncology pharmacists contribute to the rational use of chemotherapy and supportive drugs by providing individual pharmaceutical care plans for patients. Challenges in pharmacy education and practice in the Middle East are discussed, and the authors elaborate on specific frameworks for different sectors of pharmacy. It is also proposed that developing the pharmacist's role as a major part of the medical team could provide patients with the highest outcomes at the lowest cost. The objective of the closing review is to make a proposal for the implementation of the analysis of ethical, organisational, legal, social, environmental and other domains, in the studies of the health technology assessment agencies"--

Download or read book Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives. September 2018 written by Organizer Committee IPAP18 – Salamanca and published by Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca. This book was released on 2018-09-21 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the summaries of the "Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives" that took place in Salamanca (Spain) in September 2018. The early science of chemistry and microbiology were the source of most drugs until the revolution of genetic engineering in the mid 1970s. Then biotechnology made available novel protein agents such as interferons, blood factors and monoclonal antibodies that have changed the modern pharmacy. Over the past year, a new pharmacy of oligonucleotides has emerged from the science of gene expression such as RNA splicing and RNA interference. The ability to design therapeutic agents from genomic sequences will transform treatment for many diseases. The science that created this advance and its future promise will be discussed. Phillip Allen Sharp is an American geneticist and molecular biologist who co-discovered RNA splicing. He shared the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Richard J. Roberts for “the discovery that genes in eukaryotes are not contiguous strings but contain introns, and that the splicing of messenger RNA to delete those introns can occur in different ways, yielding different proteins from the same DNA sequence. He works in Institute Professor Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, US. UU.

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Updating and Innovating Health Professions Education: Post-Pandemic Perspectives written by Ford, Channing R. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The outbreak of the Coronavirus in early 2020 resulted in unprecedented changes to health professions education. The pervasive stay-at-home orders resulted in faculty, who were trained for preparing the next generation of health professionals in a traditional learning environment, throwing out their lesson plans and starting anew. New approaches to teaching and learning were created quickly, and without the typical extensive planning, which introduced several challenges. However, lessons learned from these approaches have also resulted in increased technology adoption, innovative assessment strategies, and increased creativity in the learning environment. The Handbook of Research on Updating and Innovating Health Professions Education: Post-Pandemic Perspectives explores the various teaching and learning strategies utilized during the pandemic and the innovative approaches implemented to evaluate student learning outcomes and best practices in non-traditional academic situations and environments. The chapters focus specifically on lessons learned and best practices in health professions education and the innovative and exciting changes that occurred particularly with the adoption and implementation of technology. It provides resources and strategies that can be implemented into the current educational environments and into the future. This book is ideal for inservice and preservice teachers, administrators, teacher educators, practitioners, medical trainers, medical professionals, researchers, academicians, and students interested in curriculum, course design, development of policies and procedures within academic programs, and the identification of best practices in health professions education.
