Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literature Review from the year 2016 in the subject Biology - Miscellaneous, grade: 1, course: MASTERS OF DENTAL SURGERY, language: English, abstract: Tissue engineering applies the principles of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering for the development of substitutes that replace, repair or enhance the biological function of diseased and damaged human body parts, by manipulating cells via their extracellular microenvironment. This three dimensional extracellular architecture ("scaffold") can be fabricated in the shape of the tissue we want to restore, with the help of either polymer hydrogel, self-assembly, non- woven matrix, nano-fibrous electrospun matrices, 3D weaving, or any other textile technology-based techniques, depending upon their structural and functional requirements. This concept in periodontics began with guided tissue regeneration, a mechanical approach utilizing non-resorbable membranes to regenerate periodontal defects. In dental implantology, guided bone regeneration membranes, with or without mechanical support, are used for bone augmentation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long-term success of periodontal therapy is dependent on proper diagnosis and removal of subgingival tooth-borne accretions in the form of calculus and bacteria. From a clinical perspective, better visualization during the diagnostic and therapeutic phases has been shown to yield better results compared to traditional approaches. Minimally Invasive Periodontal Therapy evaluates the advantages of using minimal invasive techniques, the technologies available for enhancing visualization during minimally invasive therapy, and step-by-step illustrates the clinical use of each technique. Each chapter addresses the advantages and disadvantages of minimally invasive therapies, rationale for the approach, and the advantages and limitations of each of the current methods of improving visualization. The chapters then provide an evidence-based review of the technologies and procedures, and end with case studies for each visualization procedure, featuring clinical photographs.

This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the goals of periodontal therapy is to regenerate lost supporting structures that have been destroyed by periodontal disease. Treatment procedures including various bone grafts, guided tissue regeneration, use of enamel matrix derivative, or combinations of the aforementioned have been suggested as regenerative periodontal therapies to achieve this goal. Enamel matrix derivative is composed of a number of proteins, 90% of which are amelogenins, and these proteins are thought to induce the formation of periodontal attachment during tooth formation. Previous reports have shown that enamel matrix derivative was able to improve clinical attachment level and reduce probing depth. The results of previous controlled clinical trials have shown that using enamel matrix derivative in combination with bovine porous bone mineral may enhance the regenerative outcome with regard to the clinical attachment level gain compared with using the enamel matrix derivative alone. In this chapter, an extensive review of the role of enamel matrix derivate will be performed using in vitro and in vivo studies. Clinical implications of the enamel matrix derivative will also be discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book equips dental care providers with a thorough understanding of the emerging therapies that promise to revolutionize the clinical management of periodontal diseases. Existing therapies targeted to the oral microbiome alone often fail to provide favorable clinical outcomes. Local inflammation and tissue destruction may persist and periodontal tissue regeneration is not predictably achieved. In recognition of these shortcomings, current research efforts are focused on understanding the biological interactions between the host and the resident microbiome and identifying key molecules and molecular pathways that can be used for more targeted, individualized therapies that will restrain oral inflammation and restore periodontal tissue homeostasis. This book introduces novel concepts and molecules that are currently being tested in preclinical and clinical models. Readers will find detailed information from leading experts on specific therapeutic strategies targeting the host immune and inflammatory system, the oral microbiome, and regeneration.

Optical devices in the diagnosis and management of the disease are also discussed. The book addresses the role of the oral healthcare provider in interprofessional communication in the systemic management of autoimmune bullous disease-associated conditions. A study involving chemically modified tetracyclines and host modulation with nonsurgical and surgical periodontal therapy, including postoperative pain management, is presented here. Therapeutic strategies of stem cell application in bone tissue engineering and the potential of platelet-rich fibrin-sourced growth factors in periodontal procedures to enhance wound healing and regeneration are also proposed. Supportive implant maintenance and regenerative processes are explored. Management of the endoperiodontal lesion is also discussed (note: the recent periodontal classification has not been referenced here). The book explores the best transdisciplinary practices for the management of special healthcare needs patients.
