Download or read book Cold-recycled Bituminous Concrete Using Bituminous Materials written by Jon A. Epps and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, construction engineers, and others interested in economical methods for reconstructing or rehabilitating bituminous pavements. Information is provided on the processes and procedures used by a number of states to recycle asphalt pavements in place without application of heat. Since 1975 a growing number of state highway agencies have reconstructed or rehabilitated asphalt pavements by recycling the old pavement in place. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the processes used for cold in-place recycling, including construction procedures, mix designs, mixture properties, performance, and specifications.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of the Cost Benefits of Continuous Pavement Preservation Design Strategies Versus Reconstruction by :
Download or read book Evaluation of the Cost Benefits of Continuous Pavement Preservation Design Strategies Versus Reconstruction written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continued preservation of ADOT's pavements becomes an ever- increasing issue as non-renewable resources such as mineral aggregate become more and more difficult to obtain. Historically, ADOT's design philosophies have resulted in strategies that consist primarily of mill and fill and overlay. These pavement strategies are designed for approximately a ten year life, at which time, another similar treatment would be performed. Proper design philosophies evaluate life cycle costs to select the best available design option. However, the life cycle cost consists of both the construction cost and the user cost incurred by the public through delay, etc. While construction costs are easily defined, user costs are very difficult to quantify and often times may actually exceed the actual cost of the facility being constructed. Since the user costs are not directly borne by the agency, it becomes somewhat of a philosophical discussion as to what user costs should be considered. In recent times, mineral aggregate sources have become increasingly more difficult to obtain in Arizona. However, our current design philosophies and economics requires needing new materials approximately every ten years. There is a need to consider reconstruction of significant roadways so that they can obtain design lives, perhaps as many as thirty to forty years before rehabilitation or reconstruction.

Book Synopsis Best Management Practices for Environmental Issues Related to Highway and Street Maintenance by : William Albert Hyman
Download or read book Best Management Practices for Environmental Issues Related to Highway and Street Maintenance written by William Albert Hyman and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to state, local, and federal agency environmental and maintenance administrators, directors, supervisors, engineers, and scientists. It describes current best management practices (BMPs) for environmental issues related to road and street maintenance. The synthesis documents relevant background and recent information with regard to management practices that can help protect, preserve, or enhance the environment while at the same time allow road maintenance organizations to carry out their fundamental mission of maintenance and repair in a cost-effective manner. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S. and Canadian state and local transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search using domestic sources. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes BMPs consisting of broad management approaches applicable to the entire maintenance program or to more than one program area. In addition, BMPs for specific maintenance activities or groups of maintenance activities are included. Finally, BMPs concerning specific environmental issues are discussed.
