Book excerpt: If you’re wondering if God can truly move in the life of someone with all the odds stacked against her, look no further than Tori Hope Petersen. Tori grew up in the foster care system, a bi-racial child in a confusing and volatile world. Growing up with a mentally ill mother and living in twelve different foster homes, nothing was in her favor. And yet, even with a minuscule chance of graduating college and a great risk of being homeless, jobless, and on drugs, Tori overcame every negative stereotype and assumption that attacked her identity. However, Tori will tell you she did not overcome. Christ did. In the face of the storm, Jesus made a way for Tori to find profound hope, deep faith, renewed purpose, and a loving family, too. After so many years of being on one side of foster care as a child, Tori is now on the other side as a foster mom, adoptive mom, and biological mom. On top of that, she became a Track and Field All-American in college and now works with nonprofits, ministries, and beyond advocating for foster care reform, adoption advocacy, and help for vulnerable populations. If you want to hear the true tale of an unlikely overcomer, this book is for you. If you want to learn more about the foster care system from a former foster youth’s perspective, this book is for you. If you want to better dwell in the reality of your own spiritual adoption by our Heavenly Father and better understand the orphan and the widow that He loves dearly, this book is for you. Ultimately, if you want to remember who God is, and what He can do through the most unlikely of people, Fostered is for you.

Book excerpt: Faith to Foster is a candid look into the life of ordinary foster parents TJ and Jenn Menn. It is a journey chronicling their decision making process, how the children arrived, the birth parents struggle to rehabilitate, help from friends and family, emotional goodbyes, and how faith in Jesus empowered them through it all. This is a story they wished they’d read before starting their foster parenting adventure. TJ and Jenn share their experiences and feelings in a way that encourages any reader to serve their neighbors, not just foster parents. Faith to Foster reminds Christians how God can use them to make a difference in their community.

Replanted takes an honest look at the joys and hardships that come with choosing this journey and provides a model of faith-based support made up of three parts to help families thrive: Soil, Sunlight, and Water. Soil, or emotional support, addresses the need for grace-filled settings where families can connect with other families who understand their experience. Sunlight, or informational support, focuses on obtaining helpful training to raise children who may have unique needs or challenges. Water, or tangible support, deals with concrete resources such as medical care, child care, and financial support. Throughout the book, the Replanted model is brought to life by stories and examples based on the clinical work and personal experiences of the authors. Their candid insight will serve families who are actively involved in adoption or foster care, as well as people who are eager to help support those families. Replanted affirms that with the right support system in place, parents can answer this sacred call not only with open hearts but also with their eyes wide open.

Book excerpt: Foster Care is at the heart of the Gospel. It’s easy to start, highly rewarding, and unlocks spiritual growth you never knew possible! The fact is, you are called by God to stand in the gap for vulnerable children in your community every day that need hope. You are heroic when you provide a safe home or even just simple supplies to a child that has nothing. To them, you are their hero! Dr. Bob Griffith and his wife Wendy tell their story of how God started a wave of impact in their church and community when they decided to obey James 1:27 and live out true religion. Through their story of loss, redemption, and miraculous conformation, you will be encouraged to help vulnerable children today and not wait for tomorrow. You will see how through foster care; you will live out the heart of the gospel in a fresh way and learn more about who God is than ever before! Every church wants to change their city in the name of Christ, but the question is how? The Griffith’s share how a few families stepped out in faith to foster children and their example started a movement within their church. As a result of their efforts, 30% of all the foster families in their county attended their local church. They provide real systems, scholarly research, and solutions used over 10 years that will help churches be a hero in their community through foster care ministry. The Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) believes that when every church and Christian does something to support foster children, the church will change the world!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anna Chandler, born Anna Louise Higginbotham, is a native Marylander and mother of six, including a set of triplet boys. She lived, worked, and raised her family before opening a family day care in 1985, which began her journey in education. Anna moved to Oregon in 1997, and even though her children are now grown with their own families, she continues in the education field as an administrative assistant in a public school system, but Anna's true love and hobby is singing. In 1991, Anna began journaling what she could remember of her childhood in foster care. She wrote and continued to write everything she could remember for years. One day, Anna awakened to a voice telling her to complete the manuscript, and she knew that it was the voice of the Holy Spirit. In her heart, she knew that it was time to share her story and that if God brought her to it, he would bring her through it. Anna searched the web and found Christian Faith Publishing and decided to contact them to see if her book would be good enough to make the mark. To her surprise, the manuscript was approved for publishing, and the rest is history. The work itself has taken Anna to another level in God, and she knows that this is just the beginning. From Foster Care to Faith will be a spiritually encouraging addition to your home library, and I hope you enjoy it. All glory to God!

Book excerpt: Though the words "foster care" are not in the Bible, the act of caring for the vulnerable is clearly important to God. Perhaps nowhere is that kind of tender attention and care for the vulnerable more evident than in the act of fostering a child. But as foster parents pour themselves into the children God has called them to care for, they may find themselves feeling emptied, in need of being refreshed and reinvigorated for the day to come. With 60 devotions written especially for foster parents by a foster parent, Filled offers a special boost of spiritual energy and encouragement particular to the unique joys and challenges faced by those who open their homes and hearts to kids in need of love. Each reading includes Scripture, a real-life anecdote from the author's experience as a foster parent, an explanation of the biblical text, and suggestions for continued reading.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a very unique story. I grew up in the foster care system in the state of Alabama until being adopted at age twelve. Eighteen years later my life came full circle as my wife and I officially became foster parents to three beautiful children. While they were in our care, I got deployed to Afghanistan with the air force, and my wife had our firstborn biological child while I was overseas! On January 29, 2016, twenty-two years after I got adopted out of foster care, my life came full circle again as my wife and I adopted those three children out of foster care! While deployed, I wrote most of my book, My Full Life Circle Squared, which came out on Veterans Day, November 11, which was also National Adoption Month. It is a foster care/adoption story, but it is also a military story as well. Some of the real and significant sacrifices of our military members do, indeed, endure. This is a very inspirational story blessed by God! I have many life experiences that so many people can relate to. I talk about sleeping in the back of cars, not having my father in my life, getting married to my middle-school sweetheart, us having three miscarriages, being in foster care, getting adopted, being a foster parent, being an adoptive parent, money, and much more! I hope my story paints the picture of the providence of God and his will in my life and how he put me in foster care so that one day I could, indeed, inspire, encourage, motivate, and minister to others! I encourage others to help fatherless children by considering fostering/adoption and encourage our military as well! I will be donating a portion of all proceeds to foster/adoption and military charities!
