Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The peer-to-peer (P2P) training approach involves small groups of people from similar social groupings, who are not professional teachers, helping each other to learn. The P2P approach has great potential for rapidly identifying emerging lessons learned and integrating them into wide-reaching Army training. The present research identified the instructional principles and best practices for P2P from academia, industry, and the military supporting effective P2P training and incorporated them into a Soldier-friendly facilitator?s guide. A formative evaluation was conducted with Soldiers using the guide to prepare and conduct group discussions for a face-to-face group setting and a distributed group setting where Soldiers were linked via video teleconference. One group of Soldiers served as ?facilitators? and used the facilitator?s guide to prepare and lead discussions with other Soldiers who served as ?learners.? Feedback on the guide was mostly positive with Soldiers indicating that the guide provided an appropriate amount of information and a usable format and tools for structuring and fostering group discussions. Ongoing efforts to transition P2P methods into Army training are discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how LIS schools and professional organizations can help information professionals to continue their education after finishing formal programs to keep up with the growing demands of the field. As technology rapidly advances, the need for continuing education increases at an accelerating rate. Within 10–12 years of completing formal education, most information professionals' knowledge and skills become out of date, leaving them only half as able to meet the new demands of the profession. Additionally, the increase in online education programs for LIS students can limit their connection with practicing professionals and, in some locations, their engagement with diverse populations. LIS schools and professional development organizations, however, can support professional development in new and exciting ways. Readers will learn how faculty in LIS schools are innovating their courses and providing continuing education experiences. Taking advantage of the benefits of online, digital, and experiential learning projects, they are creating meaningful, collaborative learning opportunities between students and practitioners in the field. The book also addresses how social media tools can help online students experience interactive community learning and network within the profession before they start their positions.

Book excerpt: In The Facilitator’s Guide to Immersive, Blended, and Hybrid Learning, veteran virtual trainer and learning tech maven Cindy Huggett examines the role of a facilitator in immersive, blended, and hybrid learning environments and offers cutting-edge insights and practical advice on how facilitators can make programs effective and engaging in any scenario. She introduces the new learning experience facilitator role and the skills needed to be successful in today’s modern learning environments. While the shift from traditional classrooms to immersive learning experiences (including immersive, blended, virtual, and hybrid) has exploded in recent years, the supporting technologies and techniques have been evolving over time and now include augmented, mixed, and virtual realities. In fact, immersive, blended, and hybrid learning have become the new reality of training. Cindy walks you through how to facilitate in each of these modalities, covering everything from technology needs to suggested modifications of activities. Throughout, she includes real-life examples of immersive, blended, augmented, virtual, and hybrid learning in action. And she asks the vital question: Is facilitation necessary in immersive learning experiences? The answer is yes, but to be successful, facilitators need to update their skills on an ongoing basis. Prepare yourself with the skills and knowledge to navigate the new world of learning and to make your facilitation shine.

Book excerpt: This book contains information and skill-building activities designed to train adolescents as peer facilitators. The first chapter describes peer facilitation and provides an overview of the book. The second chapter discusses principles, concepts, and ideas to help better understand how people learn, make decisions, change, and develop their own unique personalities. The third chapter describes the process of attentive listening. The fourth chapter discusses the skills and intuitive elements needed for the facilitator to increase the chances that the helping conditions will be present and that the relationship will be beneficial. The fifth chapter describes a facilitative feedback model. The value of feedback, feedback as praise, feedback as confrontation, direct and indirect feedback, and using feedback in a group are discussed. The sixth chapter examines responsible decision-making. A five-step model is presented which can serve as a guide in decision-making. The seventh chapter addresses the evaluation process. Assessment of self and others is discussed as information needed to evaluate progress, make adjustments when necessary, give direction, and eventually help group members understand more about their work. The eighth chapter focuses on practical aspects of being a peer facilitator. Three peer facilitator roles are described, and possible work settings are described. The ninth chapter provides information for handling problem moments as a peer facilitator. (LLL)

Book excerpt: Bringing together narratives and theory-based analyses of practice, this volume illustrates collaborative curricular and co-curricular approaches to promoting vocational discernment amongst students in a Catholic university setting. Drawing on cultural, religious, and secular understandings of vocation, Engaging with Vocation on Campus illustrates how contemporary issues around vocation, work, and careers can be addressed within the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition. Chapters presents a range of contributions from students, faculty, and staff from a single institution to highlight practical approaches to supporting students in this area, and acknowledge the complementary and intersecting roles played by student support services, academic staff, and on-campus ministry in helping students develop an individualised understanding of vocation. Considering the value of both curricular or non-curricular activities and processes, the volume highlights spiritual, personal, and community value in offering students explicit and tailored support. This text will benefit researchers, academics, and educators with an interest in higher education, religious education, and the Christian life and experience more broadly. Those specifically interested in career guidance, theological curriculum and pedagogy, and Roman Catholicism will also benefit from this book.
