This book was released on 2005-07-09 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PAVE PAWS is a phased-array warning system designed to detect and track sea-launched and intercontinental ballistic missiles operated on Cape Cod since 1979 by the U.S. Air Force Space Command. In 1979, the National Research Council issued two reports to address concerns from Cape Cod residents about the safety and possible health effects of the radiofrequency energy from the radar. Following up on the1979 report, the new report finds no evidence of adverse health effects to Cape Cod residents from long-term exposure to the PAVE PAWS radar. The report specifically investigated whether the PAVE PAWS radar might be responsible in part for the reported higher rates of certain cancers in the area, but concludes there is no increase in the total number of cancers or in specific cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, or colon due to radiation exposure from PAVE PAWS. The report did find in the scientific literature a few biological responses to radiofrequency exposures that were statistically significant. Such responses do not necessarily result in adverse health effects, but the report recommends additional studies to better discern the significance, if any, of those findings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examine the strong evidence of this unrealized pain management tool Cholecystokinin (CCK), the regulatory peptide hormone found primarily in the gastrointestinal tract that works as a neurotransmitter throughout the nervous system, has been researched for years. CCK antagonists in conjunction with opioids are beginning to be seen as having possible major therapeutic benefits in pain management. Cholecystokinin and Its Antagonists in Pain Management is an extensive examination that gathers the mounting compelling evidence into one comprehensive source. Here researchers, neuroscientists, physicians, and pharmacy professionals are given the research and findings they need to explore the possible applications of CCK antagonists for a variety of illnesses. Cholecystokinin and Its Antagonists in Pain Management extensively describes opioids in pain management, CCK and the body’s uses for the chemical, CCK receptor antagonists, and the evidence that points to its being a possible breakthrough application in pain management. Various animal studies are offered that present a convincing view of what may be the future of chronic pain management, with less side effects and a reduction in analgesic tolerance than when opioids are used alone. Potential uses of CCK antagonists are clearly discussed. The book is comprehensively referenced and provides several tables and graphs to fully illustrate the research findings. Topics in Cholecystokinin and Its Antagonists in Pain Management include: in vivo localization of CCK CCK as a gut and nervous system peptide factors that increase CCK anti-opioid effects CCK receptor antagonists pro-analgesic effect of CCK antagonists CCK antagonists reducing analgesic tolerance to opioids safety of combining opioids and CCK antagonists human clinical application of CCK antagonists Cholecystokinin and Its Antagonists in Pain Management is a crucial source of the latest information and research results on CCK that is certain to be important for neuroscientists, clinicians, and pharmaceutical industry professionals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed review of the modern theories dealing with the structure and properties of water. It also presents an analysis of the research on the effect of activated water on biological systems such as animals, microorganisms, and plants. The results of experiments on the influence of activated water on “pure” microbiological cultures and their natural associations are described, the studies being carried out under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The results demonstrate a significant influence of activated water on higher plants (vegetable crops), sterile plants, and callus tissues. It is shown that the activation of water under definite conditions gives rise to the appearance of very strong bactericidal properties: activated water inhibits the development of pathogenic microbiological cultures by tens and hundreds of times more strongly, and can be used for sterilization. In addition, a potent positive effect of activated water on the prevention and treatment of cancer in mice has been observed, and its efficacy compared to that of chemotherapy is discussed in the book. The information provided in this book is supported by intensive experimental data and developed theories. The research programs were conducted at the authors' laboratories in Ukraine and Russia as well as at research facilities located in the USA.
