Book Synopsis Wittgenstein and Interreligious Disagreement by : Gorazd Andrejč
Download or read book Wittgenstein and Interreligious Disagreement written by Gorazd Andrejč and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book critically examines three distinct interpretations of Ludwig Wittgenstein, those of George Lindbeck, David Tracy, and David Burrell, while paying special attention to the topic of interreligious disagreement. In theological and philosophical work on interreligious communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein has been interpreted in very different, sometimes contradicting ways. This is partly due to the nature of Wittgenstein’s philosophical investigation, which does not consist of a theory nor does it posit theses about religion, but includes several, varying conceptions of religion. In this volume, Gorazd Andrejč illustrates how assorted uptakes of Wittgenstein’s conceptions of religion, and the differing theological perspectives of the authors who formulated them, shape interpretations of interreligious disagreement and dialogue. Inspired by selected perspectives from Tillichian philosophical theology, the book suggests a new way of engaging both descriptive and normative aspects of Wittgenstein’s conceptions of religion in the interpretation of interreligious disagreement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastoral care and its theology get a gentle boost from some of the best in the business of caring for the soul. When a person hurts, they often look to God. Several pathfinders give new light from their specialties, each one speaking powerfully, uniquely, and artfully from decades of experience. Dr. Amos Yong’s article on disability forwards the amazingly helpful term, “temporarily able-bodied.” Greek Orthodox Dr. Vasileios Thermos and Roman Catholic Dr. Robert Fastiggi enlighten next to the powerful testaments of Professor Godfrey Harold on South Africa and Dr. Samuel Yonas Deressa on Ethiopia. Each weathered author contributes universal insights into the grace of our great God and challenges pastors throughout the Christian world to kindly consider the heart of the afflicted. These finely hewn stones can be used by anyone in the ministry to sharpen their serve. Mattis and Maness offer this third collection from Testamentum Imperium with a prayer that these will open new avenues of sensitivity to the hearts and souls of those in travail and aid those who are called by God to serve those in pain.

Download or read book Paul Tillich written by A. James Reimer and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2004 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays considers various aspects of Paul Tillich's theology of nature, culture, and politics in relation to major theological movements, thinkers, and events of the twentieth century. These essays are not purely an exercise in historical theology but an apology for Tillich's theological, philosophical, and ethical project. The underlying assumption is that Tillich's theology, both in form and content, is worth reading and learning from in the modern and postmodern era, even though we inhabit today an intellectual environment not very amenable to Tillich's form of mediation.

Download or read book Playful, Glad, and Free written by Jessica DeCou and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical analysis and reinterpretation of Karl Barth's theology of culture-the least studied aspect of his work-revealing his significance for contemporary work in theology of culture by applying his approach to the study of popular culture and entertainment. Grounding the study in Barth's eschatology, which proves more amenable to secular culture than other models, DeCou shows that Barth's approach recognized that the freedom of theology is qualified by the freedom of the Word and the freedom of secular culture. Barth therefore offers a "middle way" for evaluating and analyzing culture and religious forms. This book thus opens up a new avenue of interpretation of Barth and applies the insights of Barth's theology in fresh ways to the structures of contemporary culture and its products.

Book Synopsis Barth: A Guide for the Perplexed by : Paul T. Nimmo
Download or read book Barth: A Guide for the Perplexed written by Paul T. Nimmo and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Barth is perhaps the most influential Protestant theologian of the twentieth century. This Guide to his thought, written by one of the leading scholars of Barth, offers a concise but comprehensive introduction to his theology. The first chapter of the book considers the life and work of Karl Barth. Thereafter, the chapters examine in turn the key theological topics which Barth treated in his magnum opus, the Church Dogmatics – the doctrine of the Word of God, the doctrine of God, the doctrine of creation, and the doctrine of reconciliation. In each case, the theological path which Barth follows is first traced and then illuminated, recognising key lines of critique at appropriate junctures. The final chapter considers the legacy of the work of Barth, and the book closes with a list of suggestions for further reading. This structure follows the series format of the Bloomsbury T&T Clark Guides for the Perplexed, and offer a clear and accessible introduction to Barth's thought.
