Signs start gradually, barely noticeable and worsen over time. The complaints are due to a loss of nerve cells (neurons) that produce a chemical messenger in the brain called dopamine. When dopamine levels decrease, it causes abnormal brain activity. Symptoms often begin on one side of your body and usually remain worse on that side, even after symptoms begin to affect both sides. In the early stages of Parkinson's disease, your face may show little or no expression. Your arms may not swing when you walk. Your speech may become softly, monotone and slurred. Further symptoms include rigid, painful and stiff muscles, stooped posture and balance problems, slowed movement and shorter steps when you walk, it may become hard to write, and your writing may appear small, a tremor, or shaking in a limb, hand or fingers. In this homeopathic and naturopathic adviser, I will give you recommendations how to treat and prevent Parkinson's disease with Homeopathy, Schuessler salts and herbal tinctures. I will present you the most proven homeopathic remedies and Schuessler salts, including the appropriate potency and dosage. Naturopathy works holistically. It does not treat single symptoms only. It treats the whole body, mind and soul. I wish you much success, joy in life and especially your health.

The exact etiological cause of the disease is still unknown in light of orthodox medicine, but in homeopathic medical science the concept of constitutional treatment and miasmatic diagnosis hold strong ground to diagnose the disease before the pathological process of disease is established. Homeopathic philosophy and therapeutics have strong and promising potential to help and treat the disease. In this work an introduction has been provided regarding homeopathic aids.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient Indian scriptures are rooted in the sciences, philosophy, and religion. They often pre-date many of the contemporary sources of scientific and medical discoveries. The Ayurveda is a particular scripture and literary chronicle that covers numerous ailments of the human body and various types of neurological diseases (Vata Rogas in Sanskrit). Ayurveda, which is a subsection of the Vedas, is arguably one of the oldest forms of scriptures dating back 5000 to 3000 BC (the exact date is not known). This particular exploration will focus on the specific evolution of Parkinson's Disease (Kampavata in Sanskrit) through the lenses of the Hindu scriptures (homeopathic) and modern-day medicine/research (allopathic). Parkinson's Disease or PD is most common type of Parkinsonism, is an umbrella term for the many manifestations of the disease. The hallmark cardinal clinical features of PD are: 1) slowness of movement (bradykinesia); 2) stiffness or increased muscle tone (rigidity); 3) tremor that occurs at rest (resting tremors). The most common form is called idiopathic Parkinson's Disease or PD which is addressed in Vedic scriptures along with the various symptoms of this disease. To capture the pathogenesis of this disorder, it is vital to look at the imbalances that occur naturally at the time of Parkinsonism. The rapid degeneration of dopamine neurons (In Ayurveda; imbalance of the bio-entity/brain) and its treatment can clearly be seen in the homeopathic approach taken by Ayurveda. Unlike the homeopathic medicine, modern research is currently focusing on classifying the various stages of Parkinsonism and non-motor symptoms for early diagnostic and treatment plans. There is clear evidence to suggest that homeopathic medicine from ancient Hindu scriptures, studies by Galen and James Parkinson, plus modern research can provide a more holistic approach to the evolution of the neurological movement disorder of Parkinson's Disease.

It is very rich in natural levodopa that is better tolerated and more potent than the synthetic levodopa in Sinemet or Stalevo. Two prestigious neurologists have patented extracts of mucuna seeds as a treatment for Parkinson's. Meanwhile, patients have recorded their positive experiences with mucuna; they buy it online (no prescription needed) and use it in secrecy without consulting their neurologist. Neither the patients nor the doctors (most of them) have clear ideas about this plant, its ingredients (not only levodopa), the proportions in which it is absorbed, or how to manage it. "Mucuna versus Parkinson: Natural Levodopa Treatment" is so far the most complete and up-to-date monograph on the subject, it describes the theoretical and practical approaches to the use of this plant as a treatment option for Parkinson's disease. Also included are more than one hundred of references.

This book was released on 2019-01-07 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders and it is caused by a loss of dopamine (DA) producing neurons in the basal ganglia in the brain. The PD patient suffers from motor symptoms such as tremor, bradykinesia and rigidity and treatment with levodopa (LD), the precursor of DA, has positive effects on these symptoms. Several factors affect the availability of orally given LD. Gastric emptying (GE) is one factor and it has been shown to be delayed in PD patients resulting in impaired levodopa uptake. Different enzymes metabolize LD on its way from the gut to the brain resulting in less LD available in the brain and more side effects from the metabolites. By adding dopa decarboxylase inhibitors (carbidopa or benserazide) or COMT-inhibitors (e.g. entacapone) the bioavailability of LD increases significantly and more LD can pass the blood-brain-barrier and be converted to DA in the brain. It has been considered of importance to avoid high levodopa peaks in the brain because this seems to induce changes in postsynaptic dopaminergic neurons causing disabling motor complications in PD patients. More continuously given LD, e.g. duodenal or intravenous (IV) infusions, has been shown to improve these motor complications. Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN DBS) has also been proven to improve motor complications and to make it possible to reduce the LD dosage in PD patients. In this doctoral thesis the main purpose is to study the pharmacokinetics of LD in patients with PD and motor complications; in blood and subcutaneous tissue and study the effect of GE and PD stage on LD uptake and the effect of continuously given LD (CDS) on LD uptake and GE; in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) when adding the peripheral enzyme inhibitors entacapone and carbidopa to LD infusion IV; in brain during STN DBSand during oral or IV LD treatment. To conclude, LD uptake is more favorable in PD patients with less severe disease and GE is delayed in PD patients. No obvious relation between LD uptake and GE or between GE and PD stage is seen and CDS decreases the LD levels. Entacapone increases the maximal concentration of LD in blood and CSF. This is more evident with additional carbidopa and important to consider in avoiding high LD peaks in brain during PD treatment. LD in brain increases during both oral and IV LD treatment and the DA levels follows LD well indicating that PD patients still have capacity to metabolize LD to DA despite probable pronounced nigral degeneration. STN DBS seems to increase putaminal DA levels and together with IV LD treatment also increases LD in brain possibly explaining why it is possible to decrease LD medication after STN DBS surgery. Kontinuerligt given LD minskar LDnivåerna.

Book excerpt: This volume includes the full Health Technology Assessment (HTA) report on effectiveness, appropriateness, safety and costs of homoeopathy in health care. The report was commissioned by the Swiss health authorities to inform decision-making on the further inclusion of homoeopathy in the list of services covered by statutory health insurance. Other studies carried out as part of the Swiss Complementary Medicine Evaluation Programme (PEK) caused a massive stir due to their schematic and exclusively quantitative (negative-)outcomes for homoeopathy. The present report, in contrast, offers a differentiated evaluation of the practice of homoeopathy in health care. It confirms homoeopathy as a valuable addition to the conventional medical landscape – a status it has been holding for a long time in practical health care.

Book excerpt: John Coleman was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease while studying to be a naturopath, and banished all the frustrating symptoms of this cruel condition from his body ... naturally! His new book equips those diagnosed with the knowledge needed to reverse their Parkinson's disease symptoms and even recover, using completely natural means. Rethinking Parkinson's Disease traces known pathways leading to a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, together with strategies to reverse each pathway. It includes the best evidence from Western allopathic medicine and complementary/alternative medicine in discovering how and why people with Parkinson's develop symptoms, the diagnostic process, standard treatments and prognoses offered by expert practitioners, and ongoing research. The book presents strategies that have been shown, clinically or in research, to improve the health of people with Parkinson's, with the possibility of reversing symptoms. A major section of this work details strategies to create wellness, many available to patients at little or no cost. There are sections on symptom control, complementary medical treatments and therapies to avoid. The book is aimed primarily at people with Parkinson's, families and supporters, and may be used as a self-help book, including advice on building a team of supportive practitioners. There are also suggestions and advice for both Western allopathic medicine and complementary/alternative medicine practitioners to enhance their care of patients with a Parkinson's disease diagnosis, so it may be used as a handbook for practitioners wishing to move away from the standard conservative view of Parkinson's disease as an "incurable" disease.

Book excerpt: A Top 10 Science Book of Fall 2015 - Publishers Weekly A star science journalist with Parkinson's reveals the inner workings of this perplexing disease Seven million people worldwide suffer from Parkinson's, and doctors, researchers, and patients continue to hunt for a cure. In Brain Storms, the award-winning journalist Jon Palfreman tells their story, a story that became his own when he was diagnosed with the debilitating illness. Palfreman chronicles how scientists have worked to crack the mystery of what was once called the shaking palsy, from the earliest clinical descriptions of tremors, gait freezing, and micrographia to the cutting edge of neuroscience, and charts the victories and setbacks of a massive international effort to best the disease. He takes us back to the late 1950s and the discovery of L-dopa. He delves into a number of other therapeutic approaches to this perplexing condition, from partial lobotomies and deep brain stimulation to neural grafting. And he shares inspiring stories of brave individuals living with Parkinson's, from a former professional ballet dancer who tricks her body to move freely again to a patient who cannot walk but astounds doctors when he is able to ride a bicycle with no trouble at all. With the baby boom generation beginning to retire and the population steadily aging, the race is on to discover a means to stop or reverse neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Brain Storms is the long-overdue, riveting, and deeply personal story of that race, and a passionate, insightful, and urgent look into the lives of those affected.
