The study will use interviews, a focused group, and document analysis in collecting data. The study will implement the modified van Kaam approach from a phenomenological perspective to analyze the data.

Book excerpt: This exploratory study investigates how American and Canadian parents living in Saudi Arabia perceive enrolling their children in an online virtual school. This research is relevant to North Americans living and working overseas and how these parents access educational opportunities for their children. North American parents living in Saudi Arabia with children have limited local educational options. If parents decided not to enroll their child in traditional private local international education, alternatives include boarding school, homeschool, or online school. Of the surveyed participants, 68% of parents had enrolled their children in online education or expressed interest in enrolling their children in online education but many lack information and knowledge about online education. A qualitative study analyzed participants in semi-structured interviews. Besides academic satisfaction, the most common reasons for alternative education are the lack of available competitive sports and the arts, including theatre and music. Four themes emerged from the data. Parent satisfaction about their children's education shifts from positive to negative around 8th or 9th grade. Parents are, in general, unwilling to take a risk on an unproven online school. Local private international schools are the focal point of extra-curricular activities and social events, but families lack connections and a supportive environment within the local Saudi Arabian community. Overall, parents do view full-time online education as a viable option for K-12 education; however, perhaps not for their children. Though standalone online classes, within a traditional face-to-face school, was received positively by many families.

Schools, along with businesses and public venues around the world shut their doors in order to attempt to slow the spread of the virus. Just because the brick-and-mortar buildings were being closed did not mean that schooling would stop. Teachers and students from around the globe transitioned to online or virtual instruction in an attempt to continue educating the future generations. Prior to that time only 3% of primary schools in the United States offered any course entirely online to students according to the National Center for Educational Statistics (2018). Through a quantitative approach, this research study focuses on the perceptions of online learning versus traditional in person instruction of teachers and parents in grades kindergarten through six. A survey was sent out to three school districts in Northeast Arkansas to gain insight on what it has been like for teachers and parents of elementary age students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the survey showed no statistical significance as both teachers and parents strongly perceived face-to-face instruction as opposed to online instruction for K-6 students as the preferred and effective method of instruction.

Book excerpt: By the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, the COVID-19 pandemic had disrupted the academic experience of 1.5 billion students in 165 countries (Early Childhood Education Journal, 2020). Due to school closures, many schools transitioned to distance learning. As students were adapting to a new learning environment, parents faced the challenge of providing a high-quality learning environment and ensuring children's learning and academic attainment. The study was part of a larger project, and this thesis took a preliminary approach and conducted a cross-country comparison between the United States (U.S.) and Finland on parental perceptions of the distance learning experience with regard to family socioeconomic status (SES), as measured by parents' level of education, and parental involvement. An online survey consisting of close-ended and open-ended questions was distributed to the study participants in April 2021. The thesis had a quantitative analytical approach and future research may take a qualitative analytical approach.

The scale and scope of the Handbook is such that the articles included in it provide substantive contributions to knowledge and understanding of education in the Asia region. In so doing, the articles present the problems and issues facing education in the region and the findings of research conducted within the region that contribute to the resolution of these problems and issues. Moreover, since new problems and issues are constantly arising, the articles in the Handbook also indicate the likely directions of future developments. The different articles within the Handbook seek to conceptualize the problems in each specific content area under review, provide an integration of the research conducted within that area, the theoretical basis of the research the practical implications of the research and the contribution of the research towards the resolution of the problems identified. Thus, the articles do not involve the reporting of newly conducted research, but rather require a synthesis of the research undertaken in a particular area, with reference to the research methods employed and the theoretical frameworks on which the research is based. In general, the articles do not advocate a single point of view, but rather, present alternative points of view and comment on the debate and disagreements associated with the conduct and findings of the research. Furthermore, it should be noted, that the Handbook is not concerned with research methodology, and only considers the methods employed in inquiry in so far as the particular methods of research contribute to the effective investigation of problems and issues that have arisen in the conduct and provision of education at different levels within the region.
