Book Synopsis Economic Growth in Canada by : N. Harvey Lithwick
Download or read book Economic Growth in Canada written by N. Harvey Lithwick and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1967-12-15 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely study fills some serious gaps in the historical record of economic development in Canada and compares it with that in the United States pointing out the parallels in development that have resulted from similarities in tastes and technologies and the high degree of monility between two economies. In addition, it clarifies certain mistaken notions about the Canadian economy by evaluating the sources of past growth and anticipating the potential open to the country. This edition includes a chapter which examines Canadian experience over the past decade and compares it with that of the United States. This work will be valuable to economists, policy makers and the informed layman. There is a minimal amount of complex mathematics and the bulk of the statistical material is relegated to the apendices.
Book Synopsis The Economic Development of Canada by : Richard Pomfret
Download or read book The Economic Development of Canada written by Richard Pomfret and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2005. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to and interpretation of the development of the Canadian economy since European settlement. The main contrast between the book’s view and previous interpretations of Canada’s economic past is that, instead of emphasizing the continuity of Canadian economic development (with staple exports playing the leading role), the focus is on the transition from the sparsely populated colonial economy of the early nineteenth century to the modern economy ranking among the seven largest market economies whose leaders now meet for economic summits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary methodologies include the "cliometric" style of historical analysis, econometrics, labour and regional study, and the changing parameters of government spending and public finance. The juxtaposition of classic theoretical statements with works by "outsiders" such as G.S. Kealey, B.D. Palmer, R.T. Naylor, R.E Ommer, among others, makes this a solid yet innovative record of the progress in economics over the last forty years. Canadian Economic History remains an essential classroom text.
Book Synopsis The Economic Role of International Trade in Canada's Future by : Caroline Mutuku
Download or read book The Economic Role of International Trade in Canada's Future written by Caroline Mutuku and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-07-18 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Document from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Foreign Trade Theory, Trade Policy, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: In the past decade, the Canadian economy experienced stagnation owing to the existence of unfavorable economic trends in the regional and global economy. It is argued that Canadian economy slipped into a recession because of the challenges faced in building its competitiveness in the international trade network. For instance, Canada has been relying on regional trade, especially with the United States which accounts for the highest portion of international exports, and this aspect is linked to the crippling of the Canadian economy. Therefore, internationalization of trade activities appears to be one of the most reliable approaches for aligning the country’s economy with the 21st century global economy. This approach will enable the country to increase its export levels which will, in turn, increase the Gross Domestic Product of Canada. This is probably why Laurin (2013) remarks “There is a growing perception that Canadian businesses need to turn their attention to overseas markets and shift their business strategies to adapt a new global environment’. As such, the current approach by Canadian premiers to establish trade agreements with international trade partners seem to be an amicable answer to economic tantrums in the Canadian economy. The new approach bears significant economic roles in the Canadian economic prospects in the future. According to the Council of the Federation, it is apparent that “strengthening Canada’s trade and investment linkages with the global economy will mean addressing challenges and taking advantage of new opportunities”. This aspect is reaffirmed by Passaris (2013) who observes “International trade is both the heartbeat and the lifeblood of the Canadian economy. In fact, international trade has empowered Canada to side-step economic theory”.Therefore, this paper will give an overview on the economic role of international trade in Canada’s future.

Book Synopsis SME and Entrepreneurship Policy in Canada by : Collectif
Download or read book SME and Entrepreneurship Policy in Canada written by Collectif and published by OECD. This book was released on 2017-07-25 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SMEs and entrepreneurs make an important contribution to the Canadian economy. SMEs account for 60% of total employment, and Canada performs very well across many measures of small business generation, growth and innovation. However, further increases in productivity in medium-sized firms, an increase in SME exports, a greater business start-up rate and an increased number of high-growth firms could bring substantial benefits for the national economy. This report identifies several areas where new policy approaches could help achieve these objectives. Framework conditions for small business could be improved in business taxation, public procurement, access to financing and the commercialisation of research. New and extended programmes could be introduced in domains including entrepreneurship education, management advice and consultancy, and workforce skills development. A major effort is recommended to prioritise women's entrepreneurship, including by supporting social enterprises, and federal support could be offered to support the exchange of information on best practice SME regulations and programmes among provinces and territories. All this could be brought together and co-ordinated through the umbrella of a national strategy and a lead agency for SME and entrepreneurship policy.
