Book Synopsis The Way I See It by : Jürgen Schadeberg
Download or read book The Way I See It written by Jürgen Schadeberg and published by Pan Macmillan South africa. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful memoir of an extraordinary life behind the lens, chronicling apartheid South Africa and beyond. Jürgen Schadeberg's iconic photographs are etched into history: Nelson Mandela gazing through the bars of his Robben Island cell; a young Miriam Makeba dancing; Hugh Masekela receiving a trumpet from Louis Armstrong; the Women's March of 1955; the Sophiatown removals; the Sharpeville massacre victims' funeral. But the story of the man behind the camera is no less remarkable. Schadeberg's empathy for the persecuted was deeply rooted by the time he arrived in South Africa from Germany in 1950 to capture history for Drum magazine. This evocative memoir, which won the South African Literary Awards Creative Non-Fiction Award, spans over 50 years across Europe, Africa, and the United States. From witnessing the repressive Nazi regime and Allied bombings as a child in Berlin to fending for himself in devastated post-war Germany, Schadeberg's resilience shines through. Tragically, Schadeberg passed away on 29 August 2020, but his visual storytelling legacy lives on in The Way I See It.

Book Synopsis Nietzsche's Zarathustra by : C. G. Jung
Download or read book Nietzsche's Zarathustra written by C. G. Jung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young man growing up near Basel, Jung was fascinated and disturbed by tales of Nietzsche's brilliance, eccentricity, and eventual decline into permanent psychosis. These volumes, the transcript of a previously unpublished private seminar, reveal the fruits of his initial curiosity: Nietzsche's works, which he read as a student at the University of Basel, had moved him profoundly and had a life-long influence on his thought. During the sessions the mature Jung spoke informally to members of his inner circle about a thinker whose works had not only overwhelmed him with the depth of their understanding of human nature but also provided the philosophical sources of many of his own psychological and metapsychological ideas. Above all, he demonstrated how the remarkable book Thus Spake Zarathustra illustrates both Nietzsche's genius and his neurotic and prepsychotic tendencies. Since there was at that time no thought of the seminar notes being published, Jung felt free to joke, to lash out at people and events that irritated or angered him, and to comment unreservedly on political, economic, and other public concerns of the time. This seminar and others, including the one recorded in Dream Analysis, were given in English in Zurich during the 1920s and 1930s.

To quote the book critic of the OREGONIAN, "...PAPAS' PORTLAND is an upbeat, trendy, hot-to-trot vision of the city that will be a revelation for those who have spent their lives here....Papas paints Portland in whimsical swirls of color & line, capturing its essence with the good humored & insightful objectivity enjoyed by newcomers. Papas does well in capturing Portland's ambiance, contained in neighborhood pockets & downtown street scenes..." For anyone visiting, intending to live in the city or already living here, PAPA PORTLAND is a must. The book is the first in a series on America's cities by the Papas with Seattle the chosen venue for 1995.
