Book Synopsis Industry and the European Union by : Michael Darmer
Download or read book Industry and the European Union written by Michael Darmer and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book is a most valuable contribution to the understanding of the complexity of European policies and their impact on individual businesses and industry as a whole. That focus makes this book unique. All in all, there are only a few books about the industrial policy of the European Union and none with such a focus.' - Karel van Miert, Universiteit Nyenrode, The Netherlands 'Contrary to standard works covering community industrial policy, this book is based on the experience of those involved in the actual formulation of policies. It documents the evolution of this policy towards a horizontal approach combining various instruments that need to be made consistent with each other. This book will be very valuable to scholars and policymakers alike.' - Alexis Jacquemin, European Commission and Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium European policies increasingly affect the daily decisions of European firms. Better understanding of the motivation and reasoning behind policies that affect industry is therefore essential to those interested in or affected by industrial policy. Industry and the European Union explores different European policy areas, focusing on aspects that are of particular importance for business.

Book Synopsis Fuzzy Sets in Management, Economics, and Marketing by : Constantin Zopounidis
Download or read book Fuzzy Sets in Management, Economics, and Marketing written by Constantin Zopounidis and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid changes that have taken place globally on the economic, social and business fronts characterized the 20th century. The magnitude of these changes has formed an extremely complex and unpredictable decision-making framework, which is difficult to model through traditional approaches. The main purpose of this book is to present the most recent advances in the development of innovative techniques for managing the uncertainty that prevails in the global economic and management environments. These techniques originate mainly from fuzzy sets theory. However, the book also explores the integration of fuzzy sets with other decision support and modeling disciplines, such as multicriteria decision aid, neural networks, genetic algorithms, machine learning, chaos theory, etc. The presentation of the advances in these fields and their real world applications adds a new perspective to the broad fields of management science and economics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A frequent complaint in literature is that services have been previously largely overlooked by innovation researchers and technology policy makers. Given the unarguable growth in the importance of the service sectors, increasing numbers of researchers and policy makers have taken a fresh look at service activities. Innovation Systems in the Service Economy: Measurement and Case Study Analysis presents contributions which increase the understanding of the role of services in the development of the division of labor in modern economics. This volume is devoted to the elaboration and understanding of the following two themes. First, service firms can be innovative in their own right, even though the process of innovation and the kinds of innovation may be different from those traditionally associated with manufacturing and other primary activities. Second, service firms and associated activities play an important role in the evolving division of creative labor which is constituted by modern innovative systems.

Book Synopsis The Dynamics of Clusters and Innovation by : Brigitte Preissl
Download or read book The Dynamics of Clusters and Innovation written by Brigitte Preissl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovation is the motor of economic change. Over the last fifteen years, researches in innovation processes have emphasised the systemic features of innovation. Whilst innovation system analysis traditionally takes a static institutional approach, cluster analysis focuses on interaction and the dynamics of technology and innovation. First, the volume gives an overview of the different levels of analysis from which the innovation behaviour of firms has been observed in the past. The book then presents a distinct cluster approach as a useful and innovative tool to analyse the configuration and dynamics of networks of actors involved in innovative processes. This approach emphasises the possibilities of enhancing cluster benefits by introducing virtual links between cluster actors. Empirical evidence is provided for the automotive components and the telecommunication industries. By restricting the discussion to Germany and Italy, the authors are able to explore the role that national innovation systems play as a framework in which clusters operate.
