Book Synopsis Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy by : Paul R. Bown
Download or read book Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy written by Paul R. Bown and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-16 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calcareous nannofossils are an exceptionally important microfossil group, with their living counterparts, coccolithopores, representing one of the major components of phytoplankton in present day oceans. Their abundant fossil record and world-wide distribution has led to their rapid acceptance as one of the most important index-fossil groups in stratigraphical research. The first two chapters of this book provide general information concerning calcareous nannofossils, including reviews of their biology and palaeobiology, and preparation and observation techniques. Chapters 3-9 are ordered stratigraphically, and present state-of-the-art summaries of calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy for each time period, with comprehensive illustrations of all taxa within a standardised classification based on the latest research into structure and biomineralization. The practical application of these biostratigraphic schemes is discussed, including comments on zones biogeography, taxonomy and evolution. This information is internationally relevant, and global correlation is discussed. Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy is the most comprehensive atlas of this fossil group ever produced, containing 65 full page plates with over 2,000 individual photographs, together with comments concerning stratigraphic distribution and identification. Chapters on the Mesozoic contain electron microscope illustrations as well as light micrographs. The inclusion of much recent, previously unpublished, research provides a new level of biostratigraphic resolution for a number of time periods, making the book both a valuable synthesis and a significant step forward in biogeographical research. Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy is a comprehensive practical handbook for palaeontologists and organizations who use calcareous nannofossils in biostratigraphy, and provides a valuable practical reference work for earth scientists engaged in stratigraphic research, and those interested in palaeontology, palaeoceanography, stratigraphy and geochronology.
Book Synopsis The Antarctic Paleoenvironment by : James P. Kennett
Download or read book The Antarctic Paleoenvironment written by James P. Kennett and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1992 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Antarctic Research Series, Volume 56. The Antarctic continent and the surrounding Southern Ocean represent one of the major climate engines of the Earth: coupled components critical in the Earth's environmental system. The contributions in this volume help with the understanding of the long-term evolution of Antarctica's environment and biota. The aim of this and the succeeding companion volume is to help place the modern system within a historical context. A large number of workers have contributed much in providing the necessary reviews of the contributions published in this volume; we heartily thank you all: J. B. Anderson, J. H. Andrews, M. P. Book Synopsis The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle by : Jai Krishna
Download or read book The Indian Mesozoic Chronicle written by Jai Krishna and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-11 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews and summarizes the Indian Mesozoic geological evolution in an innovative alternative perspective of sequence stratigraphy. It mainly focuses on the Jurassic interval, but also concisely discusses the preceding Triassic and Cretaceous geological records. The key to the study is primarily held in the recently developed ammonoid based high resolution scales in the Triassic and Jurassic period. The Indian Jurassic record is thus elevated to a high resolution pedestal. The large intra-Jurassic stratigraphic gap in Kachchh, with increase in duration from margin to basin, has been précised in different sections, along with radical revision of its long held interpretation from sub-aerial to sub-marine all over from Arabia to Australia. Other significant gaps are also differentiated into sub-aerial and sub-marine. The Indian Late Precambrian – Neogene record is organized into five mega-sequences. Among these, the fourth – also the most important one – includes the intra-Permian to Early Eocene interval from the origin to the closure of the Neotethys. Based on multidisciplinary integration of the Indian Mesozoic geological record and comparison with hydrocarbon producing basins on east and west of India, a highly positive scenario of the hydrocarbon source/reservoir sediment perspective is outlined in the book in sequence stratigraphic backdrop as an edifice for future elaborate evaluation.
Book Synopsis History of the Australian Vegetation by : Robert S. Hill
Download or read book History of the Australian Vegetation written by Robert S. Hill and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Australian vegetation is the end result of a remarkable history of climate change, latitudinal change, continental isolation, soil evolution, interaction with an evolving fauna, fire and most recently human impact. This book presents a detailed synopsis of the critical events that led to the evolution of the unique Australian flora and the wide variety of vegetational types contained within it. The first part of the book details the past continental relationships of Australia, its palaeoclimate, fauna and the evolution of its landforms since the rise to dominance of the angiosperms at the beginning of the Cretaceous period. A detailed summary of the palaeobotanical record is then presented. The palynological record gives an overview of the vegetation and the distribution of important taxa within it, while the complementary macrofossil record is used to trace the evolution of critical taxa. This book will interest graduate students and researchers interested in the evolution of the flora of this fascinating continent.
Book Synopsis Middle Miocene calcareous nannoplankton of NE Slovenia (western Central Paratethys) by : Miloš Bartol
Download or read book Middle Miocene calcareous nannoplankton of NE Slovenia (western Central Paratethys) written by Miloš Bartol and published by Založba ZRC. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph presents Badenian calcareous nannoplankton from NE Slovenia. Several hundred samples from 22 measured sections have been studied. In total, 109 species of calcareous nannoplankton are determined and described, many of which are new to Slovenia. The entire interval studied was assigned to the Middle Miocene. The excellent preservation and high species diversity enabled a precise subdivision of this interval into 6 successive interval zones, correlated with the absolute time scale (15.5 - 13.1 Ma) and with the 3rd order eustatic cycles (TB2.3, TB2.4 and TB2.5). Lists of all examined nannoplankton assemblages and their paleoecological analyses are also included. The monograph is a comprehensive review of the taxonomy, biostratigraphy and paleoecology of Miocene calcareous nannoplankton in the western part of the Central Paratethys.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Marine Micropaleontology by : B.U. Haq
Download or read book Introduction to Marine Micropaleontology written by B.U. Haq and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-03-12 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated text book, with state-of-the-art illustrations, is useful not only for an introduction to the subject, but also for the application of marine microfossils in paleoceanographic, paleoenvironmental and biostratigraphic analyses. The recent revival of interest in marine micropaleontology worldwide in the wake of the development of sequence stratigraphic models has led to the decision to reissue the volume in its original, but paperback, form. The ideas expressed in various chapters of this second edition remain as valid today as they were when the book was first issued. The text, however, includes an updated Phanerozoic geologic time which has been considerably modified since the 1980s.
