The whole man, body and soul, like sweet bells jangled, out of tune, and harsh, is fagged with work, eaten up of impatience, and haunted with visions of vacation. One babbles 0' green fields, like a very Fal staff; and the poor tired ears hum with sea-music like a couple of sea-shells. At last it comes, the Ist of August, and then - like an arrow from a Tartar's bow, like a bird from its cage, like a lover to his mistress - one is off; and before the wild scar lets of sunset die on the northern sea, one is in the silence of the hills, those eternal sun-dials that tell the hours to the shepherd, and in one's nostrils is the smell Of peat-reek, and in one's throat the flavour of usquebaugh. Then come long floating summer days, so silent the wilderness, that one can hear one's heart beat; then come long silent nights, the waves heard upon the shore, although Mal is a mile away, in which one snatches the fearful joy of a ghost story, told by shepherd or fisher, who believes in it as in his own existence. Then one beholds sunset, not through the smoked glass of towns, but gloriously through the clearness of em kindled air. Then one makes acquaintance with sunrise, which to the dweller in a city, who con forms to the usual proprieties, is about the rarest of this world's sights. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Winter and Summer Outing by the Sea As to diseases of the respiratory organs, a physician says: l have had personal knowledge of many patients suffering from various forms of such affections who have made trials of the climate of Atlantic City in winter. The cases have, as a rule, improved, some of them very decidedly, though there have been exceptions. Consumptives in the incipient stage, and even those in the advanced stages of the disease, where the destructive process has advanced slowly, have often experienced marked improvement and, in some cases, have been cured. Sufferers from autumnal catarrh, which is essentially a form of hay fever, enjoy great relief by coming to Atlantic City. The late Rev. Henry Ward Beecher and the late Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes had a witty correspondence on the subject of hay fever some years ago, in which the latter declared that there was no cure for the disease but six feet of gravel. Atlantic City., however, has answered back that if it cannot be cured, it can at least be alleviated. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Isles of Shoals in Summer Time Now I fully admit that you must see these in a sunny light, or else they are nothing, and worse than nothing; and I have a friend, who, because he went in a rainstorm and returned in a rainstorm, believes that there is no place on the globe more forlorn and empty of all interest than those same islands. And when I remind him that I go thither yearly, he asks, is not life hard enough, and dreary enough, any way, without adding to it by going down to the Isles of Shoals? Ah sunshine is every thing in the world outside of us, and in the world in side of us, and you want sunshine of course to make the Shoals pleasant. But given sunshine, and the place is just glorified. What do you ask better for a few days than a clean little island out at sea, with no dust, with the thermometer nailed at 70, a fine breeze every day, and that breeze, let it come from N., E., S, . Or W., laden with the ocean's cooln'ess. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. They know immediately that the map is special but have no way of knowing how much. For the map leads to a grail: a vital weapon for the Light’s fight against evil. In taking on the quest to find the grail, the Drews will have to race against the sinister human beings who serve the dreadful power of the dark—an adventure that puts their own lives in grave peril.
