Book excerpt: The Stories shrouded in great mystery appeal to all of us that would consider ourselves spiritual. The continuation of Death The Final Frontier demonstrates a great battle between good and evil. Personally I do not think death is the final frontier, but a new beginning of peace, tranquility, and a rebirth of our souls uniting with the maker of the universe, God. As a Christian, I sometimes get the blunt of those that truly do not understand the path I have chosen to follow within this lifetime. A life full of great triumphs, terrible loss, and great love has given me an awakening to a path beyond comprehension. Throughout the pages in the third installment, the reader will be able to take a ride with me as I fight the battle that has been presented to my soul. Personal encounters, along with many great friends experiences allow for the story to flow smoothly. This also creates a vast array of speculation of what is happening to me personally. In the beginning, I felt as if this were a spiritual attachment of a ghost or other type of malevolent entity. I have now swayed my opinion that it is truly a battle versus good and evil created by either past lives or portals that have been opened up over time. I have shared a great many of my stories and will continue to do so until the great maker decides that my story is complete. If you have not read my first two installments to the Death the Final Frontier Saga, you can find them under the names: Paranormal Experiences: Death the Final Frontier and Experiences From Beyond: Death the Final Frontier II. It is my hope that after reading my experiences that you research for yourselves what is beyond this earthen plane of existence. What started out as a longing to speak and see my father once again has now become a mission to try and explain and examine what happens to us after death and beyond. What manifests in the night might be misconstrued as the creaks in a house, mice in the walls, bugs hitting windows, or some other type of event. For sensitive's, it becomes a whole new ball game. Have you ever wondered why on certain nights you can remember everything that happened within a dream so vividly? Or the nights when you continuously turn over and over and are in and out of slumber? What would cause these types of occurrences to happen? Ever awoke and couldn't move, frozen in a terrified demeanor? Frankly, I would imagine that there are relative terms to describe such situations. Sleep paralysis, astral projection, psychic awareness, or some other type of aspect may be the prowess behind such situations. Death the Final Frontier III will be a continuous plot that describes ideas behind the paranormal in a search for answers of the unknown. The third segment in the series describes the perilous time in my life when evil fought the light in a war for the soul. The search for an afterlife has been discovered in ways beyond our comprehension a vicious cycle of karmic good and bad balance weigh our learning and understanding of what is to come and what will be. Many new philosophical mysteries are examined through the mind of a growing sensitive in the world of the paranormal. As a Christian it is difficult to analyze some of the experiences in light of the moral compass of the church. In my opinion, God has a plan for all of us and in that plan we all branch out in our own way to spiritual completeness. Death is a destination of finality. We are all headed towards this destination, which, depending on beliefs, leads us to an afterlife, or to a never-ending sleep. Throughout the pages in the book, I will explore questions that we all have regarding the processes of death and beliefs of an afterlife. The stories shrouded in the mystery of death will hold a true testament to the beliefs of groups throughout history and today.

Taken together, Schwartz's readings call into question Lewis's self-styled image as a "dinosaur" out of step with the main currents of modern thought. Far from a simple struggle between an old-fashioned Christian humanism and a newfangled heresy, Lewis's Space Trilogy should be seen as the searching effort of a modern religious apologist to sustain and enrich the former through critical engagement with the latter.

Book excerpt: ""Despite my Roman Catholic faith growing up, when I encountered the ""doctrine uttered in secret"" I felt an immediate attraction to it; and although it threw my Christian faith into confusion, I pursued the doctrine of reincarnation. And the more I read on reincarnation, the more convinced I was that when we die we come back to live life over again; and my concern then became-why do we come back to live life over again?"" Book excerpt: The vast and mysterious universe is explored in this reprint anthology from award-winning editor and anthologist Neil Clarke (Clarkesworld magazine, The Best Science Fiction of the Year). The urge to explore and discover is a natural and universal one, and the edge of the unknown is expanded with each passing year as scientific advancements inch us closer and closer to the outer reaches of our solar system and the galaxies beyond them. Generations of writers have explored these new frontiers and the endless possibilities they present in great detail. With galaxy-spanning adventures of discovery and adventure, from generations ships to warp drives, exploring new worlds to first contacts, science fiction writers have given readers increasingly new and alien ways to look out into our broad and sprawling universe. The Final Frontier delivers stories from across this literary spectrum, a reminder that the universe is far large and brimming with possibilities than we could ever imagine, as hard as we may try.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You’ve heard of sacred places, writings, relics, and rituals, holy days and magical times of year. But these are actually representations of relationships that people have with each other and the elements of the world. Some of these relationships environmental: they involve landscapes, animals, and the streets of your home town. Some are personal, such as families, friends, and elders. Some are public, involving musicians, storytellers, medical doctors, and even soldiers. This book studies twenty-two relationships, from a variety of traditions, and shows their place in ‘the good life’. Yet these relations are always fragile, and threatened by fears, from the fear of loneliness, to the fear of the loss of personal or political freedom, to the fear of death. To escape from these fears, people often trap themselves into ways of life that are bad for everyone, including themselves. This book studies how that happens, and how to prevent it. More than beliefs, laws, and teachings, our relationships are the true basis of spirituality, and freedom.

Book excerpt: The travel experience filled with personal trauma; the pilgrimage through a war-torn place; the journey with those suffering: these represent the darker sides of travel. What is their allure and how are they represented? This volume takes an ethnographic and interdisciplinary approach to explore the writings and texts of dark journeys and travels. In traveling over the dead, amongst the dying, and alongside the suffering, the authors give us a tour of humanity's violence and misery. And yet, from this dark side, there comes great beauty and poignancy in the characterization of plight; creativity in the comic, graphic, and graffiti sketches and comments on life; and the sense of profound and spiritual journeys being undertaken, recorded, and memorialized. Jonathan Skinner is Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at Queen's University Belfast. He is the author of Before the Volcano: Reverberations of Identity on Montserrat (Arawak Publications 2004), and co-editor of Managing Island Life (University of Abertay Press 2006) and Great Expectations: Imagination and Anticipation in Tourism (Berghahn 2011).

The varied contributors in this collection explore, through their particular lenses, how theological ideas might be seen in and considered through one of the most popular of modern art forms. From subjects of sin, grace, and forgiveness to violence, science fiction/fantasy, and zombies, Light Shining in a Dark Place assists the theologically interested film viewer in tracing the light that might be found in the filmic arts back to the source of all lights. Where are we coming from? Where are we going? But besides intelligence we are endowed with yet another quality of the mind and this is why we are troubled by even more enigmatic problems: Does God exist? Do we, humans, have a soul or are we just the superior product of evolution of matter, simply emerged from the Big Bang? This book is a provocation: set aside your intelligence for a while, at least for the duration of the journey we invite you on. We will travel as far as possible and surprisingly, we are not going to navigate with our intelligence but with the other quality of our mind. It will guide us to the last frontier of matter, to the last frontier of time and to the last frontier of knowledge. We will set out on this trip armed on one hand with what scientists tell us they discovered digging deep inside our universe, deep inside matter and deep inside time and on the other hand also with what religion reveals for us. Who is telling the truth: science or religion? In the end we will be surprised to find out that atheists and believers contradict each other absolutely in vain. In fact, they all say the exact same thing. Do you think this is a paradox? You are right. This is what your intelligence thinks! But this paradox is an impediment only for your intelligence. Our skillful guide will help us overcome this apparent set-back. Do you want to know how? Open the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fiercely independent woman looks into the murder of a working girl in 1919 Alaska in this “excellent” series debut (Mystery Scene). There’s many who feel the Alaska Territory is no place for a woman on her own. But Charlotte Brody, suffragette and journalist, has never let public opinion dictate her life choices. She’s come to the frontier town of Cordova, where her brother Michael practices medicine, for the same reason many come to Alaska—to start over. Cordova is gradually getting civilized, but the town is still rougher than Charlotte imagined. And when a local prostitute—one of the working girls her brother has been treating—is found murdered, Charlotte learns firsthand how brutal the frontier can be. Although the town may not consider the death of a prostitute worthy of investigation, Charlotte’s feminist beliefs motivate her to seek justice for the woman. And there’s something else—the woman was hiding a secret, one that reminds Charlotte of her own painful past. As Charlotte searches for answers, she soon finds her own life in danger from a cold-blooded killer desperate to keep dark secrets from seeing the light of day…
