Book excerpt: KEEP YOUR FAMILY BUSINESS ON THE PATH TO SUCCESS. More than 24 million family businesses in the United States employ 62 percent of America's workforce. And in Asia, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, family businesses account for as much as 80 percent of the private sector. So what's different about these businesses? How often does sales for a Fortune 500 firm slump because two brothers couldn't get along? Almost never. But it happens all the time in family businesses. If the family is off track, the business will derail. FAMILY, INC. is a witty, engaging blueprint for maintaining peace within the family and the business. The authors use real-life characters to provide uncommon insights with commonsense solutions. After all, they know that firing Uncle Bill is more difficult than firing just any Bill.

Book Synopsis James Malcolm Rymer, Penny Fiction, and the Family by : Rebecca Nesvet
Download or read book James Malcolm Rymer, Penny Fiction, and the Family written by Rebecca Nesvet and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Malcolm Rymer, Penny Fiction, and the Family is the first monograph focusing on Sweeney Todd and Varney the Vampyre’s creator James Malcolm Rymer (1814–1884). It argues that Rymer wrote his so-called ‘penny bloods’ and ‘dreadfuls’ for and about British urban working families. In the 1840s, the notion of the family acquired unprecedented prominence and radical potential. Raised in an artisanal artistic-literary family, Rymer wrote for and edited family magazines early in that genre’s history, deployed Chartist domesticity to liberal ends, and collaborated with cheap publisher Edward Lloyd to define and popularise the domestic romance genre. In 1850s–1860s penny serials published by George W.M. Reynolds, John Dicks, and Lloyd, Rymer showed how families might sustain Empire and advocated for patriarchal family dynamics in response to literary and political change. During the fin-de-siècle, Rymer’s penny fiction was demonised as hyper-masculine ‘bloods’ and ‘dreadfuls’, a reputation it retains today. Reading Victorian penny fiction’s most indicative author’s works as a corpus and with attention to their original textual, cultural, and political contexts reveals it as the family-oriented phenomenon it in fact was.

Download or read book Olympus Inc written by Tim Dalmau and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Olympus Inc., the authors use the ancient Greek Gods to explores the values, practices and beliefs that underpin businesses, schools, corporations and the like, and through this they illuminate the complex forces and currents that are at work in modern organizations. They demonstrate that autocratic Zeus, uber-efficient Apollo, the slippery trickster Hermes in fact, all the gods of the Greek pantheon - are alive and thriving in our workplaces, clubs and institutions. By combining ancient myth with archetypal psychology, the authors deliver an approach to the complex issues of organizational change. Their approach is creative and engaging, but also down-to-earth and practical. Olympus Inc. includes a discussion of the DNAI (Dalmau-Neville Archetypology Indicator), a powerful and easily applicable tool that distills the theory, or archetypal psychology, in ways that enable organizations to see themselves not only as they are... but as they want to be.
