Book excerpt: The great granddaughter of Alais the Wise, child of the Maghuin Donn, and a cousin of the Cruarch of Alba, Moirin learns her father was a D'Angeline priest dedicated to serving Naamah, goddess of desire. Once there were great magicians born to the Maghuin Dhonn; the folk of the Brown Bear, the oldest tribe in Alba. But generations ago, the greatest of them all broke a sacred oath sworn in the name of all his people. Now, only small gifts remain to them. Through her lineage, Moirin possesses such gifts - the ability to summon the twilight and conceal herself, and the skill to coax plants to grow. Moirin has a secret, too. From childhood onward, she senses the presence of unfamiliar gods in her life; the bright lady, and the man with a seedling cupped in his palm. Raised in the wilderness by her reclusive mother, it isn't until she comes of age that Moirin learns how illustrious, if mixed, her heritage is. After Moirin undergoes the rites of adulthood, she finds divine acceptance...on the condition that she fulfill an unknown destiny that lies somewhere beyond the ocean. Or perhaps oceans. Beyond Terre d'Ange where she finds her father, in the far reaches of distant Ch'in, Moirin's skills are a true gift when facing the vengeful plans of an ambitious mage, a noble warrior princess desperate to save her father's throne, and the spirit of a celestial dragon.

Download or read book No Time to Panic written by Matt Gutman and published by Random House. This book was released on 2024-09-24 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By ABC News’s chief national correspondent, an unflinching look at panic attacks by a reporter whose career was nearly derailed by them, offering readers a guide to making a truce with their warring minds "Brave, reassuring, and practical...A balm for anyone who has ever suffered panic attacks and who longs to be released from their grip." —Dr. Nicole LePera, #1 New York Times bestselling author of How to Do the Work “Seamlessly weaves page-turning personal experiences with scientific discoveries…A tour de force." —Ethan Kross, bestselling author of Chatter Matt Gutman can tell you the precise moment when his life was upended. Reporting live on a huge story in January 2020, he found himself in the throes of an on-air panic attack—and not for the first time. The truth is that Gutman had been enduring panic attacks in secret for twenty years: soul-bruising episodes that left his vision constricted, his body damp, his nerves shot. Despite the challenges, he had carved out a formidable career, reporting from war zones and natural disasters before millions of viewers on Good Morning America, World News Tonight, and 20/20. His nerves typically “punched through” to TV audiences, making his appearances kinetic and often unforgettable. But his January 2020 broadcast was unusual for all the wrong reasons. Mid-panic, Gutman misstated the facts of a story, a blunder that led to a monthlong suspension, not to mention public shame and personal regret. It was a reckoning. Gutman’s panic attacks had become too much for him to bear in secret. He needed help. So begins a personal journey into the science and treatment of panic attacks. Gutman would talk to the world’s foremost scholars on panic and anxiety, who showed him that his mind wasn’t broken; it’s our perception of panic that needs recalibration. He would consult therapists and shamans, trying everything from group treatment and cognitive behavioral therapy to ayahuasca and psilocybin. And he would take a hard look at the trauma reverberating inside him—from his childhood, but also from his years as a conflict reporter. Unsparing, perceptive, and often funny, this is the story of a panic sufferer who took on the monster within. Filled with wisdom and actionable insights, it’s at once an inspirational journey and a road map—if not toward a singular cure, then to something even more worthy: peace of mind.

Book Synopsis The Kingdom of Fluff and Claw by : Logan Riley
Download or read book The Kingdom of Fluff and Claw written by Logan Riley and published by Logan Riley. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the order of Fluff or Claw it can be done. There are two ways into the Kingdom—by love or by blood. This little pig? I choose…blood. People thought we were the perfect family. And maybe we were, back then. Before Dad had to go away to get better. I wish I’d never learned that Dad sometimes couldn’t be trusted or that happiness could get sucked away so fast it feels like the bottom’s fallen out of the world. But most of all I wish my little brother hadn’t been kidnapped by my murderous stuffed pig or toted off to a fantasy land where good toys go to retire, and bad toys make sacrifices to gain entrance to paradise. Now, it’s up to me to save Finn, with the help of his creep-tastic doll and a blankie I’m pretty sure wants to eat my eyeballs. The Kingdom of Fluff and Claw isn’t a safe place for kids, but sometimes neither is the real world. I learned that the hard way. Safe or not, I can’t go back without Finn. I’m going to bring my little brother home and no toy, no matter how dangerous, is going to stop me. The Kingdom of Fluff and Claw is a middle grade fantasy in the tradition of Labyrinth and The Wizard of Oz. It is appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Book Synopsis The Blood of Lambs by : F.V. Hank Helmick
Download or read book The Blood of Lambs written by F.V. Hank Helmick and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-08-17 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Blood of Lambs is a biblical historical fictional novel about the life of Saint Stephen, the first martyr as written about in the Acts of the Apostles pages 6&7. Stephen was a rich mans dissolute son from Alexandria with the face of an angel. Accompanied by his two brothers Benjamin and Nabal, they set sail for Israel where they meet Acacius ben Xanthine an agnostic soldier of fortune. They defend themselves from an attack by brigands led by Antigonis the One Eyed and Adder the mysterious deadly little killer who is the secret leader of the Sicariia deadly band of Zealot cutthroats, who plays both ends against the middle. Antigonis as an Avenger of the Blood creates an enmity between the two groups that threads its way throughout the entire story. Acacius stumbles upon a plot led by Simon Magus the Magician to conquer the world. He works with the leader of the Roman Legion Italica II, the Tribune Julian Lombard to uncover the plot. Myra the Madam is the only person to ever escape from the secret cave of Antigonis and she is dedicated to avenge her friends murders by Adder and Antigonis. The setting for the story is Israel at the time of Christs Passion. Stephen meets and is infatuated by Jeshua and becomes a disciple and meets the beautiful and vivacious Michal. Rabbi Agamemnon, the leader of the Synagogue of Roman Freemen lines himself up with Simon Magus. Both Adder and Antigonis are subjected to the prophetic curse of their prostitute victim Miriam, a cousin of a witch in the lineage of the Witches of Endor. The story follows the historical events of the era. The myths, mysticism and miracles of the early Church are played upon throughout the story. The author has been scrupulous in the use of authentic historical data, which is the only thing too which he will take pride.
