Book Synopsis France in the Age of Organization by : Jackie Clarke
Download or read book France in the Age of Organization written by Jackie Clarke and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In interwar France, there was a growing sense that ‘organization’ was the solution to the nation’s perceived social, economic and political ills. This book examines the roots of this idea in the industrial rationalization movement and its manifestations in areas as diverse as domestic organization and economic planning. In doing so, it shows how experts in fields ranging from engineering to the biological sciences shaped visions of a rational socio-economic order from the 1920s to Vichy and beyond.
Book Synopsis French Economy and the State by : Warren C. Baum
Download or read book French Economy and the State written by Warren C. Baum and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern France is often referred to as the "sick man of Europe." With attention focused on the all-pervasive role of the state, Mr. Baum makes a revealing diagnosis. He provides a full view into the structure and performance of the French economy, dealing first with government efforts to solve certain general problems: reconstruction of the economic system, controlling cycles of inflation and recession, and closing the large gap in the balance of payments. After discussing the state's traditional role of public financier and its less orthodox role as entrepreneur in the large sector of the economy now under public ownership, he shows how the state acts as a regulator of private enterprise in industry and agriculture. Mr. Baum’s extensive use of original French source material and discussions with French officials in business and government make this book a unique contribution to understanding modern France. This book was released on 2006-10-31 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Proceedings of the Nineteenth Session of the Hague Conference on Private International Law encompasses all preparatory work and records of meetings which led to the adoption of the Hague Convention on the Law Applicable to Certain Rights in Respect of Securities held with an Intermediary (the Hague Securities Convention). The signing of this Convention on 5 July 2006 by two of the world's major financial markets, the United States and Switzerland, shows the relevance of the new treaty. Traditional rules, based on physical transfers and direct holdings, are too diverse and inadequate to deal with securities which are nowadays transferred and pledged by electronic entries to accounts with clearing and settlement systems and other intermediaries. By identifying specific conflict rules, the Hague Securities Convention provides a means to remedy this lack of legal certainty which has characterized for too long the field of security transactions. The Proceedings will enable the financial world, but also legal practitioners and academics to grasp the background and full objectives of this very innovative international instrument.

Download or read book Naviguer, commercer, gouverner written by Claire Judde de Larivière and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-11-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The convoys of public galleys, the typical form of Venetian medieval sea-faring, had disappeared gradually by the time of the battle of Lepanto. This disappearance was not the sign of a general economic crisis, but was nevertheless the corollary of important political, economic and social changes which marked the history of sixteenth-century Venice. Through the study of economic actors, their identity, their practices and their functions, this book analyses public and private commercial navigation in relation to the evolution of forms and functions of the State, within a general context of the redefinition of the relationship between public good and private interests.
Book Synopsis Governance, Industry and Labour Markets in Britain and France by : Robert Salais
Download or read book Governance, Industry and Labour Markets in Britain and France written by Robert Salais and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-22 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together well-known scholars from a wide range of disciplines to provide a superb analytical and historical overview of how state policy has affected established economic and labour market systems in France and Britain. The contributors to this book explore some crucial questions: * how 'dirigiste' was the French state in reality * why was state intervention more acceptable in France than in Britain * how do the differences in state intervention help to explain the respective economic performances of the two countries since the second world war? The book draws on hitherto unpublished primary research by scholars in economic and social history, industrial relations, economics, law, political science, sociology and social policy. As such, it is a timely and welcome intervention into debates concerning the politics of modern labour markets specifically and the role of the state in economic modernization more widely. It will have strong appeal to researchers and students in several discplines.
