Download or read book Corps of Engineers' Experience with Automatic Calibration of a Precipitation-runoff Model written by David T. Ford and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer program HEC-1, a precipitation-runoff model widely used throughout the United States, includes the capability to estimate automatically any of twelve parameters necessary to model the precipitation-runoff process and the channel routing process. The parameter estimation scheme employs Newton's method to minimize a weighted sum of squares of differences between observed and computed hydrograph values. Applications of this parameter estimation procedure are presneted, and typical steps of the procedure for deterimining optimal parameter estimates are outlined. Recent efforts to improve the estimation algorithm and recent use of the calibration capability to update sequentially parameter estimates in a flood forecasting application are discussed. (Author).
Book Synopsis Water and Related Land Resource Systems by : Y. Haimes
Download or read book Water and Related Land Resource Systems written by Y. Haimes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water and Related Land Resource Systems covers IFAC Symposium that aims to address resource problem, as well as methodologies and procedures for respective solutions. Consists of 60 chapters, the book is organized in sessions according to the technical program of the conference. The book first tackles multiobjective planning in water and land resources, which is followed by acquisition and analysis of surface water quality data. The next part covers hierarchical water resource planning and management models, while the succeeding part is about environmental and ecological aspects of water and land resources. The fifth session discusses the impact of energy development on water and land resources. Session VI covers modeling and systems identification problems in water resources, and Session VII covers acquisition and analysis of hydrologic data. The eighth session tackles ground water and its conjunctive use with surface water, while the next session talks about sedimentation and land management. The tenth session is about multiobjective planning in water and land resources. Predicting and forecasting models in water resources is the topic of Session XI, while Session XII discusses evaluation and calibration problem in water resource modeling. The closing chapter covers water and land issues in urban areas. Professionals whose work revolves around recourse management and researchers whose work is in line with natural resource will find great information in this book that will be relevant in their trade.
Book Synopsis Rainfall-runoff Modelling in Gauged and Ungauged Catchments by : Thorsten Wagener
Download or read book Rainfall-runoff Modelling in Gauged and Ungauged Catchments written by Thorsten Wagener and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important monograph is based on the results of a study on the identification of conceptual lumped rainfall-runoff models for gauged and ungauged catchments. The task of model identification remains difficult despite decades of research. A detailed problem analysis and an extensive review form the basis for the development of a Matlab? modelling toolkit consisting of two components: a Rainfall-Runoff Modelling Toolbox (RRMT) and a Monte Carlo Analysis Toolbox (MCAT). These are subsequently applied to study the tasks of model identification and evaluation. A novel dynamic identifiability approach has been developed for the gauged catchment case. The theory underlying the application of rainfall-runoff models for predictions in ungauged catchments is studied, problems are highlighted and promising ways to move forward are investigated. Modelling frameworks for both gauged and ungauged cases are developed. This book presents the first extensive treatment of rainfall-runoff model identification in gauged and ungauged catchments.

Book Synopsis Advances in Hydroinformatics by : Philippe Gourbesville
Download or read book Advances in Hydroinformatics written by Philippe Gourbesville and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-25 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features a collection of extended papers based on presentations given at the SimHydro 2019 conference, held in Sophia Antipolis in June 2019 with the support of French Hydrotechnic Society (SHF), focusing on “Which models for extreme situations and crisis management?” Hydraulics and related disciplines are frequently applied in extreme situations that need to be understood accurately before implementing actions and defining appropriate mitigation measures. However, in such situations currently used models may be partly irrelevant due to factors like the new physical phenomena involved, the scale of the processes, and the hypothesis included in the different numerical tools. The availability of computational resources and new capacities like GPU offers modellers the opportunity to explore various approaches to provide information for decision-makers. At the same time, the topic of crisis management has sparked interest from stakeholders who need to share a common understanding of a situation. Hydroinfomatics tools can provide essential information in crises; however, the design and integration of models in decision-support systems require further development and the engagement of various communities, such as first responders. In this context, methodologies, guidelines and standards are more and more in demand in order to ensure that the systems developed are efficient and sustainable. Exploring both the limitations and performance of current models, this book presents the latest developments based on new numerical schemes, high-performance computing, multiphysics and multiscale methods, as well as better integration of field-scale model data. As such, it will appeal to practitioners, stakeholders, researchers and engineers active in this field.
