Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thougtit that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 31 (thesis year 1986) a total of 11 ,480 theses titles trom 24 Canadian and 182 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base tor these titles reported will greatly enhance the value ot this important annual reterence work. While Volume 31 reports theses submitted in 1986, on occasion, certain univer sities do re port theses submitted in previousyears but not reported at the time.

Book Synopsis Maximum-Likelihood Deconvolution by : Jerry M. Mendel
Download or read book Maximum-Likelihood Deconvolution written by Jerry M. Mendel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Convolution is the most important operation that describes the behavior of a linear time-invariant dynamical system. Deconvolution is the unraveling of convolution. It is the inverse problem of generating the system's input from knowledge about the system's output and dynamics. Deconvolution requires a careful balancing of bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio effects. Maximum-likelihood deconvolution (MLD) is a design procedure that handles both effects. It draws upon ideas from Maximum Likelihood, when unknown parameters are random. It leads to linear and nonlinear signal processors that provide high-resolution estimates of a system's input. All aspects of MLD are described, from first principles in this book. The purpose of this volume is to explain MLD as simply as possible. To do this, the entire theory of MLD is presented in terms of a convolutional signal generating model and some relatively simple ideas from optimization theory. Earlier approaches to MLD, which are couched in the language of state-variable models and estimation theory, are unnecessary to understand the essence of MLD. MLD is a model-based signal processing procedure, because it is based on a signal model, namely the convolutional model. The book focuses on three aspects of MLD: (1) specification of a probability model for the system's measured output; (2) determination of an appropriate likelihood function; and (3) maximization of that likelihood function. Many practical algorithms are obtained. Computational aspects of MLD are described in great detail. Extensive simulations are provided, including real data applications.

Download or read book Signal Analysis written by Alfred Mertins and published by Wiley. This book was released on 1999-03-12 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signal analysis gives an insight into the properties of signals and stochastic processes by methodology. Linear transforms are integral to the continuing growth of signal processes as they characterize and classify signals. In particular, those transforms that provide time-frequency signal analysis are attracting greater numbers of researchers and are becoming an area of considerable importance. The key characteristic of these transforms, along with a certain time-frequency localization called the wavelet transform and various types of multirate filter banks, is their high computational efficiency. It is this computational efficiently which accounts for their increased application. This book provides a complete overview and introduction to signal analysis. It presents classical and modern signal analysis methods in a sequential structure starting with the background to signal theory. Progressing through the book the author introduces more advanced topics in an easy to understand style. Including recent and emerging topics such as filter banks with perfect reconstruction, time frequency and wavelets. With great accuracy and technical merit, this book makes a useful and original contribution to the current literature.

Book Synopsis Adaptive Filtering and Change Detection by : Fredrik Gustafsson
Download or read book Adaptive Filtering and Change Detection written by Fredrik Gustafsson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-10-03 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive filtering is a branch of digital signal processing which enables the selective enhancement of desired elements of a signal and the reduction of undesired elements. Change detection is another kind of adaptive filtering for non-stationary signals, and is the basic tool in fault detection and diagnosis. This text takes the unique approach that change detection is a natural extension of adaptive filtering, and the broad coverage encompasses both the mathematical tools needed for adaptive filtering and change detection and the applications of the technology. Real engineering applications covered include aircraft, automotive, communication systems, signal processing and automatic control problems. The unique integration of both theory and practical applications makes this book a valuable resource combining information otherwise only available in separate sources Comprehensive coverage includes many examples and case studies to illustrate the ideas and show what can be achieved Uniquely integrates applications to airborne, automotive and communications systems with the essential mathematical tools Accompanying Matlab toolbox available on the web illustrating the main ideas and enabling the reader to do simulations using all the figures and numerical examples featured This text would prove to be an essential reference for postgraduates and researchers studying digital signal processing as well as practising digital signal processing engineers.
Book Synopsis Deconvolution of Images and Spectra by : Peter A. Jansson
Download or read book Deconvolution of Images and Spectra written by Peter A. Jansson and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-05-05 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deconvolution is a technique in signal or image processing that is applied to recover information. When it is employed, it is usually because instrumental effects of spreading and blurring have obscured that information. In 1996, Deconvolution of Images and Spectra was published (Academic Press) as a second edition of Jansson's 1984 book, Deconvolution with Applications in Spectroscopy. This landmark volume was first published to provide both an overview of the field, and practical methods and results. The present Dover edition is a corrected reprinting of the second edition. It incorporates all the advantages of its predecessors by conveying a clear understanding of the field while providing a selection of effective, practical techniques. The authors assume only a working knowledge of calculus, and emphasize practical applications over topics of theoretical interest, focusing on areas that have been pivotal to the evolution of the most effective methods. This tutorial is essentially self-contained. Readers will find it practical and easy to understand.
