Book Synopsis Optimal Control in Bioprocesses by : Jérôme Harmand
Download or read book Optimal Control in Bioprocesses written by Jérôme Harmand and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal control is a branch of applied mathematics that engineers need in order to optimize the operation of systems and production processes. Its application to concrete examples is often considered to be difficult because it requires a large investment to master its subtleties. The purpose of Optimal Control in Bioprocesses is to provide a pedagogical perspective on the foundations of the theory and to support the reader in its application, first by using academic examples and then by using concrete examples in biotechnology. The book is thus divided into two parts, the first of which outlines the essential definitions and concepts necessary for the understanding of Pontryagin’s maximum principle – or PMP – while the second exposes applications specific to the world of bioprocesses. This book is unique in that it focuses on the arguments and geometric interpretations of the trajectories provided by the application of PMP.

Book Synopsis Advances in Applied Nonlinear Optimal Control by : Gerasimos Rigatos
Download or read book Advances in Applied Nonlinear Optimal Control written by Gerasimos Rigatos and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-19 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses advances in applied nonlinear optimal control, comprising both theoretical analysis of the developed control methods and case studies about their use in robotics, mechatronics, electric power generation, power electronics, micro-electronics, biological systems, biomedical systems, financial systems and industrial production processes. The advantages of the nonlinear optimal control approaches which are developed here are that, by applying approximate linearization of the controlled systems’ state-space description, one can avoid the elaborated state variables transformations (diffeomorphisms) which are required by global linearization-based control methods. The book also applies the control input directly to the power unit of the controlled systems and not on an equivalent linearized description, thus avoiding the inverse transformations met in global linearization-based control methods and the potential appearance of singularity problems. The method adopted here also retains the known advantages of optimal control, that is, the best trade-off between accurate tracking of reference setpoints and moderate variations of the control inputs. The book’s findings on nonlinear optimal control are a substantial contribution to the areas of nonlinear control and complex dynamical systems, and will find use in several research and engineering disciplines and in practical applications.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Modeling of Biosystems and Metabolism by : Kazuyuki Shimizu
Download or read book Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Modeling of Biosystems and Metabolism written by Kazuyuki Shimizu and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015-06-04 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of biological systems at cellular and molecular levels helps researchers to model cellular behavior in different experimental conditions. This, in turn, can lead to insights about the influence of cell culture environment and the effect of knockout gene research when studying mutations that affect specific metabolic pathways. A systems biology approach, therefore, allows researchers to simulate experimental observations in order to predict outcomes at the cellular level. Fundamentals of Systems Analysis and Modeling of Biosystems and Metabolism presents the basic concepts required for a systems biology approach towards cellular modeling. The book is intended as a primer for systems biology and biomedical engineering graduates and researchers. The text introduces readers to concepts related to cellular metabolism and its regulation, (enzymatic regulation and transcriptional regulation) which are also incorporated into a main metabolic model of a cell. The book also has chapters dedicated to identifying and incorporating steady-state and dynamic characteristics when considering a biological model for a computer simulation. Readers will be able to (1) understand the basis of systems analysis towards creating appropriate biological models and simulations, (2) develop useful kinetic models based on cellular transport phenomena and metabolic regulation, (3) understand how to simulate a cell growth phenotype, and analyze it with experimental data.
Book Synopsis Statistical Approaches With Emphasis on Design of Experiments Applied to Chemical Processes by : Valter Silva
Download or read book Statistical Approaches With Emphasis on Design of Experiments Applied to Chemical Processes written by Valter Silva and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimized operating conditions for complex systems can be attained by using advanced combinations of numerical and statistical methodologies. One of the most efficient and straightforward solutions relies on the application of statistical methods with an emphasis on the design of experiments (DoEs). Throughout the book, the design and analysis of experiments are conducted involving several approaches, namely, Taguchi, response surface methods, statistical correlations, or even fractional factorial and model-based evolutionary operation designs. This book not only presents a theoretical overview about the different approaches but also contains material that covers the use of the experimental analysis applied to several chemical processes. Some chapters highlight the use of software products to assist experimenters in both the design and analysis stages. It helps graduate students, teachers, researchers, and other professionals who are interested in chemical process optimization and also provides a good basis of theoretical knowledge and valuable insights into the technical details of these tools as well as explains common pitfalls to avoid. The world's leading pharmaceutical companies and local governments are trying to achieve their eradication.
