Book excerpt: In The One Percenter Code, best-selling Motorbooks author and editor of Easyriders magazine Dave Nichols takes up where he left off in One Percenter: The Legend of The Outlaw Bikers. Nichols takes readers inside the world of outlaw motorcycle clubs and pulls back the secretive curtain on the biker lifestyle. He explores the concept of brotherhood, ultimately arriving at a new definition of family and community in the process. Being a member of a one percenter motorcycle club requires extreme discipline; in this book, Nichols shows us what that life offers in return. Nichols delves into the one percenter code of conduct and honor and finds something that is sorely lacking in modern society. In this book, he shows us how we can apply those values in our own lives. The world of the outlaw biker has its own rough-hewn rules of order, and The One Percenter Code acts as a guidebook to that truth-, honor-, and brotherhood-based world.

Book Synopsis The Orange Revolution by : Adrian Gostick
Download or read book The Orange Revolution written by Adrian Gostick and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-09-21 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From New York Times bestselling authors and renowned leadership consultants Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton comes a groundbreaking guide to building high-performance teams. What is the true driver of a thriving organization’s exceptional success? Is it a genius leader? An iron-clad business plan? Gostick and Elton shatter these preconceptions of corporate achievement. Their research shows that breakthrough success is guided by a particular breed of high-performing team that generates its own momentum—an engaged group of colleagues in the trenches, working passionately together to pursue a shared vision. Their research also shows that only 20 percent of teams are working anywhere near this optimal capacity. How can your team become one of them? Based on a groundbreaking 350,000-person study by the Best Companies Group, as well as extraordinary research into exceptional teams at leading companies, including Zappos.com, Pepsi Beverages Company, and Madison Square Garden, the authors have determined a key set of characteristics displayed by members of breakthrough teams, and have identified a set of rules great teams live by, which generate a culture of positive teamwork and lead to extraordinary results. Using a wealth of specific stories from the breakthrough teams they studied, they reveal in detail how these teams operate and how managers can transform their own teams into such high performers by fostering: Stronger clarity of goals Greater trust among team members More open and honest dialogue Stronger accountability for all team members Purpose-based recognition of team members’ contributions The remarkable stories they tell about these teams in action provide a simple and powerful step-by-step guide to taking your team to the breakthrough level, igniting the passion and vision to bring about an Orange Revolution.

Book Synopsis The Reformer by : Stephen F. Williams
Download or read book The Reformer written by Stephen F. Williams and published by Encounter Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Besides absolutists of the right (the tsar and his adherents) and left (Lenin and his fellow Bolsheviks), the Russian political landscape in 1917 featured moderates seeking liberal reform and a rapid evolution towards a constitutional monarchy. Vasily Maklakov, a lawyer, legislator and public intellectual, was among the most prominent of these, and the most articulate and sophisticated advocate of the rule of law, the linchpin of liberalism. This book tells the story of his efforts and his analysis of the reasons for their ultimate failure. It is thus, in part, an example for movements seeking to liberalize authoritarian countries today—both as a warning and a guide. Although never a cabinet member or the head of his political party—the Constitutional Democrats or “Kadets”—Maklakov was deeply involved in most of the political events of the period. He was defense counsel for individuals resisting the regime (or charged simply for being of the wrong ethnicity, such as Menahem Beilis, sometimes considered the Russian Dreyfus). He was continuously a member of the Kadets’ central committee and their most compelling orator. As a somewhat maverick (and moderate) Kadet, he stood not only between the country’s absolute extremes (the reactionary monarchists and the revolutionaries), but also between the two more or less liberal centrist parties, the Kadets on the center left, and the Octobrists on the center right. As a member of the Second, Third and Fourth Dumas (1907-1917), he advocated a wide range of reforms, especially in the realms of religious freedom, national minorities, judicial independence, citizens’ judicial remedies, and peasant rights.
Book Synopsis 99 Nights with the 99 Percent by : Chris Faraone
Download or read book 99 Nights with the 99 Percent written by Chris Faraone and published by David Eisenberg. This book was released on 2012 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occupy Wall Street was the most covered news story of 2011. Among those who followed the movement like a storm chaser, Boston Phoenix Staff Writer Chris Faraone is one of the few who blogged about daily Occupy minutiae, but also stepped back to smoke lots of weed, investigate and analyze the protest, and deliver weekly features. Starting in September, Faraone published a series of deep Occupy portraits, traveling to more than a dozen cities from Boston to Seattle. His work illustrates day-to-day Occupy operations, as well the characters who make the movement tick. In the process, he also landed nationwide exclusives, like a scoop on a federation of police officers who support Occupy. Though Faraone is to the left of liberal, he wrote with a balanced reporter's eye, in many cases aggravating readers on both sides of the ideological aisle. Ignoring partisan preferences, Faraone dug for the root of topics ranging from an accused thief who moved between camps, to a veteran anarchist who was inspired by Occupy to come out from underground. As was noted in a recent Columbia Journalism Review profile of Faraone, his approach to covering Occupy was wholly unique, as he became "a one-man swarm: embedding full-time at Boston's Dewey Square encampment; visiting other movements around the country; juggling feature stories, blog posts, radio spots, and Twitter fights." 99 Nights with the 99 Percent is a collection of Faraone's published posts and articles on Occupy, streamlined into a sleek edition that also packs unpublished pieces and a number of bonus features. In addition to pics and illustrations, a series of haiku poems - or "Occupaikus" - run throughout the book, taking readers through a timeline of the first 100 days of the national movement. There are other books on Occupy, but 99 Nights is in a category of its own.
Download or read book Revolution written by Russell Brand and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER We all know the system isn’t working. Our governments are corrupt and the opposing parties pointlessly similar. Our culture is filled with vacuity and pap, and we are told there’s nothing we can do: “It’s just the way things are.” In this book, Russell Brand hilariously lacerates the straw men and paper tigers of our conformist times and presents, with the help of experts as diverse as Thomas Piketty and George Orwell, a vision for a fairer, sexier society that’s fun and inclusive. You have been lied to, told there’s no alternative, no choice, and that you don’t deserve any better. Brand destroys this illusory facade as amusingly and deftly as he annihilates Morning Joe anchors, Fox News fascists, and BBC stalwarts. This book makes revolution not only possible but inevitable and fun.

But we can't wait twenty, thirty, or fifty years. Bill Richardson launched his campaign for the presidency to remind the American people--and their representatives in Washington--that we know how to get things done. We need to end our dependence on oil, and we need to do it yesterday. This isn't something that's going to happen only in Washington, or Detroit, or even Hollywood or Tokyo. It's going to take all of us, a united United States. We have the opportunity, perhaps for only a few years, to make dramatic but beneficial changes in the way we run America. As Leading by Example makes clear, if we succeed, with strong presidential leadership and the support of the American people, we will restore America's role in the world--a source of moral leadership, a source of astonishing technology, and a source of optimism to be admired.

Book Synopsis Revolutionary Guerrilla Warfare by : Sam C. Sarkesian
Download or read book Revolutionary Guerrilla Warfare written by Sam C. Sarkesian and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Revolution' is a word that causes fear in some, exhilaration in others, and confusion in most. Originally used to describe a restoration, it eventually came to mean a sweeping, sudden attack on an existing order. Human history has borne witness to a variety of national and social revolutions - population revolution, revolution of ideas, technological revolution, and revolution in education. Simultaneously, there has been a proliferation of literature on revolution, armed struggle, and violence aimed at unseating policies and leadership of governments and societies.Revolutionary struggles are more than simply armed internal conflict; they involve the essence of the political system. The desire to make such phenomena understandable often leads to oversimplification. Attempts to encompass their multi-dimensional nature, on the other hand, can become immersed in complexities, ambiguities, and misinterpretations. The perspective of this classic volume, available in paperback for the first time, is that revolution is here to stay. Guerrilla warfare, according to Sarkesian, is a particularly useful strategy for the weak, the frustrated, the alienated, and seekers of power against existing regimes. The collected works in this volume examine the social roots of revolution, development of strategy and tactics, practice in city and countryside, dilemmas of attackers and defenders. The actors and thinkers collected and analyzed here range from leading political analysts, anthropologists, sociologists, historians, and officials as well as practitioners of guerrilla warfare. This core text with primary sources in the area of war, revolution, and insurgence develops an understanding of revolution, traces the growth of guerilla doctrine, and studies the specifics of revolutionary and counterrevolutionary guerilla warfare.
