Book excerpt: Sinister sorcery. Gallows humor. A queer romance so glorious it could be right out of fae legend itself. Master of One is a fantasy unlike any other. Rags the thief has never met a pocket he couldn’t pick, but when he’s captured by a sorcerer with world-ending plans, he realizes even he is in over his head. Forced to use his finely honed skills to nab pieces of an ancient fae relic, Rags is stunned to discover that those “relics” just happen to be people: A distractingly handsome Fae prince, A too-honorable Queensguard deserter, A scrappy daughter of a disgraced noble family, A deceptively sweet-natured prince, A bona fide member of the Resistance, And him. Rags. They may all be captives in the sorcerer’s terrible scheme, but that won’t stop them from fighting back. And, sure, six unexpected allies against one wicked enemy doesn’t make for generous odds, but lucky for him, Rag’s not generous—he’s smart. And he has a plan that just might get them out of this alive. With the heist and intrigue of Six of Crows and the dark fairy tale feel of The Cruel Prince, this young adult fantasy debut will have readers rooting for a pair of reluctant heroes as they take on a world-ending fae prophecy, a malicious royal plot, and, most dangerously of all, their feelings for each other.
Book Synopsis Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood by : John Bergsma
Download or read book Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood written by John Bergsma and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there anything in the New Testament about the need for priests in the Church? Many Protestants would argue no. And if you point out that there is a priesthood in the Old Testament, they are likely to say it was a feature of the Old Covenant that was undone by Christ. How should a Catholic respond? In Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood, biblical scholar John Bergsma convinces readers that Jesus did, in fact, intend for a ministerial priesthood to be a key feature of the New Covenant. Bergsma shows how the priesthood is a major thread holding together the biblical story line—beginning with Adam’s loss of the gift of priesthood in the Fall and the long process of restoring his descendants to a priestly status over the centuries, culminating with Christ. With chapter summaries and discussion questions included, Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood can readily be adapted into a four-part study for personal or small group use.
Book Synopsis Slaves of One Master by : Matthew S. Hopper
Download or read book Slaves of One Master written by Matthew S. Hopper and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2015-08-25 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this wide-ranging history of the African diaspora and slavery in Arabia in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Matthew S. Hopper examines the interconnected themes of enslavement, globalization, and empire and challenges previously held conventions regarding Middle Eastern slavery and British imperialism. Whereas conventional historiography regards the Indian Ocean slave trade as fundamentally different from its Atlantic counterpart, Hopper’s study argues that both systems were influenced by global economic forces. The author goes on to dispute the triumphalist antislavery narrative that attributes the end of the slave trade between East Africa and the Persian Gulf to the efforts of the British Royal Navy, arguing instead that Great Britain allowed the inhuman practice to continue because it was vital to the Gulf economy and therefore vital to British interests in the region. Hopper’s book links the personal stories of enslaved Africans to the impersonal global commodity chains their labor enabled, demonstrating how the growing demand for workers created by a global demand for Persian Gulf products compelled the enslavement of these people and their transportation to eastern Arabia. His provocative and deeply researched history fills a salient gap in the literature on the African diaspora.

Book Synopsis Numeric English New Testament by : Ivan Panin
Download or read book Numeric English New Testament written by Ivan Panin and published by Christian Pentecostal Book. This book was released on 2013-01-07 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Numeric New Testament was originally transcribed by Ivan Panin. He believed he found a mathematical pattern in the Greek texts of the bible that would indicate the documents that were most authentic and correct. Mr. Panin devoted much of his life to proving the inspired Word contained certain watermarks by God to preserve its truth. The Greek texts that contained this pattern were the ones he chose to be most reliable. These Greek texts were then translated into English. Ivan Panin used a literal word for word type translation for this work. When word for word Greek was too fragmented to read, Mr. Panin added additional words to give the sentence structure; marking those words in italics. The literal translating of words gives a new richness and depth into God's word. With scripture renderings like: "And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us," (Jn 1:14); "and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the geenna of fire." (Mt. 5:22); Amen I say to unto you that this race shall not pass away, till all be accomplished. (Lk. 21:32). Reading the Word from this translation will give new perspective of Scripture and is certainly worth adding to any collection of quality bible translations currently available. This edition has been reformatted with easy navigation in mind.

Book excerpt: We were created by an infinitely creative God to reflect his love and character to the world. One way we do that is by continuing his creative work. In this energizing book, serial entrepreneur and bestselling author Jordan Raynor helps artists, entrepreneurs, writers, and other creatives reimagine our work as service to God and others, addressing such penetrating questions as - Is my work as a creative really as God-honoring as that of a pastor or missionary? - What does it look like to create not to make a name for myself but to glorify God and serve others? - How can I use my work to fulfill Jesus's command to create disciples? - Will what I make today matter in eternity? To answer these questions, Raynor shares compelling stories from an eclectic group of 40+ Christian entrepreneurs, including the founders of TOMS Shoes, Charity: Water, Chick-fil-A, In-N-Out Burger, Guinness, HTC, and Sevenly, as well as nontraditional entrepreneurs such as C. S. Lewis, Johann Sebastian Bach, and J. R. R. Tolkien. Raynor's "show" rather than "tell," story-driven style makes you feel as if you are sitting at the feet of some of the godliest and most successful entrepreneurs of all time. Perfectly poised to reach today's growing creative class, this unique work restores God's position as the first entrepreneur, helping readers see the eternal value in the work they do today.
