Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once Upon a Time (Bomb) is a charming memoir of a young boy growing up in El Salvador. It tells the story of Alfonso Duque the Thirteenth, a youngster from a poverty-stricken family and a budding poet. Surrounded by hovering women-his mother, aunts, grandmothers, and sisters-little Alfonso still manages to enjoy boyish pranks and endure scraped elbows, knees, and ego while also discovering the pleasures of reading. The womenfolk laughingly describe him on his 'throne' atop the trees or back in the outhouse, where he often escapes to read. This work of innocence is set against a darker backdrop of the growing violence in the Salvadoran countryside and the news coming from the fronts of the Second World War. Argueta incorporates many of the best-loved local folktales into the narrative, the Siguanaba, Chinchintora the Snake, Theodora the Coyote, some of them personalized or hilariously adapted by the women to fit their own circumstances. In the book, the author works through memory, re-encounters a nostalgic past, re-creates paradise, and re-acquaints himself with his poetic roots after years of exile from poetry, his homeland, and the luxury of dreaming.

Book excerpt: Not quite four months after the Western Region's election of October 10, 1965, did the localized mayhem in that Region find its way furiously into the center of the nation on January 15, 1966! It was like a whirl-wind of nothing but anarchy and lawlessness. The serious aftermath of the marred and rigged election was that it acted as the last straw that broke the Carmel's back, providing immediate reason for the army to overthrow the government of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. Anarchy ensued; a counter coup led to the death of Major-General Ironsi. Callous barbarous massacre of thousands of easterners in the North followed. With their lives in jeopardy, easterners fled for safety to eastern region; refugee crisis followed. To guarantee their safety, easterners seceded from Nigeria and on May 30th 1967, formed an independent and sovereign nation of the Republic of Biafra. Determined to bring Easterners back, on July 6, 1967 Nigeria invaded Biafra; waged a gruesome thirty-month-civil war against Biafra. Nigeria blockaded Biafra on land, sea and air, to prevent food from entering Biafra. A malnutrition disease, Kwashiorkor that caused the deaths of thousands of Biafrans, followed. Nigeria bombed Biafran civilians, killing thousands. On January 12, 1970 the war ended leaving more than three million people dead in a war that was totally avoidable!

This book was released on 2023-04-20 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Jersey guy named Bruce captures the real New Jersey with music and lyrics. Some guy from Paterson, New Jersey named Paul captures the real New Jersey in books, stories, and words! Here it is! The original, cult classic that began a nostalgic revolution and first introduced the characters of Harry M. Redmond Jr. and his faithful friend, Paul John Henson to the world. The Time Bomb in The Cupboard, and Other Adventures of Harry and Paul is the first book in the adventure series and it is a compilation of three stories, which detail the special friendship of two boyhood friends growing up in the 1970s in and around Paterson in northern New Jersey. In the year 2009, the author took a part-time job writing music reviews for a progressive rock website, and that gig caused the writing bug to bite the author once more. He recalled old stories, written when he was only sixteen years of age and submitted by a high school teacher to a publication for young writers and to the author’s astonishment, they were published and he received a royalty check for fifty dollars! After some digging around in a dusty box, the author found the original manuscripts, and he dusted them off. Those stories became the nucleus for the anthology now known as The Time Bomb in The Cupboard and Other Adventures of Harry and Paul. This book contains the original versions of the three classic stories, with minimum editing and processing in order to capture the genuine spirit and authentic style of how the author wrote them originally. The Time Bomb in The Cupboard is a story nestled within the Christmas season. When the fun-loving and jovial Ronnie “Ronzo” Boatmann concocts an extra powerful version of his famous holiday moonshine and the Redmond family, friends, and the old neighborhood assault Christmas Tree Mountain for their yearly “cutting down the Christmas tree” adventure, then the fun begins. During the quest for perfect Christmas trees, Ronzo uncorks his volatile mixture and the old neighborhood might never be the same! Harry’s Resort perfectly captures the essence of the old neighborhood and the amazing variety of people and personalities that live in old American urban cities. When the legendary Mr. Redmond replaces his old aboveground swimming pool in his city lot backyard, the decision creates a resort haven within the gritty urban neighborhood. What happens to the new pool becomes a hilarious romp through a very special time with some very special people. The Eye of the Tiger is authentic storytelling. When the bombastic, woman-crazy, teenage Harry M. Redmond Junior is caught two-timing his steady girlfriend, Harry whips up a wild plan to win her love back. He sucks his conservative best friend Paul John Henson into the mix and into the plans, as Harry enters a roller-skating marathon to raise money for charity and to impress his true love. What begins as a plan to regain her love slowly evolves into something very special, and what happens next is emotional, profound, and truly unforgettable.

The book overflows with nostalgic views back into time, spoofs that poke fun at the 1970s, as well as New Jersey life. The stories depict not only hilarious, unusual and outlandish situations, but the stories and characters will warm your heart and touch your soul. Grab your copy today!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From your baby's perspective, choosing the right nanny is probably the most important decision a parent can ever make: this book is about making the best possible choice. Coming home to an abused, badly injured, or even deceased child is a parent's most horrific, unimaginable scenario. And yet it happens: In 2012, two small children died while in the care of a nanny. The Nanny Time Bomb is the most accurate and comprehensive analysis of the current crisis in child care, offering case studies and practical advice to help parents make the most educated, well-informed decision when choosing a nanny for their child. The book takes the reader through various types of nannies—from graduates to undocumented workers—thus allowing parents to see how the industry has evolved far past schoolgirl babysitters. Setting itself apart, Jacalyn S. Burke's exploration of the different types of nannies offers a new perspective on child care not only for parents but also for those interested in larger sociological trends. This book gives a voice to the often-unheard grievances of nannies, showing why they may snap; explaining how to prevent tragedies; and describing how parenting has evolved. The author's examination of current cultural and social trends will be useful for a wide readership beyond parents.

Book excerpt: This book approaches to the subject of common-sense reasoning in AI using epistemic situation calculus which integrates the ideas of situation calculus and epistemic logic. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the research area of science and engineering for intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is very important to deal with common-sense reasoning in knowledge-based systems. If we employ a logic-based framework, classical logic is not suited for the purpose of describing common-sense reasoning. It is well known that there are several difficulties with logic-based approaches, e.g., the so-called Fame Problem. We try to formalize common-sense reasoning in the context of granular computing based on rough set theory. The book is intended for those, like experts and students, who wish to get involved in the field as a monograph or a textbook for the subject. We assume that the reader has mastered the material ordinarily covered in AI and mathematical logic

My feet had a mind of their own as they led me to wander through the flowers. I nonchalantly dragged my hands over the flowers. It was a beautiful and serene sight. I deeply inhaled the sweet scent of the flower and gave a little shudder of bliss. I closed my eyes and just absorbed the moment wanting to remember it. Suddenly the sounds of paws hitting the forest floor overwhelmed me. Then the forest was ignited with flames. Everything glowed vibrant oranges and reds as heavy smoke smothered me from above. I threw myself to the ground desperate for any trace of clean air. As I attempted to crawl out of the flowers a new sound harmonized with the thunder paws, screams and howls for help terrorized me. I clawed at the ground desperate to escape the menacing choir. Fire licked my skin and I screamed for help. Sobs escaped my lips as flaming branches fell on me from above. The smell of burning flesh was the only thing that consumed me as everything went dark.

Do not miss this beautifully realized debut!"--- JT Ellison, New York Times bestselling author of Her Dark Lies on The Orphan Witch. A deeper magic. A stronger curse. A family lost...and found. Persephone May has been alone her entire life. Abandoned as an infant and dragged through the foster care system, she wants nothing more than to belong somewhere. To someone. However, Persephone is as strange as she is lonely. Unexplainable things happen when she’s around—changes in weather, inanimate objects taking flight—and those who seek to bring her into their family quickly cast her out. To cope, she never gets attached, never makes friends. And she certainly never dates. Working odd jobs and always keeping her suitcases half-packed, Persephone is used to moving around, leaving one town for another when curiosity over her eccentric behavior inevitably draws unwanted attention. After an accidental and very public display of power, Persephone knows it’s time to move on once again. It’s lucky, then, when she receives an email from the one friend she’s managed to keep, inviting her to the elusive Wile Isle. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. However, upon arrival, Persephone quickly discovers that Wile is no ordinary island. In fact, it just might hold the very things she’s been searching for her entire life. Answers. Family. Home. And some things she did not want. Like 100-year-old curses and an even older family feud. With the clock running out, love might be the magic that saves them all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The War Against the Terror Masters is a must-read guide to the terrorist crisis. Michael A. Ledeen explains in startling detail how and why the United States was so unprepared for the September 11th catastrophe; the nature of the terror network we are fighting--including the state sponsors of that network; the role of radical Islam; and the enemy collaboration of some of our traditional Middle Eastern "allies";--and, most convincingly, what we must do to win the war. The War Against the Terror Masters examines the two sides of the war: the rise of the international terror network, and the past and current efforts of our intelligence services to destroy the terror masters in the U.S. and overseas. Ledeen's new book also visits every country in the Near East and describes the terrorist cancers in each. Among many revelations that will attract wide attention: *How the terror network survived the loss of its main sponsor, the Soviet Union. *How the FBI learned from a KGB defector--twenty years before Osama's bin Laden's murderous assault--of the existance of Arab terrorist sleeper networks inside the United States. *How moralistic guidelines straight-jacketed the FBI from even collecting a file of newspaper clippings on known terror groups operating in America. *How the internal culture of the CIA, and severe limitations on its ability to operate, blinded us to the growth of terror networks. And much more.

It hits hard at just how simple it is to be poisoned from the vapors from mercury and mercury amalgam exposures and yet just how difficult it is to achieve understanding from anyone in either the health care industry or society in general. Dr. Scheckner is able to take the reader on a journey of just how simple it is for mercury to slowly and silently destroy someone’s life. People are being hurt, not only from the damaging effects of mercury on one’s health, but also from the battle that it takes to achieve acceptance and recognition that mercury poisoning is a disease. This is a compelling story that all too many people in our profession of dentistry and patients who have been treated with mercury amalgam have faced and, because of a societal lack of understanding, will continue to face, unless we start to wake up and stop using this insidious and pernicious agent. Time Bomb from Within: Mercury Poisoning in Dentistry is a simple but heart-wrenching read for every dental health care professional and anyone who has, or has ever had, a mercury amalgam filling.” —Dr. Nestor B Shapka, BSc, DDS, IAOMT; president of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology
