Download or read book Analytical Pyrolysis of Natural Organic Polymers written by S.C. Moldoveanu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-11-11 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical pyrolysis is one of the many tools utilized for the study of natural organic polymers. This books describes in three parts the methodology of analytical pyrolysis, the results of pyrolysis for a variety of biopolymers, and several practical applications of analytical pyrolysis on natural organic polymers and their composite materials. Analytical pyrolysis methodology covers two distinct subjects, the instrumentation used for pyrolysis and the analytical methods that are applied for the analysis of the pyrolysis products. A variety of pyrolytic techniques and of analytical instruments commonly coupled with pyrolysis devices are given. The description of the results of pyrolysis for biopolymers and some chemically modified natural organic polymers is the core of the book. The main pyrolysis products of numerous compounds as well as the proposed mechanisms for their pyrolysis are described. In this part an attempt is made to present as much as possible the chemistry of the pyrolytic process of natural organic polymers. The applications of analytical pyrolysis include topics such as polymer detection used for example in forensic science, structure elucidation of specific polymers, and identification of small molecules present in polymers (anti-oxidants, plasticizers, etc.). Also, the degradation during heating is a subject of major interest in many practical applications regarding the physical properties of polymers. The applications to composite polymeric materials are in the fields of classification of microorganisms, study of a variety of biological samples, study of fossil materials, etc. Analytical pyrolysis can also be used for obtaining information on the burning area generate pyrolysates that have complex compositions. Their analysis is important in connection with health issues, environmental problems, and taste of food and cigarettes.Features of this book:• Presents analytical pyrolysis as a uniform subject and not as a conglomerate of scientific papers.• Puts together in an organized manner a large volume of available information in this specific field.• Provides original results which address subjects with relatively scarce information in literature.• Gives original views on subjects such as the parallel between the pyrolytic process and the ion fragmentation in mass spectrometry.• Includes the role of pyrolysis in the burning process. The three parts of the book are covered in 18 chapters, each divided into sections. Some sections are further divided by particular subjects. References are given for each chapter, and an effort has been made to include as much as possible from the available representative information. A few unpublished personal results are also included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stable usage of rubber compounds in the production of components for almost every industry has created the need for this handbook and formulary. Convenience is the primary reason for such a book. With the variety of uses for rubber being as broad as the imagination, a formulary which includes an overview of the history of rubber, as well as sections on ingredients, processing methods, and testing, is a welcome addition to any manufacturer's library. Rubber products include seals and gaskets for windows, pressure and vacuum hoses for automotive and aerospace applications, bottle stoppers for medical and pharmaceutical products, center cores for all types of balls, belts for tools and machinery, shock and vibration absorbers for everything from motor mounts to sky scrapers, insulation for blankets, and even large film coatings for roofing applications. Additional industrial and consumer products are being designed out of rubber compounds every day.Whether you are involved with selling raw materials, producing rubber compounds, or designing rubber components and products, Rubber Formulary is the right sourcebook of data for your needs. This first-ever collection of 500 suggested formulas has been provided by raw materials suppliers around the world. Written for both technical and managerial personnel, this collection of formulas and basic texts will also benefit students and other individuals just entering the field.
Book Synopsis Literature Survey on Thermal Degradation, Thermal Oxidation, and Thermal Analysis of High Polymers by : David W. Levi
Download or read book Literature Survey on Thermal Degradation, Thermal Oxidation, and Thermal Analysis of High Polymers written by David W. Levi and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bibliography of reference resulting from a literature survey on thermal degradation, thermal oxidation, and thermal analysis of high polymers is presented. Typical materials included are: polystyrene, polyethylene, polybenzyls, polyphenyls, polyxylenes, hydrocarbon polymers, halogen substituted polymers, polymers containing acid and ester groups, synthetic polymers, and some inorganic and semiorganic systems. The coverage is believed to be extensive within the limits set, although it is not claimed to be completely exhaustive. In particular, the coverage of naturally occurring polymers and materials derived from them includes only certain papers and is not complete. Also not included are the vast array of studies of materials that might be considered as model compounds. However, a moderate representation of these model compounds is given. The bibliography consists of 813 items, many of which are annotated by the author. These are grouped under general and material headings. To further guide the reader among these, there are provided a subject index and and index of authors. (Author).

Book excerpt: This revised and updated Second Edition of the best-selling reference/text is essential reading for students and scientists who seek a thorough and practical introduction to the field of polymer spectroscopy. Eleven chapters cover the fundamental aspects and experimental applications of the primary spectroscopic methods. The advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques for particular polymer systems are also discussed. The goal of the author is not to make the reader an expert in the field, but rather to provide enough information about the different spectroscopic methods that the reader can determine how the available techniques can be used to solve a particular polymer problem. This Second Edition contains new and updated information on techniques in IR and NMR, as well as an all-new chapter on Mass Spectrometry.
Book Synopsis Polymer Stress Reactions by : Antonio Casale
Download or read book Polymer Stress Reactions written by Antonio Casale and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer Stress Reactions, Volume 1: Introduction focuses on the interrelationship between polymer mechanochemistry and the stress-induced polymer reactions. This book discusses each nominal polymer state and describes the parameters and variables that are germane to the mechanically induced reactions in that state. The polymer degradation variables that are generally applicable to mechanochemistry, such as temperature and shear intensity, are also considered. This book consists of five chapters and begins with an overview of mechanochemistry and stress-induced polymer reactions, with particular reference to the distinction between mechanochemical reactions and other modes of reaction. The general regions of viscoelastic behavior for amorphous polymers where mechanochemistry may be conducted are also described. The next chapter explores the mechanisms underlying the modes of reaction in mechanochemistry, focusing on the effects of shear and applied stress as well as how bonds rupture. The discussion then turns to the influence of the principal variables in polymer mechanochemistry; characterization methods for evaluating the fundamentals of mechanochemistry; and methods for the synthesis of block and graft copolymers. This book is a valuable material for those interested in mechanochemistry in general and in polymer stress reactions in particular.
Book Synopsis Long-Term and Accelerated Ageing Tests on Rubbers by : Roger P. Brown
Download or read book Long-Term and Accelerated Ageing Tests on Rubbers written by Roger P. Brown and published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of rubbers are subject to change as a result of ageing, ultimately to the point where the material is no longer capable of fulfilling its function. After a brief introduction to the main environmental and mechanical factors affecting performance, this review focuses on the thermo-oxidative ageing of rubber. It considers the methods of, and the published results from, both natural and accelerated tests. A major section of the report is devoted to exposure and test techniques with discussion of the methods of physical and chemical analysis. An additional indexed section containing several hundred abstracts from the Rapra Polymer Library database gives useful references for further reading.
