Download or read book Superfluidity and Superconductivity written by D.R. Tilley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superfluidity and Superconductivity, Third Edition introduces the low-temperature phenomena of superfluidity and superconductivity from a unified viewpoint. The book stresses the existence of a macroscopic wave function as a central principle, presents an extensive discussion of macroscopic theories, and includes full descriptions of relevant experimental results throughout. This edition also features an additional chapter on high-temperature superconductors. With problems at the end of most chapters as well as the careful elaboration of basic principles, this comprehensive survey of experiment and theory provides an accessible and invaluable foundation for graduate students studying low-temperature physics as well as senior undergraduates taking specialized courses.

Book Synopsis Miniature Sorption Coolers by : Lucio Piccirillo
Download or read book Miniature Sorption Coolers written by Lucio Piccirillo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there have been significant developments in detector technologies in the field of astrophysics, requiring lower temperatures with simple self-contained refrigerators. Temperatures in the range of 1K to 50mK are now achieved by using dedicated closed-cycle miniature sorption coolers. This book presents the theoretical and experimental knowledge necessary to design and build your own miniature refrigerators, including both single shot and continuous 1 K, 300 mK and 100 mK coolers, and details how to write the needed design software. This text will be of interest to students and researchers, already familiar with basic physics and thermodynamics, who want to understand how sorption coolers and miniature dilution refrigerators work. Features: The first book dedicated to miniature sorption coolers Covers the basic thermodynamic concepts needed to understand the behavior of liquid helium-3 and liquid helium-4 Includes an appendix of Python example codes
Book Synopsis Advances in Cryogenic Engineering by : K.D. Timmerhaus
Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K.D. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1987 joint Cryogenic Engineering Conference/International Cryogenic Materials Conference was held at the Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles, lliinois from June 14 to 18. Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, located a few kilometers from Pheasant Run, was the host for this conference. There is a great deal of cryogenic research and development underway at Fermilab and many applications of cryogenic materials and systems are in rou tine, daily use at the Tevatron. The technical program for the joint conference had over 300 invited and contributed papers from many different countries. The CEC board and I have tried to dramatically shorten the publication time of this volume of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. In order to help meet the goal of the February publication, I asked the reviewers to complete their reviews before leaving Pheasant Run, after the conference. I would like to thank all of the reviewers for their prompt and throughtful reviews. I very much appreciate the authors following the prescribed format and responding quickly to my requests for revisions.

Download or read book Helium 4 written by Zygmunt M. Galasiewicz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helium 4 is a collection of materials that examines the various properties of helium 4. The book presents 12 experimental studies and seven theoretical studies. The coverage of the text includes the viscosity of liquid helium below the ?-point; the transfer of helium II on glass; and the determination of the velocity of propagation of the second sound in helium II. The theoretical papers tackle topics such as the theory of superfluidity of helium II; radiation of sound in helium II; and the kinetic coefficients of helium II. The book will be of great interest to chemists, chemical engineers, and other scientists from related fields.

Book Synopsis Helium Cryogenics by : Steven W. Van Sciver
Download or read book Helium Cryogenics written by Steven W. Van Sciver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least 10 years have elapsed since a comprehensive monograph concer ned with the broad subject of cryogenics has been published. During this time a considerable quantity of research and development has been carried out in the field of cryogenics. Furthermore, there has been a certain degree of redirection of effort within the field, mostly driven by the variety of new applications, ranging from superconductive magnet systems to micro electronics. Greater emphasis is now being placed on low-temperature cryogenics, particularly that of liquid helium. Until now cryogenic books have provided a broad survey of materials and fluid properties over the entire cryogenic regime, T ::5 150 K. This approach does not allow sufficient detail in any particular area to bring the reader to the current level of understanding in the subject. In addition, the behavior of helium has been lumped with that of other cryogenic fluids, although the properties of helium are quite unique. As a result, a clear relationship has not been established between the fundamental understanding of helium fluids and their potential applications. The present book has been written to fill this void. The approach is to survey the field of cryogenics, specifically as it pertains to helium fluids. This approach is more specialized than that contained in previous cryogenics books. Furthermore, the level of treatment is more advanced and a certain knowledge of fundamental engineering and physics principles has been assumed.
