Book excerpt: Life just isn't The Love Boat for nearly-thirty Shannon, the tongue-in-cheek heroine of Welcome to My Planet. Credit cards don't pay themselves, no obvious mate has appeared with her name pinned to his collar, and a job doing new-product research for a fledgling software company doesn't quite make ends meet in the meaning-of-life department. Then there's the loser boyfriend, another boyfriend, her therapist, and unforgettably, Shannon's mom, Flo, with her unrecognizable leftover casseroles and quirky advice for her daughter. In a fit of debt and with a bruised heart, Shannon moves back home to witness the day-to-day tremors of her parents' own marriage. This is a dark-and-light tale-freshly witty and poignant-told by a young woman with a universal touch.

Book excerpt: ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A PLANET FAR, FAR AWAY... The planet was called Kateraan. All of its inhabitants were cats- incredibly smart, genius cats! Kateraan was a world of vast scientific achievement. Everyone on this planet was a genius at something. Everyon, except for El Gato, so they thought. And the big discovery in the life of the average Kateraanian was that of determining what he/she was brilliant at. To ease each Kateraanian along the path to discovery of his or her brilliance, huge institutions of higher learning had been established. They contained their computer data banks vast storehouses of all the accumulated knowledge of hundreds of years brilliant work by Kateraanian scientists, historians, mathematicians, sociologists, etc. And, these institutions were staffed by a faculty of the most brilliant minds available to the Kateraanian populace, at large. To be a teacher in Kateraan was an honor bestowed only upon the best and the brightest of an already stellar pool of talent. It was the highest position anybody could achieve in society short of being a world leader. There is no such thing as dance music on planet Kateraan. The Kateraanians believe that any kind of music other than drone sounds or classical music is the work of the Devil, because it promotes hatred, violence, discrimination and domination. Thus, at times, life can be a bit boring, hearing the same old drone sounds and/or classical music over and over again. In brief, El Gato's goal is to prove the Kateraanian's that not all music can be healing voice of the universe. El Gato further believes that non-toxic music promotes self-respect, as well as respect for others. Moreover, good music promotes fun, togetherness and a sense of hope when things aren't going well. The bottom line according to El Gato, "Life ain't fun until the music plays."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dweller on Two Planets is one of the most important texts of the 19th century Atlantis canon. The book was “channeled” to Frederick Spenser Oliver (1866-1899) at his Northern California home near Mount Shasta over a period of three years, beginning when he was seventeen. Oliver claimed not to have written any of the text, asserting that he was merely transmitting what Phylos revealed to him. In fact, professed Oliver, the manuscript was dictated to him out of sequence (much of it backward) so that he could not interfere with the outcome. Phylos was also Walter Pierson, a prospector in northern California during 1863-1866 who is the reincarnated Phylos from Atlantis. As Phylos/Pierson dictated the book to Oliver, Oliver produced the text in a form of automatic writing. The book begins with Phylos’ lives in Atlantis and the wonderful technology that those people had, including electricity and airships. In part two of the book, Phylos reincarnates as Walter Pierson and is taken inside Mount Shasta by a Chinese Master named Quong. During his time inside Mount Shasta Pierson is taken in his astral body to Venus; hence the title of the book. A better title might have been “From Atlantis to Mount Shasta.” While some have called the book brilliant speculative fiction (if somewhat disjointed), believers in reincarnation cannot help but think that there is some sort of reality to this strange book that goes into great detail about antigravity, mass transit, the employment of ‘dark-side’ energy (which today would be called ‘zero point energy’), and devices such as voice-operated typewriters. The cigar-shaped, highly maneuverable Atlantean flying machines, or vailx, have an eerie resemblance to 19th and 20th century UFO reports. Phylos also speaks of personalized heavens, almost like virtual realities, something very compelling.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prophecies, Visions, Occurrences and Dreams is an apocalyptic book. Since 1990, Raymond Aguilera began to receive prophecies, visions and warnings from God about the end of our world as we know it. These messages range from abortion, to the New Age movement, to Pastors who have misled the flock. They reveal things to come, things that now are and things that should not be... From hope, to love, to doom, to a new beginning, herein lies a broad range of insight from a whole new perspective. The prophecies are simple and straight forward, written from a first-hand perspective. They fly in the face of orthodox tradition and are a thorn in the side to everyone who has already made up his mind and heart on how the end is to come and who God is. This has the potential of being one of the most controversial books of the year.

Book excerpt: Ethan Canin is one of America's finest writers. He has been called "brilliant" by the Los Angeles Times, "a tremendous talent" by the Chicago Sun-Times, and "dazzling" by Walker Percy. The bestselling author of The Palace Thief and Emperor of the Air now gives us this stunning new novel, For Kings and Planets. "Years later, Orno Tarcher would think of his days in New York as a seduction. A seduction and a near miss, a time when his memory of the world around him --the shining stone stairwells, the taxicabs, the sea of nighttime lights--was glinting and of heroic proportion. Like a dream." So begins this remarkable novel about the lives of two young men and the women they love. Orno Tarcher arrives in New York City from a small town in Missouri, feeling unsophisticated and disadvantaged by his family's bedrock values. He meets Marshall Emerson, the charismatic gem of a worldly family, a seductive and brilliant New Yorker who is revealed, as time passes, to be bent on destruction. The novel explores with depth and sophistication the conflicts of character at the heart of every life, the desire for grandeur and the lure of normalcy, the tension between rivalry and friendship, fathers and sons, love and betrayal. For Kings and Planets is the story of a man who thinks of himself as moral, who tests his character against power, deception, and seduction. It is also the story of a friendship fractured by love. For Kings and Planets is a remarkable achievement, another fiction classic by the writer who has been called "a worthy successor to...Philip Roth, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Penn Warren."

Book excerpt: The characters and plot of this story are fictitious , and although some are derived from mythical, historical, symbolic and religious means, the story itself is fictitious. As such, the story is not intended to be taken seriously, judgmentally, nor religiously; but absorbed and discarded playfully with an open mind. Take in what you need; take what you feel, discard the rest. In no way does this book claim to know the right way to grow, because everyone must walk their own path, everyone must find their own centerpoint of view . This story comes from one perspective, one eye, one voice, one soul expressing various elements of human emotion, expression and opinion. This is a story, with a plot I believe to be of central proportions. It is up to you to find connections to your own Archetype. May you always Love your Creator and aim to shine bright like the greatest role model in the universe. Within creative bright light*Shines great insight. Aim to be the Author and Master your own world. *Everyone, every soul has a character, a story that can and does change the World. Ask yourself, who is your character?

Book excerpt: The planets fascinate us, and naturally we care about our own Earth, and things like how well we can forecast the weather and whether climate is really changing. Exploring the Planets offers a personal account on how the space programme evolved. It begins in the era of the first blurry views of our Earth as seen from space, and ends with current plans for sophisticated robots on places as near as our neighbours Venus and Mars and as far away as the rainy lakelands of Saturn's planet-sized moon Titan. Examining the scientific goals of these complex voyages of discovery, and the joys and hardships of working to achieve them. The Space Age is now about 50 years old and for those lucky enough to be part of it at its inception, it's filled a worklong lifetime. Today, several satellites around the Earth have studied the atmosphere and the climate using instruments on board that the author helped design and build. 'Deep space' missions were embarked upon to visit the planets: all of the major bodies (six planets, the Moon and minor bodies, asteroids and comets) of the classical Solar System have been scrutinised close-up by experiments built in various laboratories worldwide. Most of the narrative is based on the author's experiences at the world's space agencies, research labs, and conferences, and at other places as diverse as Cape Canaveral and No. 10 Downing Street.

Slowik, tells of an age of lost hope among men and of hostility and unkindness in the World at large today. Also, how the World is filled with those who act with hate and treachery, showing little regard for their fellow man. The Lord did not envision such a World; peace through prayer is needed to bring forth justice and triumph for all. For the last twenty years, Halina has been journaling with the Lord. He prompted the writing of this book, and several others on the Truth of His Ways, through interior locution, narrating to her and describing His hopes and dreams for a World of peace for mankind. Through her, He communicates: it is time to understand the importance of turning to the Lord in love and prayer to bring forth kindness and peace, to make the World a better place.

Book excerpt: From my point of view as the author, I would like for my readers to grasp the understanding that there is a Creator, call It by whatever title you like, and that everything in our world and the universes, is that It's all about change. So when change does come into your life, accept it without fear and simply deal with it as it comes along. We, humans, can make change a wonderful part of our lives, without the anxiety coming in and controlling our lives. So, this is a story of our fears, or wants, change, knowing Creator does exist, as do other Beings which, are aware of all the above said, and know their duties to Creator and humanity, and all of life that may exist that we are still unawara of, as yet. I would also like for my readers to know that we, the peoples have all the powers to manifest whatever we desire in our lives and our world - Earth! But first, we have to accept that the possibility exists, and then we have to work on that aspect to manifest whatever we want in our individual life! There is at the least, one major rule in all of exsistence, though: Love is the strongest denominator which exists, and that is what we, the peoples, must focus on becomming - Beings of love, which means, "do onto others better than we desire for our individual selfs!" This is a fantasy story of truth and fantasy mixed together to elicit what Creator desired me to evok in all humanity. This must be read from begginning to the end to to not miss some important part of the story. Enjoy, and make the changes that you know need be made for your life and those around you to become better than could be hoped. Aloha!

Book excerpt: Building from his acclaimed anthology Tales of Two Americas, beloved writer and editor John Freeman draws together a group of our greatest writers from around the world to help us see how the environmental crisis is hitting some of the most vulnerable communities where they live. In the past five years, John Freeman, previously editor of Granta, has launched a celebrated international literary magazine, Freeman's, and compiled two acclaimed anthologies that deal with income inequality as it is experienced. In the course of this work, one major theme came up repeatedly: Climate change is making already dire inequalities much worse, devastating further the already devastated. But the problems of climate change are not restricted to those from the less developed world. Galvanized by his conversations with writers and activists around the world, Freeman engaged with some of today's most eloquent storytellers, many of whom hail from the places under the most acute stress--from the capital of Burundi to Bangkok, Thailand. The response has been extraordinary. Margaret Atwood conjures with a dys¬topian future in a remarkable poem. Lauren Groff whisks us to Florida; Edwidge Danticat to Haiti; Tahmima Anam to Bangladesh; Yasmine El Rashidi to Egypt, while Eka Kurniawan brings us to Indonesia, Chinelo Okparanta to Nigeria, and Anuradha Roy to the Himalayas in the wake of floods, dam building, and drought. This is a literary all-points bulletin of fiction, essays, poems, and reportage about the most important crisis of our times.
