Book Synopsis On Artin's Conjecture for Odd 2-dimensional Representations by : Gerhard Frey
Download or read book On Artin's Conjecture for Odd 2-dimensional Representations written by Gerhard Frey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main topic of the volume is to develop efficient algorithms by which one can verify Artin's conjecture for odd two-dimensional representations in a fairly wide range. To do this, one has to determine the number of all representations with given Artin conductor and determinant and to compute the dimension of a corresponding space of cusp forms of weight 1 which is done by exploiting the explicit knowledge of the operation of Hecke operators on modular symbols. It is hoped that the algorithms developed in the volume can be of use for many other problems related to modular forms.

This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an outgrowth of the research project "The Inverse Ga lois Problem and its Application to Number Theory" which was carried out in three academic years from 1999 to 2001 with the support of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) (1) No. 11440013. In September, 2001, an international conference "Galois Theory and Modular Forms" was held at Tokyo Metropolitan University after some preparatory work shops and symposia in previous years. The title of this book came from that of the conference, and the authors were participants of those meet All of the articles here were critically refereed by experts. Some of ings. these articles give well prepared surveys on branches of research areas, and many articles aim to bear the latest research results accompanied with carefully written expository introductions. When we started our re~earch project, we picked up three areas to investigate under the key word "Galois groups"; namely, "generic poly nomials" to be applied to number theory, "Galois coverings of algebraic curves" to study new type of representations of absolute Galois groups, and explicitly described "Shimura varieties" to understand well the Ga lois structures of some interesting polynomials including Brumer's sextic for the alternating group of degree 5. The topics of the articles in this volume are widely spread as a result. At a first glance, some readers may think this book somewhat unfocussed.

Book Synopsis The Minnesota Notes on Jordan Algebras and Their Applications by : Max Koecher
Download or read book The Minnesota Notes on Jordan Algebras and Their Applications written by Max Koecher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-09-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a re-edition of Max Koecher's famous Minnesota Notes. The main objects are homogeneous, but not necessarily convex, cones. They are described in terms of Jordan algebras. The central point is a correspondence between semisimple real Jordan algebras and so-called omega-domains. This leads to a construction of half-spaces which give an essential part of all bounded symmetric domains. The theory is presented in a concise manner, with only elementary prerequisites. The editors have added notes on each chapter containing an account of the relevant developments of the theory since these notes were first written.

The articles also explore examples important for future research. Specific topics include● algebraic varieties over finite fields● the Chabauty-Coleman method● modular forms● rational points on curves of small genus● S-unit equations and integral points.
Book Synopsis Loeb Measures in Practice: Recent Advances by : Nigel J. Cutland
Download or read book Loeb Measures in Practice: Recent Advances written by Nigel J. Cutland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-10-11 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This expanded version of the 1997 European Mathematical Society Lectures given by the author in Helsinki, begins with a self-contained introduction to nonstandard analysis (NSA) and the construction of Loeb Measures, which are rich measures discovered in 1975 by Peter Loeb, using techniques from NSA. Subsequent chapters sketch a range of recent applications of Loeb measures due to the author and his collaborators, in such diverse fields as (stochastic) fluid mechanics, stochastic calculus of variations ("Malliavin" calculus) and the mathematical finance theory. The exposition is designed for a general audience, and no previous knowledge of either NSA or the various fields of applications is assumed.
Book Synopsis Automorphic Forms and L-Functions for the Group GL(n,R) by : Dorian Goldfeld
Download or read book Automorphic Forms and L-Functions for the Group GL(n,R) written by Dorian Goldfeld and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-08-03 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L-functions associated to automorphic forms encode all classical number theoretic information. They are akin to elementary particles in physics. This book provides an entirely self-contained introduction to the theory of L-functions in a style accessible to graduate students with a basic knowledge of classical analysis, complex variable theory, and algebra. Also within the volume are many new results not yet found in the literature. The exposition provides complete detailed proofs of results in an easy-to-read format using many examples and without the need to know and remember many complex definitions. The main themes of the book are first worked out for GL(2,R) and GL(3,R), and then for the general case of GL(n,R). In an appendix to the book, a set of Mathematica functions is presented, designed to allow the reader to explore the theory from a computational point of view.
Book Synopsis Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis by : V.D. Milman
Download or read book Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis written by V.D. Milman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-09 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of original research papers from the Israeli GAFA seminar during the years 1996-2000 not only reports on more traditional directions of Geometric Functional Analysis, but also reflects on some of the recent new trends in Banach Space Theory and related topics. These include the tighter connection with convexity and the resulting added emphasis on convex bodies that are not necessarily centrally symmetric, and the treatment of bodies which have only very weak convex-like structure. Another topic represented here is the use of new probabilistic tools; in particular transportation of measure methods and new inequalities emerging from Poincaré-like inequalities.

Book Synopsis Variational Methods for Problems from Plasticity Theory and for Generalized Newtonian Fluids by : Martin Fuchs
Download or read book Variational Methods for Problems from Plasticity Theory and for Generalized Newtonian Fluids written by Martin Fuchs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-12-12 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variational methods are applied to prove the existence of weak solutions for boundary value problems from the deformation theory of plasticity as well as for the slow, steady state flow of generalized Newtonian fluids including the Bingham and Prandtl-Eyring model. For perfect plasticity the role of the stress tensor is emphasized by studying the dual variational problem in appropriate function spaces. The main results describe the analytic properties of weak solutions, e.g. differentiability of velocity fields and continuity of stresses. The monograph addresses researchers and graduate students interested in applications of variational and PDE methods in the mechanics of solids and fluids.

Book Synopsis Quantum Probability for Probabilists by : Paul A. Meyer
Download or read book Quantum Probability for Probabilists written by Paul A. Meyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-11-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the classical theory of stochastic integration and stochastic differential equations has been extended to a non-commutative set-up to develop models for quantum noises. The author, a specialist of classical stochastic calculus and martingale theory, tries to provide an introduction to this rapidly expanding field in a way which should be accessible to probabilists familiar with the Ito integral. It can also, on the other hand, provide a means of access to the methods of stochastic calculus for physicists familiar with Fock space analysis. For this second edition, the author has added about 30 pages of new material, mostly on quantum stochastic integrals.
