This book was released on 1988 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper deals with the problem of selecting the best population among k populations belonging to the same class of exponential family distributions through sequential subset selection approach. We desire that the best population should be selected and each selected population should be good. Based on the modified likelihood ratio of the conditional frequency function of some statistics, an elimination-type sequential subset selection procedure is proposed. This sequential procedure achieves the selection goal with guaranteed probability at least P* for some prespecified value P*. At each stage, this procedure also provides some statistical inference about an upper bound on the measure of separation from the unknown best population of each remaining contending population. Finally, a modified sequential procedure to select a good population is also studied. This modified sequential procedure achieves the goal of selecting a good population with guaranteed at least P*. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper deals with the problem of selecting the best population through the sequential selection approach. Based on the modified likelihood ratio of the probability density function of some invariant sufficient statistics, a sequential subset selection procedure is proposed. When the procedure terminates, one can assert with a guaranteed probability P, that the best population is included in the selected subset and that each selected population is within some fixed distance from the best population. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exponential distribution is one of the most significant and widely used distribution in statistical practice. It possesses several important statistical properties, and yet exhibits great mathematical tractability. This volume provides a systematic and comprehensive synthesis of the diverse literature on the theory and applications of the exponential distribution. Discussions include exponential regression, models and applications of mixtures, and applications to survival analysis.

Book Synopsis Statistical Decision Theory by : F. Liese
Download or read book Statistical Decision Theory written by F. Liese and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-30 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For advanced graduate students, this book is a one-stop shop that presents the main ideas of decision theory in an organized, balanced, and mathematically rigorous manner, while observing statistical relevance. All of the major topics are introduced at an elementary level, then developed incrementally to higher levels. The book is self-contained as it provides full proofs, worked-out examples, and problems. The authors present a rigorous account of the concepts and a broad treatment of the major results of classical finite sample size decision theory and modern asymptotic decision theory. With its broad coverage of decision theory, this book fills the gap between standard graduate texts in mathematical statistics and advanced monographs on modern asymptotic theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this comprehensive guide you will learn how to apply Bayesian machine learning techniques systematically to solve various problems in speech and language processing. A range of statistical models is detailed, from hidden Markov models to Gaussian mixture models, n-gram models and latent topic models, along with applications including automatic speech recognition, speaker verification, and information retrieval. Approximate Bayesian inferences based on MAP, Evidence, Asymptotic, VB, and MCMC approximations are provided as well as full derivations of calculations, useful notations, formulas, and rules. The authors address the difficulties of straightforward applications and provide detailed examples and case studies to demonstrate how you can successfully use practical Bayesian inference methods to improve the performance of information systems. This is an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and industry practitioners working in machine learning, signal processing, and speech and language processing.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shanti S. Gupta has made pioneering contributions to ranking and selection theory; in particular, to subset selection theory. His list of publications and the numerous citations his publications have received over the last forty years will amply testify to this fact. Besides ranking and selection, his interests include order statistics and reliability theory. The first editor's association with Shanti Gupta goes back to 1965 when he came to Purdue to do his Ph.D. He has the good fortune of being a student, a colleague and a long-standing collaborator of Shanti Gupta. The second editor's association with Shanti Gupta began in 1978 when he started his research in the area of order statistics. During the past twenty years, he has collaborated with Shanti Gupta on several publications. We both feel that our lives have been enriched by our association with him. He has indeed been a friend, philosopher and guide to us.
Book Synopsis On Selection Procedures for Exponential Family Distributions Based on Type-I Censored Data by :
Download or read book On Selection Procedures for Exponential Family Distributions Based on Type-I Censored Data written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the problem of selecting the best population from exponential family distributions based on type-I censored data. A Bayes rule is derived and a monotone property of the Bayes selection rule is obtained. Following that property, we propose an early selection rule. Through this early selection rule, one can terminate the experiment on a few populations early and possibly make the final decision before the censoring time. An example is provided in the final part to illustrate the use of the early selection rule for Weibull populations.
