Book Synopsis Energy-Water Nexus by : Mark Gaffigan
Download or read book Energy-Water Nexus written by Mark Gaffigan and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil shale deposits in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming are estimated to contain up to 3 trillion barrels of oil -- or an amount equal to the world's proven oil reserves. About 72% of this oil shale is located beneath federal lands. Extracting this oil is expected to require substantial amounts of water and could impact groundwater and surface water. This report examined: (1) what is known about the potential impacts of oil shale development (OSD) on surface water and groundwater; (2) what is known about the amount of water that may be needed for OSD; (3) the extent to which water will likely be available for OSD and its source; and (4) federal research efforts to address impacts to water resources from OSD. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand report.

Book Synopsis The Fossil Fuel Revolution by : Daniel J. Soeder
Download or read book The Fossil Fuel Revolution written by Daniel J. Soeder and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fossil Fuel Revolution: Shale Gas and Tight Oil describes the remarkable new energy resources being obtained from shale gas and tight oil through a combination of directional drilling and staged hydraulic fracturing, opening up substantial new energy reserves for the 21st Century. The book includes the history of shale gas development, the technology used to economically recover hydrocarbons, and descriptions of the ten primary shale gas resources of the United States. International shale resources, environmental concerns, and policy issues are also addressed. This book is intended as a reference on shale gas and tight oil for industry members, undergraduate and graduate students, engineers and geoscientists. Provides a cross-cutting view of shale gas and tight oil in the context of geology, petroleum engineering, and the practical aspects of production Includes a comprehensive description of productive and prospective shales in one book, allowing readers to compare and contrast production from different shale plays Addresses environmental and policy issues and compares alternative energy resources in terms of economics and sustainability Features an extensive resource list of peer-reviewed references, websites, and journals provided at the end of each chapter

Book Synopsis A Summary of Oil Shale Activities at the National Bureau of Standards, 1975-1979 by : Lottie T. McClendon
Download or read book A Summary of Oil Shale Activities at the National Bureau of Standards, 1975-1979 written by Lottie T. McClendon and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a summary of NBS Oil Shale activities covering the period 1975 to 1979. At the start of this period a Workshop on Standard Reference Materials (SRM's) needed for Oil Shale Processing was held at NBS and served to provide the priority guidance for the future of this program. A summary of the recommendations of that Workshop, the manuscripts presented during the Workshop, and the list of attendees is included in this report. The status of the Oil Shale Research at NBS is also presented consisting of developmental work on the feasibility of producing an Oil Shale and a Shale Oil Standard Reference Materials characterized for both trace inorganic and trace organic constituents. Additionally, information is given dealing with the development of measurement methods appropriate for Oil Shale and Shale Oil trace inorganic and trace organic analysis. Several papers are also included giving additional details on these matters. Other NBS Standard Reference Materials, which may be appropriate for the use by the Oil Shale community, are described briefly within this document. Finally, recommendations for future Oil Shale projects dealing with the development of measurement methods and Standard Reference Materials at NBS are presented.
