Over wells have been drilled for gas or Oil within its boundaries. SO far as known these are shown on the accompanying map Of the county (pl. I, in pocket). Gas and Oil wells and dry holes are represented by appropriate symbols. The map is complete to December, 1905, when the field was last visited. Other wells have been drilled since then, and it is probable that a few dry holes have been mist. While the derrick or rig remains standing or after the rig is blown down and only the bull wheels remain a well can hardly fail to be found, but when not even the conductor box is left the former existence of a well may escape notice. The Object Of this report is to assemble the present knowledge of the occurrence of gas and Oil in this county, including a large amount Of unpublished data, and to. Present it in a convenient form for the use Of those who are interested or engaged in the Oil and gas business. The report describes 1) the rocks from the surface to the bottom Of the deepest well; (2) the geologic structure, with a contour map of the Pittsburg coal; (3) the oil and gas sands; (4) the Oil and gas fields, with suggestions for their further development.
