Download or read book Oh No, Not Me! written by Joseph W. Lintzenich and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-03 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1992, at the age of 55, Mr. Lintzenich was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This book is his personal story, told in laymen's terms, spanning over seven years. The step-by-step journey (looking at both the serious and humorous sides of this ordeal) candidly tells about the fears, confusion, and expectations as his life was impacted by prostate cancer. It begins with the shocking diagnosis and examines each step of the process as he learned of the treatment options, and struggled to choose the course of action right for him. The personal and medical information is a compilation of first-hand experience, advice from physicians, literature provided by the hospital, and personal research done after the diagnosis. The book is for those who worry about prostate cancer, for those who must decide on the choices of what to do after a positive diagnosis, for those who fear prostate cancer surgery, and for those who contemplate how their lives will be impacted. Above all it is a book that comforts and is filled with hope for both the patient and their families. Dr. William J. Catalona, renowned prostate cancer research pioneer and surgeon, commented that Joe's perspective offers "hope and encouragement" rather than emphasizing the bad side effects that can occur with prostate cancer surgery...a vivid and often touching detail of one man's encounter with prostate cancer...will be appreciated by patients and their families for its accurate information, its clarity, and the hope and encouragement that it gives.

Book Synopsis The Woods, Lakeboat, Edmond by : David Mamet
Download or read book The Woods, Lakeboat, Edmond written by David Mamet and published by Open Road + Grove/Atlantic. This book was released on 2014-10-03 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three plays from the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award–winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross and American Buffalo. The Woods is a modern dramatic parable about, as Mamet put it, “why men and women have a hard time trying to get along with each other.” The story features a young man and woman spending a night in his family’s cabin where they experience passion, then disillusionment, but are in the end reconciled by mutual need. In Lakeboat, an Ivy League college student takes a summer job as a cook aboard a Great Lakes cargo ship where the crewmembers—men of all ages—share their wild fantasies about sex, gambling, and violence. Mamet also wrote the screenplay to the 2000 film starring Peter Falk and Denis Leary. In Edmond, a white-collar New York City man is set morally adrift after a visit to a fortune-teller. He soon leaves an unfulfilling marriage to find sex, adventure, companionship, and, ultimately, the meaning of his existence. Mamet also wrote the screenplay for the 2005 film starring William H. Macy. “[A] beautifully conceived love story.” —Chicago Daily News on The Woods “[Mamet’s] language has never been so precise, pure, and affecting.” —Richard Eder of The New York Times on The Woods “Richly overheard talk and loopy, funny construction.” —Michael Feingold in The Village Voice on Lakeboat “A riveting theatrical experience that illuminates the heart of darkness.” —Jack Kroll of Newsweek on Edmond

And each newborn child is assigned a Designation Number instead of a name. Now, forty years later, a man known only as 77241 escapes into the past in an effort to discover where the world went wrong. When 77241 comes upon footage of Norma Jeane Baker, known throughout the world as Marilyn Monroe, he becomes haunted by her face, so much so that he seeks out her gravesite and begins speaking to her hologram. As oxygen bombs fall upon the former United States in a final act of destruction, 77241 escapes in a time bubble traveling back to June 1960. Once there, he seeks out Norma Jeane at a movie set. Through her, he attempts to save John F. Kennedy from his all-too-early demise hoping to alter enough of the past to change the world's future destruction. Join 77241 and Norma Jeane as they interact with a cast of historical characters, including Kennedy, Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln, as they seek to change the course of history in Norma Jeane's Wishes in Time.
Book Synopsis Writing Against God by : Joanne Halleran McMullen
Download or read book Writing Against God written by Joanne Halleran McMullen and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers approaching Flannery O'Connor's work without knowledge of her Catholicism may find little evidence of it in her fiction. Yet readers who come to O'Connor's work with a prior awareness of her faith (as evidenced, for example, in her essays and correspondence) believe that her Catholicism suffuses every sentence of her fictional canon. Writing against God explores the difficulty of reconciling O'Connor's private and public insistence on the importance of Catholicism in her work with the fiction her readers encounter on the printed page. O'Connor's linguistic choices often move her fiction out of her control, producing a message in conflict with the one she stated she intended. Through a detailed examination of O'Connor's language in her two novels and in short stories that span her career, McMullen exposes a pervasive spiritual environment often in opposition to the Roman Catholic tenets O'Connor professed. Blending a reader-response approach with linguistic analysis, Writing against God offers explanations for the mysteries surrounding and the mysteries within O'Connor's fiction.

Book Synopsis The Days of Darkness by : Donald J. Richardson
Download or read book The Days of Darkness written by Donald J. Richardson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-03-18 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I began writing The Days of Darkness in 1972. Where the story came from I don’t recall, only that I envisioned a man running for his life. Perhaps there is some connection to the writings of William Faulkner whose works I was studying at the time. At any rate I wrote only a few thousand words before laying the manuscript aside. Over the next few years I added to it, but I think I didn’t have a clear notion of where the story was going or what was to happen. Only after three decades had elapsed did I return to the writing. As I re-read it, I began to formulate a notion of what to do with it and to explore where it might be directed. Gradually I resumed writing and added characters, discovering where it was leading and following some unstated inclination or impetus. Soon it began to take shape, forcing me to deal with the larger issues of North versus South, black versus white, justice versus injustice, and man versus woman. I suppose The Days of Darkness is in some arcane way allegorical. But it isn’t possible for me to explain that or even to explore it; to me it’s just a story I wrote in which I try to say something meaningful. I think that is what all stories try to do.
